Africa(outside of South Africa) is a continent of nations that average on the extremely poor side in every facet of life. People there live in dirty and poverty conditions. Clean water is a luxury, people still live in villages, sanitation is extremely poor, people sleep where they chit. That makes for the perfect type of condition for diseases like Ebola to Survive and thrive in.
It doesn't help that the incubation period is 2-21 days, mainly until the 6-9 day range to know that you've got it.

Just some perspective

Heart disease is pretty much an individuals choice to not do cardio(but mah gainz) and eat like crap. Being fat just makes it much easier to die from that. Cancer and alzheimers is genetic mostly so its not preventable, nothing we can do. Influenza doesn't have a 50% mortality rate, if your healthy you won't have trouble fighting it off.

Ebola is a virus like influenza(not airborne completely yet, but could happen anyday) and is completely preventable.

It's like saying, we can put a bullet in a revolver, spin the cylinder and pull the trigger every 20 years aiming at your head. But because we are more likely to die from something else before we die from the bullet there is no reason not to play this fun game. If something poses a massive risk if it starts spreading exponentially and is preventable why even play around. Stop it before it even has the chance of doing anything. But at the same time being afraid of that small risk is almost as bad as allowing it. Panic isn't good when it comes to making rational decisions.

Ebola is transferred from animals as well. Fruit bats is what began this whole thing. A 3 year old little African girl was playing with a fruit bat that had Ebola. She got it, then her family, then the village, and so on.

How exactly do you plan to just close off West Africa and make Ebola stop spreading? Do you really believe border controls in the surrounding countries are up to par? Do you really think you can restrict every flight? We may restrict flights coming in from West Africa, but what if Belgium hasn't yet? Or Germany? or Ireland? Then what? It will still be spread. You want to stop it? Attack it at the source. Send enough doctors and nurses and medical supplies and equipment over, and keep them there. Do not bring them about. Keep them there fighting it.

I've been saying this since Ebola came out. Just because we are a 1st world country does not mean we can just make Ebola disappear from people with the wave of a magic wand. A person infected with Ebola will at least require 8-12 medical personnel at their attention. Someone with Ebola is constantly chitting themselves, bleeding everywhere, light headed, dehydrated, has trouble breathing, constantly sweating. There must always be doctors and nurses on stand by and on watch to try and properly combat someone with Ebola. We are not equipped to be able to handle 3000-5000 cases of Ebola, we are just better equipped then West African nations. We are stretching our medical field extremely thin at that point, and it becomes extremely hard to contain and stop.

Every disease outbreak starts with a small amount, the problem is the number of deaths is increasing exponentially, about 1000 new cases last week, probably will be about 1000-1500 new cases this week and it will continues to grow

Ebola had its first outbreak in Africa in the 70's. There was a reported 1,716 cases at the time.

People are alarmed now, because for one, news can travel much easier with all the social media and technology today, and 2) there have been a total of around 8,300 suspected cases of Ebola reported. In a day and age, where our medical knowledge, technology, and equipment is better than it was 40 years ago, it alarms people that an outbreak of this proportion is happening.
