    Alcohol and lifting

Hey,do you guys find some beers at the weekend affects your Monday workouts??

    i'm pushing the big '35' and i don't drink often,but Saturday i went out for a few,had Sunday as a day off,
and my workout today was awful.I started a new program last week, and as the first few weeks are an accumilation phase i found it easy enough.

Today was a whole different story.Grinding out 5 reps on what was a light Deadlift, struggling to finish off my pullups, actually hit below some reps on my other lifts.
Felt weak and somewhat jittery, like that low blood sugar feeling.

Thinking about just leaving the drink out altogether,i would never crave it or drink at home,it's just i was out with friends and thought 'meh, what the hell, why not'

coinkydink??or is it just an off day?does drinking affect you guys in any way??

Not really. I don't drink often, (once or twice a month) and I find as long as the hangover has mostly gone I'll have as good a workout as ever.

A couple of drinks gives me insane vascularity.
Bench press: current 65kg, goal 70kg
    Squat: current 75kg, goal 90kg
    Deadlift: current 100kg, goal 120kg

Natural Physique Assoc. (UK) figure 2014, 2nd place.

I can't say that it seems to impact me any when I do. Seeing that drinking can impact quality sleep I suppose it is a possibility.

I also notice the same affect on vascularity.

Its hit or miss with me, so no real coorelation, I don't drink that much anymore. It can mess with hormones etc when in excess supposedly lowers T etc. I think occoasional drinks wont derail progress that much but it depends on your goals, obviously food would be a better choice for the cals at 7 cal/g. Alcohal is processed and detoxified by the liver first before food, so anything eaten while under the influence has a higher probability of being stored as fat rather than burned as fuel, so likely not good on a cut unless you plan to go to bed hungry and thats not much fun. It can also interfere with Leptin and make you not realize you are full, so it makes it easier to eat too many cals...

It barely affects my workouts at all, any effect for me is more likely the poor nutrition from poor food. I rarely get hangovers, and on the rare occasions I do, pre-workout drinks are a great cure.

Alcohol has made me fatter than I should be though. If I didn't drink, I'd have 10lbs less fat. It's a price worth paying.

Nope, don't have a problem with drinking and lifting. As I follow pretty strict guidelines:

During my cut phase...abstain...all the time.

During bulking phase, drink Fri, Sat and Sunday (if game on) but moderation..no more than two. Rare event, then let her rip. Been married 20 years now, wife has yet to see me drunk.

Nothing wrong with moderation. There is a time and place.

Warning, if you chose to abstain then it may freak your friends and significant others. Mine hated it at first as I wasn't "as much fun". In time they learned to like it, as they had a built in DD.
And when Caesar reached the Oceanside, he wept. As there were no more worlds to conquer.

I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Funny enough I often break by personal bests after heavy drinking.

Might be an abundance of calories? Not sure

When I drink I normally drink half to full bottle of vodka and only vodka, maybe once a month or twice. I don't really drink at all between.. Then in the morning I eat a fortune and eat non stop whole day. Then by evening I get the willpower to gym and bam, feel like a bull

it affects me big time. i get or feel hunger if i have 5 beers or 20 beers. ruins my gains for that day and the next day or two. diet also goes to chit. i'm going on my 5 week of no alcohol. my midsection is going down and the only thing i changed is no beer. of course you can drink beer and still lose weight, but i'm looking to lose more fat than just weight. todays workout did kinda suck, but that's because i didn't take in enough calories on sunday.

It usually doesn't effect me by Monday. I totally agree with the additional vascularity though, the alcohol really dries me out.

I'm not a heavy drinker on weekends. When I do drink on weekends, it's usually beer and vodka. It doesn't seem to effect my Monday workout. On Monday's I'm usually amped up to get a great start to my workout week.

It's a great way to end off a cut. I've been discouraged by fat loss progress, gone on a binge and looked great the next day.

Haven't noticed a vascularity change at all. Mainly beer with the occasional glass of wine. When I do drink I tend to eat and hydrate well the day and the day after. Have consistently noticed an extra 5 lbs on lifts. My weight and gains remain untouched/steady.

    Beer raises test. SRS.

It is accountable for at least 3 or 4 percent of my body fat tho.
