Lost dog showed up last night

A lost dog showed up at my apt last night after thanksgiving dinner was over. He is an older golden lab, and very well trained. Asked neighbors if they recognized the dog but none did. His tag is gone too. Doubt he is chipped but may take him to the vet to check.

What do? I feel bad because I know he wants to go home, and I'm sure his owners miss him. Will post signs later when I am off work.

For now he is laying on my bed with a ball he found last night

That was my first thought. I'm going to take care of him and if no one responds I'll keep him. I'll post pics later and misc can help me decide on a name

If you take to vet they will scan for chip, if he is chipped they will usually keep and call. I would put up flyers for a couple days, check CL ads, and the online sites like PetHarbor etc. in case owners post lost ad. Just make SURE its the actual owner ask them to identify him without giving any info away. There are some sick people out there sadly.

Thanks for the solid advice..poverty reps coming your way. I've never had a lost pet come my way so I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he has his old home, or a new one with me.

Dude nobody has said craigslist? Put him on craigslist. Ive had people respond within hours of posting dogs we have found there.


Edit: might be good to not include a picture on the ad, make the owner describe ze doge.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Too many people out there that are dishonest. He deserves to have his rightful owner!

Update: No word from anyone yet. Posted signs at the vet, local stores, and on the side of the road near where I live.

Got some snow last night, so I'm glad he showed up before the extreme cold. He slept on my bed again, with ball in mouth. He is a pretty chill old guy
