Surely this is too good to be true!?

    Surely this can't be right??
I've been working out properly (watching nutrition and hitting gym 4 times a week) since the start of the year. However, i've only really been monitoring bodyfat and getting my nutrition really nailed since the beginning of July.

I've worked out my maintenance to be 3,000 cals a day and am currently on 2,700 (-10%) trying to cut fat without losing too much muscle. I get 200g protein, 100g fat and the rest (abut 250g) is carbs.

I take my weight/bodyfat measurement weekly. I use the same scales, the same bodyfat calipers and do it at the same time (Monday morning pre breakfat, post...ermmm...you know) but the figures i'm getting just seem too good to be true!?? I've just done my sixth weigh in this morning and here's where i'm at:

    Week 1
    Overall weight (lbs)221
    Bodyfat (%) 26
    Bodyfat (lbs) 57.2
    Fat free mass (lbs) 163.8

    Week 6
    Overall weight (lbs) 214.6
    Bodyfat (%) 20
    Bodyfat (lbs) 42.1
    Fat free mass (lbs) 172.5

    Results in 6 weeks
Overall weight (lbs) -6.4lbs (losing around 1lb overall weight a week)
    Bodyfat (%) -6% (losing around 1% bodyfat a week)
Bodyfat (lbs) -15.1lbs (losing around 2.5lbs bodyfat a week)
Fat free mass (lbs) +8.7lbs (GAINING nearly 1.5lbs lean mass a week!!?)

The fat loss is fair enough as i work out hard, eat well and do cardio but surely i can't be GAINING nearly 1.5lbs of lean mass a week?? Am i being stupid and missing something obvious or do these figures seem realistic?

Calipers are an inaccurate way of measuring bodyfat, which as a result will throw off all the rest of your numbers (other than 'Overall weight').

I would just continue with your weekly weigh-ins on the scale, and forget about your bf%. It's just an arbitrary number at this point; your goal is either to lose weight, or gain weight, regardless of whether the calipers tell you that you're 26% or 20%.

Although fat callipers aren't accurate for BF%, they are a good way of measuring your fat loss.
