Lol. There is actually a very strong and compelling legal case to make for gay unions under the Equal Protection Clause, but it isn't for gay "marriage." A similar thing could be said for the imaginary men....who want MATERNITY leave and insist on calling it that instead of paternity leave.
So, as I have said, I am for civil unions, preferably for everyone under the same term...civil union, but changing the central definition of marriage, yes opposite sexes have been consistent in civic marriages for thousands of years in Western civilization (doesn't make it true...I am not appealing to tradition here), is a culture movement that I am not on board with.Virile agitur

The thing is that I've never actually seen/heard about anyone in real life actually campaigning for this. People who aren't happy with gay marriage often talk about being for civil unions instead, but I genuinely can't think of any time that I've heard about people pushing for civil unions for gays to be made legal and recognised throughout the States.
It seems people point out that they'd be happy with gays getting civil unions, but no one ever tries to make it so that that happens...and then said people get upset when gay marriage is legalised. Don't ask, don't get.

Well, it's really simple actually. In 2003, support for gay marriage was polling at about 40%. So Democrats had to put up this stupid facade that fooled no one, saying they support "civil unions". Why? Because, for whatever reason (most of us believe it's because they're "****ing horrible at politics"), Democrats think they have to appeal to Republican voters who will never ever vote for them.
Then a couple years ago the support ticked over to 61% and Democrats couldn't jump over one another fast enough about how much they support it. Bors, like usual, wonderfully illustrates this:
So. Yeah. You'll remember Obama "evolving" from civil unions to marriage. Anyone with two brain cells knows he supported it from the start and that he was just dancing the dance. Other, bigger things like this act is why people don't like Democrats despite agreeing with 70% of their policies. Looking like you'll say anything to get someone to vote for you doesn't earn any points in the popularity contests, it just makes you look desperate and needy. Or at worst seedy.
Only a few Republicans ever supported "separate but equal", and since you have to vote as a bloc they were never going to let it happen. (40% of their voters are white evangelicals, see.) That's why they passed laws banning gay marriage instead. Whee.
Edit: If you're talking more about internet commentators, well, that's called concern trolling. That's when you pretend to care about something (like, the debt) that you don't give a **** about, to try to get your agenda passed. If you saturate the narrative enough, then the popular opinions seem to be between no marriage and civil unions, and gay marriage becomes a fringe thing only "loonies" would support. The end goal being that gay people are disallowed from forming equal contracts with one another.

It's the new trend. Say you're for "civil unions" for everyone, something that will never see the light of day in Congress and will never happen. Vindicate themselves with a worthless standpoint.
It seems people point out that they'd be happy with gays getting civil unions, but no one ever tries to make it so that that happens...and then said people get upset when gay marriage is legalised. Don't ask, don't get.ChemE in education, SoftwareE in job

The Chief Justice in Alabama is refusing to comply with the law, as are numerous counties in Alabama. Motions are already underway to hold judges in contempt for refusing to follow the law.
As for what this decision means:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/...0LD23Y20150209
The U.S. Supreme Court's move on Monday to allow gay marriage to proceed in Alabama is the strongest signal yet that the justices are likely to rule in June that no state can restrict marriage to only heterosexual couples.
Of the nine justices, only two - conservatives Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia - dissented from the court's refusal to block gay weddings from starting in Alabama. Gay marriage is now legal in 37 states.
Thomas acknowledged in a dissenting opinion that the court’s move to allow gay marriages to go ahead "may well be seen as a signal of the court’s intended resolution"

Moore is a great guy, but part of the old-guard view on things. I don't think the non-fundamentalist-Christians of Alabama wanted or expected anything other than the outcome. Alabama has always, oddly been mixed on social issues.. always the conservative out-group, but often the early-adopter among "the south". Today is a great time to do business in Alabama. The governor is a logical Republican with a lil more good-will than we're use to... versus "on-the-outs" politician-theives, like Mike Hubbard.
We need systems approach to government, no longer partisan patchwork

In the vast majority of the country, and numerous countries around the world yes it does. You can go whine in your little corner all you want. You're on the wrong side of history. Calling gay marriage not real marriage means nothing. It's still about to be legal nation-wide. I don't consider you a Christian, despite you calling yourself one.
