A suggestion would be to use peanut butter and bananas both help mask the taste alot (especially for spirulina) and are pretty healthy.

I typically do a 1000 calorie power smoothie every morning after I swim and workout

New Findings Build on 2013 Sugar Toxicity Study

The 2013 study found that when mice were fed either a diet with 25 percent calories in the form of added fructose and glucose monosaccharides or 25 percent calories from starch, females died at twice the normal rate and males were a quarter less likely to hold territory and reproduce.

The new study compared two groups of mice that were fed a healthy diet with 25 percent calories from processed sugars. One group ate a mix of fructose-glucose monosaccharides like those in high-fructose corn syrup. The other group ate sucrose.

Female mice on the fructose-glucose diet had death rates 1.87 times higher than females on the sucrose diet. They also produced 26.4 percent fewer offspring.

The new study found no differences in males on the two diets in terms of survival, reproduction or ability to compete for territory. But Potts said the 2013 study showed male mice were a quarter less likely to hold territory and reproduce on the fructose-glucose mix compared with starch. That, combined with the new findings, “suggests sucrose is as bad for males as high-fructose corn syrup,” he says.

Ruff says it also is possible that “other factors are more important than the differences between these two diets for the males” – possibly inherited differences in ability to hold territory.

Potts says female mice that ate the fructose-glucose mixture may be more likely to die than male mice because they undergo a bigger metabolic “energy crunch” during such studies: on the day they give birth, they mate and conceive the next litter, so they are nursing their first litter while gestating a second litter.

Regardless of sex, the researchers also found no difference between mice on the two diets when it came to food intake, weight gain or glucose tolerance. Sucrose is broken into fructose and glucose monosaccharides before the body absorbs it. So whatever caused the different mortality and reproduction in females on the two kinds of sugar diets, “it has to happen at the point of absorption or before – not once it is in the bloodstream, liver or brain,” Ruff says.

“So we speculate that the different sugars could favor different microbes in the guts of mice. Other research has shown differences in bacterial communities in the gut to be associated with metabolic diseases in rodents and in humans. It’s possible one form of sugar causes more bacteria to get across your gut than another.”

Can find stuff on pubmed about the issues of high fructose diets if you fruity brahs are actually being srs and want legit primary documents as evidence

Anyone have a good recipe that can easily be thrown into a cutting diet? i.e. low carbs/calories in general. I'm guessing it'll taste like ass without some form of sweetener?

My go-to every morning is leafy greens with a few baby carrots, a small handful of blueberries and/or a few blackberries (put in too many and the seeds are annoying), and a banana. For greens I usually go to Costco and get the big bags of "Power Greens" they sell (blend of spinach, kale, and chard).

Taste is really good even without a lot of sweet fruit. Calories are mostly just the banana. The rest is pretty negligible.

So that ^ post was from 5/1.

high blood pressure runs in my family (dads side).

Anything less than 120/80 is considered perfect, and I NEVER see numbers hanging below 120/80 unless I'm doing these smoothies consistently.

the last time I saw less than 120/80 was when I was doing these smoothies every day a couple years ago. Without drinking them I will consistently see my systolic reading well over 140 almost 100% of the time.

No other variables have changed, really. I still eat pizza, ice cream, cookies, etc.

I've just replaced one meal per day with these smoothies...

blood pressure readings in order (first one is 4/29). I don't test every single day, but every 1-5 days I will test it.

    - 153/83 (taken 4/29, not drinking any smoothies)
    - 134/86
    - 136/85
    - 142/84
    - 128/76
    - 133/79
    - 124/77
    - 139/80
    - 131/69
    - 127/74
    - 119/75 (taken 5/22, 3 weeks of smoothies)
    - 119/77 (taken 5/23)

EDIT: thinking about aiming for 110/70 as my next goal. Not sure if possible.

I said it earlier in the thread already, but my cholesterol lowered. Don't remember the numbers, but I was borderline once when I had a physical, and a year later when I had another one it had lowered enough to where my doctor asked me what I was doing. And I don't even drink one every day...

No I just do banana, strawberry, spinach, chia seeds, and natty peanut butter. Nothing crazy. Everything super cheap and available at the store.

Yeah it's awesome. with my regular numbers a doctor would have prescribed medication. I refuse to take anything, so these smoothies will have to do. I just need to keep drinking them all year. I tend to stop making them in the winter.

I recommend putting Kefir in. For those that haven't heard of it look it up. It can be pretty expensive to buy if you use it every day but you can cultivate your own at home to make it a lot cheaper. Aside from the great benefits it has, it's helped vastly reduce the amount of horrific smelling gas I was emitting every day due to the shakes.

do you actually blend in the chia seeds or add them after so they make dat dere super lube?

this is my same go-to mix, adding protein or milk is pretty damn thick and usually froths like crazy, unless you do it after and hit pulse two or three times.

    2 handfuls of Kale
    Half a Banana
    Half a Avacado
    Handful of Blueberries
    Handful of Carrots

Usually my go too, keeping anymore fresh produce than this gets way too expensive. Anything you guys add to you're shake that really made a difference in how you feel? I agree above with making this with kefir, give it time 2-3 weeks and get the low sugar version. But it really helps improve digestion, regularity and mood surprisingly. I can eat foods like pizza and chipotle that would usually cause some serious bloating and gas but it's non existent now

Haven't read the thread to know if anyone does this, but I can confirm, homemade Kefir is the GOAT. I usually make kefir every day and add a few blueberries or blend it with bananas or strawberries.

For vegetables I use a juicer. Mostly celery and ginger root, but I add carrots/cabbage/cucumber, sometimes spinach/kale/parsley and rarerly strawberry/orange/papaya. But I would recommend adding apple to make it taste good.

I skip the smoothies and high calorie shakes for health reasons. Otherwise I would use flax seed blended into all of my shakes.

    blood pressure study continued.

Yesterday (5/29) I did not have a smoothie, today (5/30) my blood pressure is sitting @ 134/91.

The two preceding days when I did have them, I tested @ 124/78, and 121/79.

It's crazy to see both systolic and diastolic readings jump 10 points on one day off the smoothies. My blood pressure is truly in my hands as far as controling it. I don't use any medication so being consistent with these veggie shakes is very important.

I guess these smoothies just need to become a life long breakfast without alternatives.
Spoiler alert; you die at the end.
