    Legend 3136

Long time reader, first time posting!

I hope the end of the world is treating everyone well, and everyone is being safe out there!

I have thoroughly read this Legend thread and was hoping some of you wiser gents than myself can assist. I am looking to pull the trigger on the Legend 3136 lat pull down. It fits my price range perfectly, and I do not mind dealing with the plates and the changing of cables to save a few bucks. But, my concerns are...

When using this for Triceps or bicep curls...are there any issues? I was hoping to use the lower cable for bicep\forearms, and even tricep kickbacks. Has anyone with this machine run into any snags with this? Same with the upper cable for tricep press downs. The seat may interfere a bit, but any snags I should be aware of?

I see CFF has this for $1550 shipped. I am waiting to hear back from Legend directly...but does anyone know if this is a decent price, or if I can get it better?

Thanks in advance to anyone that tries to help me!

Usually cheaper to go to legend directly. I have a selectorized version. You might top out the weight with push downs so you can add a short cable or chain.

ahh, gotcha. So, you are saying the cable might not be long enough for push downs...and adding a short cable will give you that little bit extra to have the full ROM? I am about 6'2", if that makes any difference in where I would be pulling from.

So, I haven't owned this machine specifically but I have owned a Bomb Proof design with similar specifications (weight carriage and everything). Can't imagine you would have issues with ROM during any movement, my suspicion is that Atty will confirm this given he owns that exact model. But with the one I owed it seemed nearly impossible to exceed the ROM for pulldown or pressdown movements, and that was without even using a small 6-8" chain to extend things.

I had read about the problem of topping out the stack before I bought the pull down. I had legend make me a short extension cable, but it’s about 18” and is too long. Anyway you can see in the pic that the stack is topping out and I’m not at the bottom of the movement. You can also see that I need to lift more. Be safe everyone.

Ok, cool, that is reassuring, thanks. I saw a picture of Atty's gym on this thread...amazing setup. That is where I got the idea about this exact model. (His pic is also on Legend's website) what brand/model do you have? I'm always looking for something comparable to get the best bang for my buck. EliteFTS Scholastic version, seems very compatible, but I couldnt find many reviews on it, and I trust the Legend brand more.

Yes you cannot go wrong with Legend. There are a few other posters that have the 3136. Curious to see about pushdowns on them.

Oh wow, I see what you mean. thanks for the picture showing me the ROM issue. I am curious too, now, what other users say about the 3136. I guess, I could make my own makeshift chain to get the right length, but, it would be nice to not after dropping this much cash for a machine.

Great machine you have, by the way. Part of me wants to get the Legend 3228, but it's more than double the Legend 3136, and I dread having to ever move it. Plus, I am too frugal and it's a hard justification I need to make with myself. lol : )

I have not on triceps push downs. If I could fit the 3136 in my Legend rack, I would try bicep curls. Lol. Seriously, I have not tried bicep curls, as I have all the York dumbbells I could ever use and York and Ivanko curl bars.

I have a 3103 bench and a very small gym (10x12). With the wheel guards on the mat, I can lean the pads against the wall. That is about the only way to store the bench vertically. I store the bench vertically inside my rack when working outside the rack, and I store it vertically near the gym door when I am working inside the rack.

Should I upgrade to the 12 inch wide pad? I pretty much exclusively stick to incline pressing with both bar balls and dumbbells.

Sometimes I still think about the 3103, what a great bench.

I vote to leave the pad alone, the width is fine for pressing movements. (IMO)

I agree with urbanlifter. The standard pad is fine as is.

A wide pad is fine for a flat bench used for bench press. Not so much for a multipurpose bench like the 3103.

You say that about every bench you've had and sold.

Back to the topic: I have the rep wide pad for benching and prefer a wider one for that. Have the IM Pro for DB work and don't mind the narrow pad at all.

When you have excellent taste in equipment but a desire to try new stuff, that tends to happen

I put my Rep wide pad on my Ethos bench, so I picked up a 12" Rep pad for my FB-5000. Feels better than my 10" Dynamic bench pad for dumbbell stuff, but obviously that's going to depend on the individual.

And especially in camo, no one will even notice the difference in pad width...

I'm likely to buy another Legend 3103 in the future, or I guess I should say the knockoff version.......LOL

At $349 shipped or even lower during BF sales it's a phenomenal second bench to have lying around.

Legendary bump, sent off for a quote today while I'm waiting on REP's HR-5000, if they could punch some holes in the sides for my Mono's I'd seriously consider something from Legend. Basically asked them for this rack in the same color scheme (no lower crossmember bar storage).

I wonder if they could move those cross member bar storages in a bit and it would give you a nice place for a dbl landmine
