Sad part is, almost every single Russian leader has been this way and the majority of the people could care less because the Russian-sponsored media portrays all happenings as the fault of outside nations, so the people are raised thinking they have been abused by the world. This process is what has, historically, led to strong-arming leaders always remaining in power in Russia...the people literally believe that they need a harsh leader to rid them of the world's abuse.

Uhh do you even geo-politic? How did the west provoke Russia to take Crimea lol? You realize that Ukraine has always been a prized possession in Europe and the Russians have always wanted it. Brb Ukrainians were fighting both Germany and Russia in ww2 at one point because they both wanted it. And the west caused oil prices to drop? Sure there were sanctions, but it was actually a combination of Saudi Arabia dropping their oil prices low as **** (which they can afford but Russia can't) as well as the US producing more oil than Russia...http://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoz...a-for-decades/

"russia so alpha" fantasy is gettin widespread to the point that supporters are going straight to 'zealout support' without ever researching/realizing that Russia is vastly behind the US and Europe. Nice weapons, the US has better... how are your people doing? Yea we take care of ours. A chihuahua can be fearsome until you see the inside of the house they're guarding.. then just laugh., tiny loudmouth ruling little nothing of value.
reps to this brilliant man. if you have never considered this whole scenario.. and you want to argue.. please consider other nations outside of the US and Russia... please get a nice global view so your attack is directed to the right person.... not the older-brother, but the one that rejected his family (in this case, the world)--Russia.We need systems approach to government, no longer partisan patchwork
adios guys, ill lurk 2/15

Ukraine is worthless. No natural resources. Crap people (Talk to any russian/belarussian/polish person and they will all agree.) Why the heck would anyone want that country for anything more than a safeguard? Nato's plan is to put missle silos in Ukraine to threaten Russia, and Putin wont have that.

The ad hominem attacks on the internet are amazing. What I posted above is a historical fact...sure you can dislike it, but you can't deny it.
Doesn't matter where I live...I was raised around Soviet-era Russian immigrants, unlike half of this website that claims to be Russian-born/currently-living in Russia/Russian/etc.

Crimea is strategic naval point. Why would Russia allow NATO on its doorstep? What do you think the US would do if Mexico allowed Russia to setup shop on on the US border?
Why do you think Saudi Arabia dropped it's oil prices?
At least now I think Russia has learnt that they need to make stronger ties with the BRIC countries.

ITT americans that have never left north america speak out on geopolitical issues
Meanwhile: those that have traveled the World. I ask
How would you react to Russia funding Mexican rebels fighting America and then one day you see Russian troops actually stationed in North America?!?!
It's painfully obvious which side of the conflict is to blame for much of this. All that needs to happen is the Westerners pack up and return to their side of the Planet. Quite simple isn't it?

BRIC countries are technically only economically powerful because of Western nations injecting money into their local economies. Russia gets most of its money from Western oil purchases, which is why they are failing economically right now...sanctions.
Russia needs to end its junta like government and militarized economy if it wants to grow financially, but then it would also have to restructure its business/finance sector because there is no government regulation (only on paper).
Your Mexican example is good, though. However, the only reason why people want to block Russia from taking Crimea and Ukraine is that historically (think Cold War), Russia has the tendency to take small plots of land and then claim that it is under threat of encroachment, which the nation then uses to take more land ad nauseum.
In all honesty, Russia is moving backward toward Soviet policies, which makes sense since it has been ran by former-soviets for the past few years. The people are falling back on Soviet-nostalgia where the nation propagated a sense of security through power.

This. The only reason Russia rustles so many jimmies is because unlike the other anti-western countries they have the power to actually influence the world. We are used to having enemies like the Middle East who have no choice but to take our ****.
When the US does something aggressive and puts its own self interest first its alpha but Russia are hated for doing exactly the same.
