Can certainly give it a go, cheers man. Waiting on a physio appointment for over 2 months for my hip lol, it's practically healed by now which is probably what they want . NHS can be a pain at times but at least I don't have to pay

I don't think it's a serious injury, probably just a niggling pain that'll go in a week or two hopefully. Just never had a shoulder problem before so thought I'd get some advice

Hip issues are really tough. I remember not being able to walk right for a month after I deadlifted sumo for a week in 2010. It was pretty bad, lol.

    Best of luck, tho.

Thanks a lot for the reponses guys. I was reading Dr. Israetel's book last night and the chapter on variation was interesting, and like Big Jayzaashajsd wrote, the benefit is to resensitize yourself to the comp lifts when they come back around. He said it's important to do a variation in a given intensity range (i.e hypertrophy or strength) for a while before switching so that you actually get the benefit of that adaptation.

After my meet in July I am going to get away from the comp lifts for a couple cycles and see how that goes. Looking forward to it.

This x10. I couldn't even get my shoulders back to squat properly because I neglected mobility so much a while back. Ever since doing band dislocations they've been awesome.

Well, I did see his name, I just meant he was a no name lifter that no one has heard of. It's actually pretty difficult to pull 900 and be a no name guy. He has my respect. In this day of internet fame-seeking, every bloke who can pull 700 has an eBook, 10 selfies a day in his undies, and 50,000 IG followers. Here's a guy that's just been working out, pulling 900, benching ~500 raw. (Yes, he does have one undie pic... just checked...)

I feel like most of us are not strong enough to need all this "detraining" for the comp lifts. It's probably more beneficial for top level lifters who always train with high volume or high intensity. But if you're just looking for a "mental break", I guess that's fine.

How about, what were some of your favorite moments? How do you end up doing something like this anyway, can you volunteer or are they looking for someone with your coaching credentials?

Strength comes back in about 6 weeks so its not too bad.

My buddy is taking a few months off PL to focus on weightlifting, as he is pretty beat up and burnt out. I think that might be better than just time off in general from training.
Givin the current condition of my lower back/pelvic musculature, I make take a week off followed by a couple weeks of light workouts, specifically none involving any sort of axial loading -- just give my spine a break, then start up my new training.

Had an awful lift today, really need to seriously consider taking a healthy break. Im stubborn af when it comes to taking time off, but for the first time in a while I think I need it.

Its a pretty basic concept but a lot of people would struggle to move away from the big 3 and do more general work. General --> Specific, Peripheral --> Central, etc.

There were a lot of competition days and sessions but the craziest was the SHW Open lifters battling it out. It was pretty intense when they finally posted up the openers. Just off openers, Ray was projected 2nd and Blaine 6th so we knew we were in for a battle. 6 guys were opening with a 800+ lbs squat and 3 of them ended up finishing with 900+ lbs. It was just 2 years ago Blaine hit that crazy 881 lbs raw squat and now it seems like nothing. Ray crushed that 3rd squat but cramped up afterwards on the way back to the warm up room. His elbows were also bothering him during squat and hindered him during bench. Even with his crazy 1,000.5 kg total he left the door open for Blaine to almost beat him again. Blaine's 360 kg final deadlift was so close but he has problems with the bar getting stuck on his huge legs and then losing his grip.

First started out competing and coaching friends when I wasn't competing. Then did the very first USAPL Coaching Course and became a Club Level Coach. From there I e-mailed the head coach of the Raw Worlds team as well as the head coach for the NAPF Regional team. Asked if I could get on as an assistant and learn as much as I can. Got on both teams so that was when I went to South Africa and St. Croix last year. Then I did the next USAPL Coaching Course that was at Erick's gym and became a Senior National Coach. I asked to get back on both teams this year which I did. But in addition, the Raw Worlds head coach made me head coach of sub-juniors and juniors and NAPF Regional head coach made me head coach of the raw team. So this year I got more responsibilities and learning new things. Lifters on our Raw World team this year as well as people watching the live stream really seemed to have liked how I coached. Apparently this is actually only the 1st time for our raw team and 2nd time ever that both our Open Men and Open Women won 1st place team. All the USAPL coaching terms are up this year and people are sending in resumes to be picked for the next 3 year term. Many people are telling me I should send in mine, so we'll see what happens.

The squatting at IPF Classic in the SHW was really beyond belief for me. To have three guys go over 900, and all of them deep, no knee wraps, drug tested, walked out, with IPF judging, is simply something I thought was impossible two years ago. I believe it is the first time in the history of powerlifting that there have been three squats over 900 without wraps in one competition, though I could be wrong. The level of competition in the IPF is really starting to put to shame all the untested feds with lax judging, which does raise other questions, but still seems pretty cool. I have not been a fan of the IPF for certain reasons in the past, and I do think they have made some bad decisions, but when a fed has the most stringent requirements AND the biggest lifts--well, it quickly becomes the premier place to compete. A few years ago, the IPF Classic had some great lifters, but the numbers paled in comparison to other feds. Now, the reverse is true.

The accessibility of raw powerlifting is greatly increasing the talent/competition pool. Most people dont want to put on tight ass poly gear and have it rip their skin just to lift weights, and you don't need other people to help you like equipped lifters do.

I imagine what we re seeing now will be blown away in 5-10 years time.

The gold medal deadlift in the SHWs was also done beltless and was 800 lbs, pretty cool. And the 2nd and 3rd best Open lifters were the SHWs, which is pretty impressive since many think Wilks is skewed towards smaller lifters.
