I do...yep I am female. Hubby and I, since high school, have worked out together (it was a good thing taking a pulldown bar to the eye socket waaay back then didn't deter me from the gym). Although I am overweight now (rectifying it) When I was in excellent shape I became a trainer....He still has me make the plans up. He trusts me to spot him over others. In past years we did martial arts together and still spar. We both take it seriously and we both have fun! I think the gym over the years has done nothing but strengthen our relationship....together since 89 (at 16y/o) married nearly 21 years!
It's never too late to become the fit, healthy person you were meant to be!

I work out at home and the wife has to spot me for bench press. We've already covered "don't count out loud, it is distracting" and "don't rip the bar out of my hands when I start to struggle because you are stealing my gains". She has also learned to yell "that was all you" and "you nailed it" after tough sets. She has also learned not to say "that looks like a lot of weight, I won't be able to pick that up off of you".

My wife and I are typically working at the same time in our home gym, however we're focused on different things. My half rack has spotters so I don't require a spot. She knows my routine fairly well and how to avoid getting hit by a moving olympic bar as I know how to stay out of her way as well. We especially try to make time to go for a light cardio walk at least 2 or 3 times a week together as well.
I feel being focused on fitness, health, and strength together has made us stronger as well.
I just wish we could get her squat form straightened out.()---() York Barbell Club #26 ()---()

My wife and I have done the same workout from day 1. We both needed to get in shape, and she despises cardio. Seeing the bodies of the women who lift, compared to the ones that run all the time, she said "I want to lift. Not just that circuit stuff either. I want to bench, squat, and deadlift." She's a keeper.

My wife and I worked out together up until she had a surgery that has taken her out of commission for at least another 6 weeks. I stayed with it, and now she's excited to get started back, as she's seeing results from what I am doing...
Ground rules:
1. No cellphone allowed in the shop/gym.
2. No gossip allowed in the shop/gym.
3. No hanky panky in the shop/gym - just kidding. That's great cardio.

For all the comedians let me rephrase...
Anyone train with or train their mate?
I just started with mine and I'm finding out it takes PATIENCE! I don't want to do it that way, I don't like that position etc blah blah blah.
Last night even went as far as saying the person on the picture(machine) don't have their hands in that position. UGHH I was seriously ready to walk out!
I've been at this several yrs and know what I'm talking about plus trained with a few BB's. I'm trying to help you to loose weight & get toned.
Trying to hang in there...Last edited by Carloscda; 06-05-2014 at 08:38 AM.

I do and it's great because we do the same workouts. Currently doing a three day split but we talked about how much we both like the 5x5 and are going to be going back to that soon. Helps that both of us have competed in the past and she works harder than 90% of the guys in the gym. I trust her to spot me and she trusts me enough to listen about her form.
It's not your beliefs that make you a better person, it's your behavior.

I never wanted to because I thought - its going to be 3 workouts tops before she is asking me "wouldn't it be better for you to do this, this way?". "Why do we have to do it that way?" or saying "I like this excersize better can WE do these instead?" or the coup de grace "I want to go home now can we leave?"
My wife decided it would be good for her to train with me once so we did this workout (she hadn't lifted in many years before it).
Warm-up
3 second pause squats as many sets as it requires to do 60 reps.
Walking lunges - as many sets as it requires to complete one lap of a 200 meter track (9 was the lowest # of sets this ever took for me).
Romanian Deadlifts 4 sets of 8
Leg Extensions 5 sets
Hamstring Curls 5 sets
To her credit she made it through the whole thing. I admit not having barbell hack squats or front squats as part of this was a mistake. But not enough of a mistake that she ever came again. Its not enough!

I feel your pain OutdoorsinCO
My wife thinks I should go to the gym when it fits her schedule (so I can do more chores around the house and spend more family time) and still look like I did when I was 27-28...I tried explaining the difference between natural and "enhanced" and after that she still thought its possible for me to quickly get back to 250 at about 12-15% bodyfat...because then all I have to do is "maintain." Of course its "easy" to maintain 250@15% and then I can eat a "normal" diet. I sometimes struggle to get enough calories everyday during a bulk now...yesterday I was 100 below maintenance Time for a double cheesburger lunch :/Its not enough!

After about six months my current gf told me "I'd like to spend more time together." So I told her "Come to the gym with me."
Two months later and she DLed 135x5 last night, awww yeah.
I took a lot of information from this: http://jtsstrength.com/articles/2014...ng-tips-women/
* Lots of positive reinforcement, don't go negative.
* Give her space to vent and complain a little, but not quit.
* Lead by example. Lead with the scheduling. Proactive, etc.
* Emphasize self-improvement. Do not compare/contrast with other women in the gym.
* Throw in some fun 'couples' work at the end, like the leg throwdowns here: http://previsecare.wordpress.com/201...-your-partner/
* Emphasize the 'team' aspect to it to assuage her fears of 'competing' against you.
e: one more - Be social with other gym couples you run into. Weightrooms tend to be overrun with solo dudes, it'll help her feel a bit more normal/at-ease.Last edited by MoldyGopher; 06-05-2014 at 12:02 PM.
330->210. Drop me a PM if you're just getting started and want some advice.
Do what you love and you'll never workout a day in your life.

My wife and I workout together in our home gym and do cardio too, actually have her doing hill sprints. She trusts my plans, though I have to send her some articles and papers as proof every now and then. I think the biggest thing to stopping the arguments is my own consistency and results. Its hard to argue too much with something she sees working. She still throws fits at times and looks at me like I crazy when I up her weight in a lift, but I just let her get it out of her system and then she trucks on.

We did a few times, but she thinks I look funny when lifting...she may be right. Also, she thinks hip thrusts look kinda obscene and her idea of a face pull is grabbing my ears during sex. So, now, I go the gym alone.
I do face pulls because I want my shoulders to love me.

I tried... it didn't turn out very well. She wants to be with me by my side the entire time. But refuses to lift any free weights. She just wants to play on the machines on a weight so light she just slings it around. She won't do them unless I stand right beside her. And I can never give her any advice or she will get all pissed off at me.
Oh yeah and after the workouts she brags constantly about how easy the workout is. But then complains later how she is not seeing any changes.
