I think in hindsight Haney would have carried on (knowing what Ronnie did). Could be just me but I'd say he wasn't using the same type of stuff as the competitors in the mid/late 90s plus he still had that idea that a tight waist was what was required.
Into the 90s, the tight waists were still there but not quite the same as the 80s and prior (vacuum mostly). I think if Haney would have been willing to goto the next level and quit trying to have a super slim waist, he could have gotten even bigger and potentially beat Dorian for a few more years.
As mentioned, at 30 odd, most guys are nowhere near their full potential so to retire then is pretty crazy, even though at the time it wasn't so crazy.

So, I take it no pro has ever won more than Benaziza's six pro wins? Vince Taylor equaled it in 1991 and also had a 2nd, two 3rds and a 5th (Taylor has 22 career pro wins). Big Ronnie has the most career pro wins (26), but his most wins in a year is five in 1998.
Taylor's wins.
1991 Arnold Classic - IFBB, 3rd
1991 Grand Prix Denmark - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix England - IFBB, 2nd
1991 Grand Prix Finland - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Italy - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Spain - IFBB, Winner
1991 Grand Prix Switzerland - IFBB, Winner
1991 Ironman Pro Invitational - IFBB, 5th
1991 Mr. Olympia - IFBB, 3rd
1991 Pittsburgh Pro Invitational - IFBB, Winner
Big Ronnie.
1998 Night of Champions
1998 Toronto Pro Invitational
1998 Mr. Olympia
1998 Grand Prix Finland
1998 Grand Prix Germany

^^
The best single year is definitely not just about who's won the most contests. It's the quality too.
Who has the best year - a guy who wins 3 smaller shows in a year or Phil Heath winning one Olympia in that same year? I know what I'd pick as being better/more successful..IG: waldronconstruction

When did the AC become the second biggest bodybuilding show? Mid 90s or thereabouts?
We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.
You can't stop us. You can't hold us back.
IFBB brahs über alles.

It would still be nice IMO to see the top Pros do multiple contests in a year.
This new trend is, win 1 show and get into the O and it's good...inb4 Sheru and AC Europe...BS cash grabs imho.
Anyone will tell you Kai>Phil at AC Europe last year...even some Phil fans...just sayin'Last edited by Canuck77; 06-27-2014 at 06:15 PM.
