Would you rather be functionally strong or be a big gorilla builder?

    Lets talk about bodybuilders..

They usually work individual muscles at a time. So they are big, and each muscle is strong, but typically their hearts can't provide oxygen to all of the muscles simultaneously, since they don't do full body exercises.

They can be sort of strong, but a full body exercise will get them worn out fast. The lack of body fat also means they have very poor energy reserves.

Full body cardio like rowing is devastating to anyone who does not do it hard and long, like bodybuilders. In rowing, looks don't count. Power over time does. A strong guy with great cardio power will wipe the floor with a typical bodybuilder in a 6-10 minute race, or longer. Bodybuilders also take creatine and other bad supplements which gives fake strength and size, often called air/water muscles.

Functional strength trainers on the other hand, have very good "real-Life" strength, stamina and cardio. This guy demonstrates a great exercise for functional strength, typical for functional strength traineers: http :// youtu. be/4dtHHIkzrl4?t=52s (remove spaces)

Now, who would you want to be? I am already a functional strength trainer, and gave up fake weightlifting a long time ago.

Well, you are trolling but I will amuse you anyway. I recently turned back to bodybuilding after doing "functional training". I go to a school in chicago, and regulary have to go to the "bad" parts of the city. When I was doing functional training, I got jumped, alot. I didnt look big, but I was strong. But I dont give a **** how strong you are, 5 guys jump you you will get busted up. Now that I do bodybuilding, I am bigger than most of the population. I dont get jumped any more because people just look at me and dont mess with me. Size radiats threat, and IMO prevention is the best way to fight. And I can still do heavy work around the house and lift heavy tress that fell down and all the ****. SO no, functional training is good if you are training specifically for a sport(football player: sled pusshing, position work), or want to compete is crossfit.

to answer your question, i'd rather be a big bodybuilder. and guys, "functional strength", while mostly bull****, is not entirely bull****. who do you think would have an easier time lifting and moving a 300 pound object, the average NPC competitor or the average strongman?
