That's a bit of a stretch there, china has never really been adept at conquering far away lands and zhu already ruled for 30 year so he had plenty of chance. You can say this about practically any great ruler, Alexander the Great, peter the great, Richard the lionheart and they all ruled for less time than zhu. I don't see it especially being that several powers around the world were on the rise at that time as well.

Yea you're right in some cases. Zhu and the emperors following only cared about internal affairs, to them all foreigners were barbarians anyway.
But lol @ thinking that the "rising powers" of the time (15th-18th century) could take on China if it decided to project its power. If you know anything about the sheer economic and military power of the mid-late Ming and early Qing (ie. stable times), you'd realize that up until the 18th century there really wasn't a contender. It was just that the world wasn't very connected at the time and China just cared about internal affairs.
Conquistadors conquered Aztecs with no more than several hundred people.
brb Zheng He's first voyage had 320+ ships (just stop for a second and try to visualize this). Brb treasure ships alone (not even specialized warships) have 24 bronze cannons on each. This was before ships of the lines and what not, so that's a ton. Brb 32,000 armed soldiers on voyage, full with matchlock guns and cannonade. brb more male population in the fleet than ALL of the port cities in the area, from Guangzhou to Mombasa. brb the # of soldiers in the fleet is higher than the total population of some of the small kingdoms. Reached all the way to East Africa, making everyone along the way a tribute because they're scared of this fleet. If China was like Europe they could've easily conquered all of these places.
Understandably their ships were not seaworthy enough to reach America. but lol could've totally colonized Africa or gained a foothold in India instead of the British.Last edited by LettuceFuark; 12-10-2014 at 06:19 AM.

Zhu will never be considered a conqueror by anyone - bar Asians and most likely proud Chinese.

India and Africa? Sure no doubt and if they fought Britain over India early on they would have won their IMO. The middle east and Europe is more doubtful. By 1450 Venice ALONE had 3000+ ships and Europeans have been the masters of naval warfare for a long time, that tends to happen when you have a massive amount of coast in such a small land area. Greeks beat the Persians despite having smaller, fewer ships, British strategy against Algeria during the bombardment of Algiers was again nothing short of brilliant. History is absolutely full of these types of examples. Bigger does not always necessarily mean better when it comes to ships as well. The ottomans built some ridiculously large and well armed ships with their fabulous wealth but European naval strategy and tactics combined with generally smaller ships won the day.
When china went to Africa and India they did not particularly see anything worth taking. They didn't decide to not colonize it out of moral reasons if that's what you were getting at.
I respect china a lot. Probably my favorite Asian culture and I am not just kissing ass or trying to sound cultured like a lot of other white college aged people, really admire some of the creative weaponry like the hook sword. Chinese folklore is one of my favorites and it makes up a big part of one of my favorite shows Avatar the Last air bender. What I'm saying is we can disagree on this but don't take that to mean I have anything against China.Last edited by Axman5000; 12-10-2014 at 08:10 AM.

Dad's family are giants (all men 6'3+) from Donegal, mum's family are Italian midgets (she's 4'11, tallest brother is 5'6ish). I turned out 5'10. Both parents pale as f*ck. Dad is extremely thin and mum is very muscular for a non lifting woman.
Genetic benefits: olive skin, prominent high cheekbones, wide shoulders and meaty low inserting calves. Unfortunately didn't get the good beard genes, got coarse black hair all over my face but it's ridiculously patchy, looks dreadful if I don't shave every 2-3 days.

My roots are;
Scottish, Scandinavin, Irish, English, French.
I have royal blood from the Scottish and Scandinavian lines.
Blue eyes, reddish/blonde hair, ginger beard, short, Viking looking hair, pale skin.PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.
