I'm kinda limited to working out.. what I mean by that is i'm not super-rich. Got a few budgets I got to meet and I don't have cash to buy a gym membership (at least not right now.) Also, where i'm at we're already heading towards triple digits. My workout routines (a minimum of 3 days a week) are getting interrupted. Yes, I slack sometimes because I been in and out of it lately. Too hot, job and just put the towel down. However, I still love working out. The hot weather is burning when I go outside and run. Even though I put sunscreen I come back toasted.
So i'm thinking maybe I should buy a treadmill and set it up at home so I can get my cardio in. I been wanting a treadmill anyways. I have to run/ jog. I don't need anything fancy on the machine besides a solid machine. I don't need extra miscellaneous stuff on it.
I just want to jog/ run or walk on it. For hefty days mainly. But since summer is here I don't want to slack off until summer is over. I do want a machine that has at least a monitor to say how far I ran or jogged. That's pretty much it. I have my own boom box for music, weights and water bottle.
Also what speeds should a treadmill have for a good workout? I seen most of them have a 10 mph. Is that fair?
Also how long should a treadmill be? I know some treadmills that are cheap are small unless its OK?
I looked at these:
Weslo Cadence R 5.2 Treadmill: $369.99
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Weslo-Cade...dmill/22750833

The easy-to-read LCD display tracks your speed, time, distance and calories burned
16" x 51" walking treadbelt
Workout smoother and quieter than the average treadbelt with this roomy, durable treadbelt
Weight capacity: 250 pounds
or
Gold's Gym Trainer 420 Treadmill: $377.00
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gold-s-Gym...dmill/27407264
2.5 CHP G-Force motor built for extended use
Space saver design
18" x 50" treadbelt
300 lbs weight capacity
16 workout applications
5" x 7" LCD display window
0 to 10 MPH speed range
0 to 10 percent incline range
iPod compatible with Intermix Acoustics 2.0 sound system
Dual-grip heart rate monitor
Race track style display
AirStride Plus cushioning reduces impact on your joints
Unless someone has a better recommendation? I'm hoping not to go over $1K. Something that I can just run/ jog and track distance calories if possible. If not it doesn't really matter. As long as its solid. The whole ipod and speaker thing is not even necessary since I have my own boombox. Thanks for any helP!
If I can decide something reasonable I can go buy it today.
(or wait and do a little more research)

Look on your local craigslist. You can def get a used commercial model for under a grand. Don't waste your hard earned money on any of those ones you listed.

Those are all crap. The best used noncommercial treadmill under $1000 would be a Sole F63 or F80. And they go for more than the new crap you are looking at. Rethink joining a gym.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I agree with Atty...I would seriously think of joining a gym...so many gyms are in their slow period of sales at the moment (as opposed to the New Years resolution folk who
flood the gyms in January and are gone by March) so many have huge sales to attract new customers...try and avoid those ones with huge sign up fees...often they advertise
$9.99 a month but don't tell you there is a one time sign up fee of $200.
I'd be willing to bet you can join a local gym by the month or per year for less than you'd pay for some POS treadmill from Wallmart...and those "reviews" are usually B.S
and not done by people who actually use them or what the hell "good" really is.
To quote Tommy Boy..."You could get a good look at a T-Bone by sticking your head up the cows a$$, but wouldn't you rather just take the butchers word for it".
Joining a good health club you are guaranteed to have access to top level treadmills, weights bikes etc.
Just my opinion Mate."Common sense is not so common".

I agree Walmart doesn't carry a treadmill that an adult male can run on without breaking. If all you want is a high quality treadmill in air conditioning, planet fitness might be perfect for you. For ten bucks a month you get a good treadmill and free pizza once a week.
Pretty much the only thing that could get me in a commercial gym again is if I should ever desire more formal cardio in my life. I've got a stationary bike at home and it works well for what I want to do but it isn't enough for the hours of cardio I would need should I want to get "stage ready". Good cardio machines are a lot more expensive than I want to pay I would join the cheap gym and get my work in.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

Honestly listen to these members they are 100% spot on. When i first started looking for gym equipment on a budget i looked at the box store equipment like Walmart. It seems ok at first then after doing some research and taking the advice from forum members i'm getting the powertec multi gym. I cant afford a new one but used i can swing it. Looking back now that stuff i looked at at the box stores is really bad stuff comparing to the good equipment even used. In short best advice i got here is buy the quality equipment used they are affordable or join a gym.Last edited by Snailman44; 06-07-2014 at 07:49 PM.

Where are you located? Is the craigslist market bad where you are for used treadmills? I bought my precor 9.23 used (only 5 miles) and had it for 7 years now with only one repair needed for less than 100 bucks. You don't necessarily need a gym membership you just have to look around and be patient. For 900 bucks over 7 years I will take that any day. If/when my treadmill goes out I will probably buy new.
FYI, if you are looking on craigslist I would look for these brands in no particular order: Precor, True, Landice, Sole (I'm not a fan but still decent quality), and Star Trac (these are usually refurbished and used in gyms).
Lastly, make sure the treadmill uses a 110v not a 220v for plug in or else you will need to update your outlet to use the machine.Continually searching for that elusive runners high!

The first treadmill you linked is a walking treadmill. The second one is only a little better for running. It won't be fun. You probably are thinking that any treadmill you pick up will be more or less like one at the gym. They aren't. The cheap ones have a small belt, both length and width, and you're going to be slipping on the edges.
