Dude in for subtle brag thread. But repping 200 in 2 months and maxing 250, a lot of guys that takes a couple of years to accomplish. What you did in the past is out the window, you have a lot more to work with than most, but results just don't pop up over night.

There are hundreds of videos on youtube on how to increase your bench, progression, form, etc

Other than that I do 5 sets. When I reach the highest weight I can do for 8 reps I add more the next week and do that until I can reach 8 reps then add more.
Max weight I've lifted In 2017. Trying to figure out how to cut, thinking of walking on stage next year.

No brag needed. I am nowhere near that after consistent training. Props if true.

Your bench. As well as any other lift. Will increase with a progressive program.

    This may be of use.

As for getting big. LOL. Don't worry. You wont soon.

sinedege: your problem is the same as so many others on here: you are chasing the riddle of the iron: whether you get "bigger" or not, will not be determined by how much you bench....

it will be determined by an OVERALL approach, both training TECHNIQUE-wise, along with Nutritional support and rest, and lastly, GENETICS.....the last being something you don't know, and shouldn't figure on.....

but until you learn that you must concentrate on the QUALITY of your workouts, you will endlessly chase how much weight you move through space, which, as you have already seen, goes up and down at it's whimsical pleasure: what IS controllable, is HOW you do the lifts.....
Lift as MUCH as you can, for as MANY reps as you can,
while in complete control of the exercise.

After several years I struggle at 200 lbs. But my son can do 225 with little effort or training.

Strength comes and goes you just have to stay focused when I goes so it can comeback again! So many things factors in strength eating ,sleeping, days between workouts, emotions, we all fall victim to these once n a while. Back off a few days, look over your workout and make some changes you'll be gaining in no time!

Is your goal to have a big Bench number or a big chest? Both aren't necessarily the result of the same procedures.
    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

My last few weeks on my bench were rough, really rough. I got more reps every week, one at a time but it took awile finishing up my 5x5. Tomorrow is the last day of my week deload........ Thank God !!!!!!! I did light DB flat & inclines on Tuesday, light flys, went home.

Point is, I feel freakin good. I'm pretty sure my next weight will go up faster. Either way I'm not where I throw #5 more on the bar every week. I'm also considering changing my 5x5 to a 6x4. I lift light DB flat & incline on Tuesdays. Heavy BB flat & decline on Fridays.

Just my thoughts.... deload and or change set & rep.

Point 1: you have only been at this 2 months. Come back in 2 years.

Point 2: you used to bench xyz, but you can't now, what should you do? Do whatever got to you to xyz bench before.

Point 3: every few days there is a post along these lines, which is total BS, so I will translate for the masses. I have only been going to the gym for a couple of months and I don't know my ass from my elbow, but I don't want to look like a fool, so I will claim to have been in to it before and make up a number, in order that people will think I am one of the "gang" instead of a newb.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

I think most of the people who are our ages who started up again lift alot less then when they were younger. i know my bench was over 100lbs more than my bench now but im working on it, I just dont have the ability to workout like a did in highschool and college so it takes longer. Im guessing its the same for you.

I've found that applies to me. Over the years I went from having ribs to something at least defined. But my numbers have only pushed marginally higher by about 40 lbs.

I came back to weightlifting almost 4 years ago after being off for over 20 something years. It took me years to regain my college bench max, and when I got there I realized how unimportant it really was because I've realized that size and aesthetic are more important to me then numbers. 37 is still youngish —give it time.

Lift weights that you struggle with. When you gradually lifts heavier poundage, it adjusts by building muscle to accommodate that heavier load. If you never test it with a heavier load, it never forces itself to accommodate; you stay at your max, for all intents and purposes, forever. Improving your bench press weight is often as easy as periodically working in unworkable weight.
Say you do four sets of bench, starting out with 180 lbs., and ramping up to 185, 190, and finally 200. You can perform all sets — not easily but fitfully. Then it's time to adjust your weight. Start off at 185 lbs., ramping up to 190, 195, and then 210. Really push the last set. You should be struggling to complete it.
If you want to complete all four sets, choose increasing weights that are all just barely manageable. Then try four reps of a fifth set, where you struggle with the last rep.
Alternately, you can try sets with 4 to 5 reps. If you're only doing 5 reps per set, increase your weight significantly. Try these types of sets maybe once a week if you work out your chest twice a week

I got back into the gym about 6mos ago. I couldn't even get up 165lb for 5 reps... That was pretty embarrassing for a man my size. I hit 280lb for 4 reps on Monday & I'm doing 5x10 @ 160lb for accessory work. Train, rest, eat right, & move steel. It comes back.

Get your form checked, post vids etc for critique. If that's ok then increase your weekly volume and if required, your frequency. Split up your volume to bench 2 or 3 times a week if you need to.

How can you visualize training a muscle if you don't know its structure?

The thing is, you're in the gym putting in the work. That's exactly what you do... Work to achieve those gains and goals!

If I was you, I'd do some weeks of heavy low reps a m d the 2 weeks of light high reps... Then back to a very heavy week for max.

Keep that muscle and mind guessing.
