WS4SB3 vs. Madcow/5x5 vs. PHAT for strength gains for intermediate/advanced lifter?
hello everyone..
i'm 28 years old, and been in the lifting game for a while now.. i'd consider myself to be in between the intermediate and advanced categories (at least based on what exrx.com tells me).. here are my stats as of couple months ago (i lost a little strength since then due to Ramadan and a couple weeks i took off)
height: 5'8"
bodyweight: ~190 lbs
squat: 335 x 3 reps
bench: 235 x 4 reps (got 225 for 8 reps a few months back, but never was able to get it since)
deadlift: 315 x 10 reps / 355 x 6 reps
my strongest days were my early 20s when i played college football.. i was maxing out in the low 300s for bench and had a 435 lbs box squat for 1 rep.. i did a routine similar to WS4SB3, ate whatever i want, and had crazy strength gains (50 lbs on bench in 12 weeks, and roughly 100 on the squat in that time).. but i also gained a lot of fat, which was okay back then since i played D-line, but def don't want that now..
i'm currently cutting right now (lift 3x a week, boxing 2x a week).. but plan to start my bulk again in the winter.. this time i'm not that concerned with size gains.. ppl already think i'm muscular so idc much about gaining size.. but i wanna get that college football strength again without weighing as much.. gaining size would be cool too, but it's not my primary goal.. these days i feel like my squat and deadlift go up okay, but my bench just refuses to increase and i hate that
so given that, what's the best routine for this? WS4SB3, 5x5, or PHAT?..i wanna do a PHAT type of routine but from what ppl are saying, seems like a 5 day routine is better for hypertrophy / size, than it is for strength.. i personally have never tried anything more than 4x a week so was feignin' for some input
