Don't take this in the wrong way man but at those lifts anything other than SS, SL or Greyskull would be less than ideal. You still have noob gains to make, why not just enjoy going into the gym 3 times a week and add 5 lbs to the bar every time for a few months?

Babylover's SS would probably be the best. Just eat at a 500 calorie surplus and let the gains flow.

That advice gets parroted around here non stop and I wish people would actually dig into the research and look at the program from a long term perspective. I think the methodology behind the program is simple enough but it misses out on some big details and could be applied much more effective is someone understood proper progressions/regressions, biomechanics, and programming beyond just strictly principles (SAID, progressive overload, Selye's GAS theory, fitness/fatigue paradigm, etc.).

It isn't a long term program though. It's just useful to build a base for a few months that can be used as a launching pad for more advanced programs.

Perhaps but even still, it has the potential to be SO MUCH better if someone understood more about programming. Building a base is much more than just lean body mass, it includes motor learning, movement competency, adequate distal joint mobility+proximal stability. All these things take time to develop but you must ensure the skills put in place aren't too advanced or else you generate compensations from the start and they are more difficult to correct later on.

Been training often lately. Upper/lower when I can train consecutive days and really enjoying my training. Sitting at around ~183-185 but still DYEL lol

Looking forward to leaning out and gaining some strength working with a very reputable strength coach. Let the gains flow!

    NOTES:
-- I have not slept as much as I should but I am learning how to train enough for a stimulus but not too much to overreach. Been feeling great in the gym.
-- It is a momentum gain like anything else. Now the gym is a priority and I feel much better.
-- I rarely do more than 2 sets on an exercise and do a much higher variety of exercises. Joints feel good.

    Sup playas.

Here is a run down of my last 6 months.

    - Took new job as Ecommerce consultant
    - Moved to another city again (Chitown)
    - Drank heavily for ~4 months straight.
    - Almost got to 200 pounds on October 1. I looked badly but my health was atrocious. Walking up stairs left me with phlegm in my lungs and so forth.
    - Desk job + no activity + eating 3-4 large meals a day + alcoholic beverages = no bueno.
    - Working 12-14 hour days.
    - Sleep ~4-5 hours a night.

Ya boy was not feeling good and something had to change. I literally had a moment, as I was cooking up some bacon and eggs for dinner after work, where a buddy of mine sent me a screen of me and him in the gym a while back. Sure, I was not the biggest dude but I remember FEELING great, being proactive about sleep, not being brain dead, and so forth, so I just said: Fu** this.

Got my gym clothes on, paid for a gym membership, and walked on the treadmill. Tossed the eggs and bacon and went shopping for REAL food for the first time. Prioritized sleep and started saying no.

Since October 1, I have brought my weight down to ~175 pounds, sleeping more, work productivity has skyrocketed, received a promotion, bought clothes that fit me, and just started my first fitness routine in over half a year.

I will be documenting my journey here. This go around, my goals are a little different.

    Goals:
    - Financial stuff. I can go more into detail later, but I am looking for a place in Austin, TX to purchase.
    - Sleep: 8-9 quality hours per night.
    - Reading: 2-3 books per month.
    - Health: 3 gym sessions per week.
    - Alcohol: Limit to 1x a week MAX, and understand I can still enjoy myself without getting blasted.
    - Work: I want to break out sales records this coming year and GM an office by 2020.
    - Gym: Get good at the basics, and break ankles on the basketball court.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot. I lifted 2 times this week, and will be deadlifting + OHP today. My lifts are trash, and front squatting earlier this week felt like my hamstrings and quads were strained/cramping. Might have to really ease into this.

Any advice on your favorite way to bring cardio up quickly? Been playing a lot of basketball and want to not feel like someone is beating my chest with a 2x4 7 minutes in lmaoooo
