Just came across this today during my daily reading into the latest/greatest nutrition & supplement news and found this interesting...
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...ents/16827669/
I currently use WFR as my pre-workout and it doesn't contain AMP-citrate nor does the sample packet of Neurosurge 3.0 that I saving to use for my Back workout on Friday. Anyone have any experience with this ingredient in the pre-workouts or thoughts if it is as dangerous as the article is making it out to be?

Cliffs:
No real research done on humans as to effects of AMp Citrate, which closely resembles DMAA, and is arguably being sold as a "replacement" to DMAA
Proprietary Blends are dangerous because users dont know how much they are getting
Study found various levels of AMP citrate in the supps they tested, with Ampilean by lecheek having the most, about 120mg.
The researchers are calling for action but have heard nothing from FDA or CRN: "But the council has heard nothing from the FDA, said Steve Mister, CRN president. Mister said this is a clear-cut case where the agency has the authority to act swiftly because AMP Citrate does not appear to have been used as a dietary ingredient prior to a 1994 supplement law. If companies want to sell "new" dietary ingredients, they must file paperwork with the FDA in advance of selling their products."
Cahill made Frenzy with AMP citrate in it and sites it as coming from a Pouchong Tea but only two articles were found to state that the chemical can be found in TRACE quantities in the tea, and these articles did not offer concrete evidence for those statements.
"Even if the compound were present in the amount indicated in one of the papers, supplement makers would need at least 2,200 pounds of tea to extract just 12 mg of the compound — showing the substance has never been in human diets at the dosages being put in the supplements, he said."
GNC and Vitamine Shoppe have removed sale of certain products, such as White Heat from online sale.
Amp citrate is also known as DMBA, and health effects have only been studied in cats and dogs and found to mimic DMAA in a less potent manner.
FDA needs to file a freedom of Information act request which can take months to find if any users have reported adverse side effects within the US.

haha, yeah most likely, I tried to not be biased, personally I used maybe 4 tubs of white heat since it came out and hav to say it was good
my issue is actually more so with the proprietary blends and the fact that some supps apparently claimed to have it yet tests found they did not. wether or not this is proven empirically im not sure but I feel all should be stated, and leave it to the consumer to make his or her own choice.Last edited by luxor92; 10-21-2014 at 05:53 PM.

Fear mongering is whats going on by the media
its a stim, so treat it as such, moderation is the key to it
even with low dose caffeine, ppl dont respond to it well
no offence, but i hate it when ppl OD on stims and the stim is to be blamed by the media instead of the user
like over here down under an 18 year old kid died from OD on caffeine, not 100% sure but i think he had equivalent of maybe 20-30 cups of coffee worth of caffeine in his system at the time and media is shifting the blame on caffeine and how dangerous it is
but back on topic
DMBA gives caffeine a kick when used together, not as strong as DMAA though
tolerance is another issue as you build it up rather quickly like DMAA, but so far using it, i didnt experience the dreaded crash i got when i last used jack3d when it was still legal

According to the study, DMBA was detected in 12 supplements. Here are those popping up in this forum: Redline White Heat 76 mg per serving, MD2 Meltdown 110 mg per serving, Decimate Amplified 49 mg per serving, Frenzy 110 mg per serving, Evol 13 mg per serving. AMP Citrate by Genomyx didnt have any in it, again according to the study. So one could ask what the **** is in it?

Genomyx offered credit for people who sent their tubs back in.
I messaged them, expressed my disappointment and asked if I could return them to the retailer as I live in the UK.
They said no, I had to send it to them.
I said that would cost almost as much as I paid for them. I can provide proof of purchase and return it to the retailer.
They said no, I had to send it to them.
I pointed out what I felt was poor customer service to not give the option to send it back to a legitimate UK retailer when an article allegedly claimed they couldn't detect any amounts of a key ingredient in the product.
Still nothing.

The sad thing is that it's still rather unconvincing that DMAA is that dangerous when used properly.
AMP Citrate feels pretty good, but there is literally zero research on it. If you're conservative, then don't use it.Founder of PricePlow - Bodybuilding.com Affiliate

dear lord, all this fear mongering by the media, and reps who's companies don't use AMP.
It's a bloody stim, one that is reportedly less potent then DMAA. I think it's pretty clear at this point that the issues with DMAA were blown way out of proportion as well. We prescribe stimulants/amphetamines that are way more potent then AMP, to not only adults, but children.
"oh, but minimal studies......" pffft. There have been more then enough studies done on stimulants that are very similar in chemical compound, and many of the substances that are much more potent, have been deemed as safe.
