Do you guys know if Hostgator will let you change a domain you're not using for another one or do you have to make another purchase?

For the hosting plan? You should be able to change the primary domain on the hosting plan through cPanel no problem.

    I think.

If you mean like register a new domain name then yeah that will be a new purchase.

Haha I pretty much did everything you wrote. Didn't want to post URL though and shared link to the FB page hoping for likes instead. Posted it in a friendly, non-spammy way too. Groups are definitely a good way for traffic if done right.

Most groups are closed though so I only did to an open group, need to be accepted by a few of them first.

Lol. Also good to get a friend to jump in on the first comment and say something positive. That social proofing stops others from calling you a spammer etc.

/\ Make a related youtube channel, produce 20-30 videos discussing the topic, make an unlisted video going over your pitch, send that.

Much more personal and much more likely to succeed than them having no social proof/not knowing who you are and not having any visibility (why a lot of online marketers love showing their face and making video...assures the audience it's not a "scam")

Yea. It's almost good to see some negative reviews. at least you know it's real.

I bought a writing type gig from a "native english speaker" couple weeks back. they were not a native english speaker. Definitely got suckered. Upsold me another $10 or something too. Be careful on fiverr everyone! I've mostly had really good gigs though.

Bought a twitter verify gig. Person is verified and DM's @verified requesting whoever needs verification. Checked some of their verified examples, one person only has 125 followers. All positive feedback, so thought it was worth a shot for $5. Still skeptical, so I'll see in a few days.

What is the anatomy of a profitable online business in 2015? (srs)

Is anyone in this thread having very good success with their online business? By very good success I mean earning a full time income and not having to worry about money? (see Pat Flynn for the sort of success I'm talking about: http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/my...income-report/).

I've been trying to be successful online for a long time now. I don't think I'm dumb, I just haven't had success really. Just wanted to riff on some of my ideas below and see what you guys thought.

In online business, there seems to be a small number of ways in which 80% of people who are doing this are making money:

Consulting - SEO, Web design, logo design, social media etc.

Affiliate Marketing - You can earn a commission on most sites these days including Amazon

Physical Products - Amazon FBA and ecommerce seem to both be gaining a lot of traction these days

Information Products - Where the real $$$ is made

Entertainment - youtube, blogs etc. which are monetised either by info products or adsense

It seems that the people making the most money always seem to be the ones selling their info products on how to make money online. It's a huge growing market with insatiable demand.

For example, there's an SEO course which I'm a member of called OMG Machines. They have 2500 members in their Facebook group, possibly more paying members who don't have Facebook. They charged $5000 for the course which is a high end SEO course, and they upped the price to $7000 about 6 months ago, since which lots of people have joined. Even if we assume there are only 2500 members in total and all paid the lower price of $5000, that is a $12.5m revenue business which they've built. Very easy to understand how they're doing so well and making money...

While I've learned how to do SEO very well, it's actually really difficult to do anywhere near that amount of money with SEO.

Client consulting SEO is difficult to sell, with so many people competing with you. I think in particular in the UK I've found that people are less willing to pay even moderate amounts of money for SEO whereas in the US I think companies seem a bit more liberal about their spending, maybe the market is more lucrative over there.

Affiliate marketing doesn't seem to have the same margins as it once was. I've got a bit of experience with Adult and plenty of fish banner ads where I only made profit on maybe a couple of days, the margins are razor thin and you have to be optimised to perfection and send high volume in order to build direct relationships with the advertisers if you want even a chance to break even.

Physical products probably aren't all they cracked up to be. There are only a limited number of items which can be manufactured in China cheaply and white labelled and those items are going to become more and more saturated, the margins are going to get thinner and thinner.

Information products are probably the gold standard but most info products that are making good money are in make money online, dating, or fitness niches and everyone is trying to get into those niches.

I've had a few ideas for physical products and info products etc. which I considered pursuing, but when you take into account that if you get your traffic from google, you're looking at 30% of that hitting your website at best, 1% of those visitors converting, and maybe a 10-40% profit margin (on a physical product) you're not left with much.

Any time I try doing the maths on an idea, I can only conclude that my only option is to either try and rank for insanely competitive high volume keywords, or resign to earning a few hundred per month. The issue is further exasperated by much lower search volume in markets like the UK which I'm in.

Maybe I'm an extreme pessimist, or a maybe I'm a realist...

Yes I currently am. I am trying my best to duplicate/open up a similar revenue stream or two, Just so I am less reliant on the one I have now. I have a couple, but one specifically...by far....is my main earner/what allows me to not work other jobs and focus on the web.

I don't even care to make more than i am now, that's not the end goal of me trying to open up a couple new revenue streams now. Obviously that'd be nice, but really, I swear to jeebus himself, I only want to help solidify the success i've had. If one source dries up, I don't want to 'go broke'.

That being said, even knowing what I know now, striking half the success I've currently seen on my one site seems fuking next to impossible. You just have to keep going. But I swear to you, It's possible. Not only that, but my biggest earner is one of the most simple projects/ideas ive had. No chit. Just a solid niche and a 'product'/'service' that fits their needs, it really helps i think that I was the first real competitor that branded myself specifically for that niche that people were searching for.

I've identified a few similar niche-related keywords/targets and a similar, smaller market that I can effectively do the same for - And I'm working on ranking two seperate sites now for these in that effort of expanding my revenue streams. One of which has really got some killer links to a specific, different but good post I made. Like killer top tier tech news site dofollow links, and the site is fairly new, this was a few weeks ago - and honestly so far it doesn't seem to have helped rankings that much. BUT I KNOW IT DID/DOES, Google is just VERY SLOW in rankings and bringing you up. Your site now could be on track for #1 spot for your keyword(s) as it is, all the work could theoretically be DONE you have it PERFECTED but it can take MONTHS for you to creep up and actually get that #1 spot. Which is really what kills a lot of peoples ambition, But as you can see....this is what google wants. This is an important part of their algorithm. 99% of spam chit sites are "fly by night" so its one major way they help cut out on that crap

Tons of things work great for tons of people. I'm just speaking from my (lucky) perspective. But the truth is many people are making my earnings look like chump change in completely unrelated methods/tactics/ideas.

I think the #1 thing to take away from this all, the #1 thing, is MAKE SOMETHING THAT APPEALS TO PEOPLE. That people want or need. You just need to attract the person, learning and learning SEO/etc i think mainly means to get better at LEARNING WHAT PEOPLE WANT/NEED/LIKE/SHARE/BENEFIT FROM. That's it. Google's job is to help people find that kind of stuff as best as possible. OF COURSE things like on-site optimization and best protocols are important, inter-site linking, h1 tags, www. or no www. forced sitewide, faster page load times and all device optimization etc. all important. but beyond that, worry less about google and 'cheating them', and much more about just creating something unique and useful/something that people like. Put yourself in the searchers shoes, their perspective, for your specific target market. Show them what you would want to see in an ideal world.

pat flynn's "online business" is getting other people to sign up for his course in online business. he's never sold anything else, afaik.

It reminds me of a story I heard of a local guy that scammed a bunch of people out of money. he put an ad in the paper that said "learn how to make money" or something. all you had to do was send the guy $50. the morons that did got a letter back from him that said "do what i do".

That was exactly my point, that most people making decent money online are doing it that way.
