    50 non-stop push-ups

I was really pleased with myself yesterday as I broke my personal record with 50 non-stop push-ups.
But I was somewhat deflated when I found this on Wikipedia-

"The record for the most push-ups non-stop was 10,507, set by Minoru Yoshida of Japan in October 1980"

I guess at 55 I'm doing well with 50, This makes interesting reading-

    U.S. Military Requirements
Push-ups are measured as a part of the physical fitness test for every branch of the military, except the Marine Corps. The Air Force requires at least 45 push-ups in one minute to graduate from basic training. You earn the highest standard with 75 push-ups. The Navy minimum requirements are similar with 42 push-ups for 17- to 19-year-olds. That drops to 31 for 30- to 34-year-olds. The Coast Guard requires males under 30 to do at least 29 push-ups in one minute, and the Army requires approximately 40 for the same age group.

I can't even imagine the stress it must put on the joints training yourself up to be able to do that amount of push-ups (Must have felt pretty horrible for a few days after setting that record)

We were supposed to have a work competition earlier in the year for most pushups in two minutes. It got cancelled (I think I intimidated everyone out of it ) but I trained a few weeks for it. I think I got up to around 50 in one go, but found I could do more by doing 40, rest 30 seconds, 20, rest 30 seconds and then to failure, and got to around 75 in the two minutes that way.

I reckon Minoru Yoshida probably only weighed around 120lbs....and had short arms

Well done on your 50 push ups. That record sounds a bit suss with thousands, but who knows. Having backed off the dumbbell bench pressing lately due to a nagging left shoulder, I have focused my chest training on pushups and am pleased to say I did 50 non stop today as well, good feeling. Great pump and I definately feel the pecs work. I raise my feet on a fit ball so the movement mimics an incline bench press. Little stress on shoulders too compared with bench presses or dips.

a couple times I've been to 125-130 over the years. it's pretty easy if you make it a goal.

the way I did it was start on Jan. 1 and do ONE push up. the next day do TWO, next day do THREE and so on. Just continue adding ONE each day.

it seems pointless to do so few at the beginning, but it is a great way to start if you can only do 10-15. since you can already do 50, I'd suggest you start with 25 and add one each day. every month you add about 30 push-ups to your total.

I used to just do it as warm up at the gym. it was pretty funny because by beginning of may I was doing 130 push-ups non-stop for warm up. people would look at me like WTF?

but still, doing 50 GOOD push ups non-stop, well....you don't see many people doing that LOL

    good job

I don't think it is "Bull" it's well documented on the net as well as other amazing numbers people have achieved, look it up!
A bit unfair, but a few years ago I set a challenge to my work colleges saying "I'll double what ever they can Push-up" one guy said it wasn't much of a challenge from him as he couldn't even do one!

I actually did push ups this weekend. I had not done them in a long time. Back before I started going to the gym back in August of this year I tried doing push ups. I could not do 10 good push ups. Seriously out of shape. Saturday morning I woke up and decided to do some. I did a total of 100. 35 non stop, then 20, then 15, and then 3 sets of 10. I think I am going to keep that up on Saturdays for awhile and see how far I can progress. Good job on the 50. Like you, I too had a great pump after doing them and I can actually still feel them a little this morning.

10,507 thousand push ups in a row. Damn, if he was busting out a 100 per minute that is almost 2 hours straight doing push ups.

I regularly do sets of 25 pushups; most days I do about 1 set per hour (which adds up to 100-300 on a good day). Your 50 is solid work. As for that record, well... I want to see the (unedited, authenticated) video. And I prefer to compete with myself.

Nice going Clive. 50 is a lot more than most of the general population can do.

10K is insane. Don't know how anyone can do that but must not suffer from lactic acid buildup I would assume.

Here are some other pushup records:

All push ups are not created equal.
It all depends what you would call a push up.
When i was in high school i was on a physical fitness team sponsered by the marine corps.
One of the events was the push up.
The judges were Marine corps DI's and the requirement was start with arms fully locked out, straight body, then bend elbows maintaining a straight body to touch chest to the DL's flat hand under your chest.
Any non touch, non lock or saggy body was not counted as a rep.
I'm happy to say i did 59 out of the 60 reps for the top score of 100 points.
I had a few no counts.
But in my eyes thats a push up,not the slight elbow bend that many do today and say its a push up.

that set must've lasted around 3 hours, wich is absurd

a professional marathoner is doing 2 and a half hours and he is obliterated after, that with running where every repetition of feet movement is heaps easier than doing a push up

so that chinese ******* sure would wanna have atleast footage of that, but there is none, guiness world records are just a joke

A 3-4 hour PT session was just the start to another day when I was in SOF. It almost killed me hanging with the operators, but I could do it, and I'm no super human.

Pretty routine in the Army to see someone hit over 75 push-ups on their PT test in under the two minutes given. My max was 76 in 1:35. And no you don't get to raise your hands or feet off the ground once the grader says start.

Wow! Seems impossible but "it is what it is.". For 7-months I only did calisthetics. Got hung up on the Bar Brothers and Hannibal and all the other guys. I was doing 500 a day. Not straight, I could only crank out 40 straight. I saw rippage in my chest and arms but dam did I destroy my joints in my elbows from the push-ups. Be careful because myelbows ache me every day now and dont wish it on anyone else

OP you should be happy with yourself, the average guy let alone the average guy over 35 can't do that many. After awhile when the push-ups become to easy for you try putting your feet on a bench to add weight to your chest. That world record guy Minoru Yoshida, I'd like to see the video. Good luck with your 2015 fitness goals.

congrats on the 50 PU's. that's a good number. I did 50 the a couple of weeks ago, not straight through but made it to 45 or so and then rested in the position for a second or two then finished off. Back in the days of basic trades training my buddy and I would rattle off 50 at a time everytime one of us would spill a drink. Not even sure how it started but I think it was an incentive to not spill alcohol

For something to do, do your pushups on your bathroom scale to see how much you are pressing.
Max weight I've lifted In 2017. Trying to figure out how to cut, thinking of walking on stage next year.

In college, a frat held a push-up contest for charity. The Barbell Club entered, figuring we’d win easily. But we didn’t count on them allowing belly-ups to count as push-ups. I did about 75 with good form, before realizing I could get away with belly-ups, so I did another 75 that way for a total of 150. The ex-marine in the club did 250 with perfect form. But the frat won by doing all of their push-ups with horrid form.
