TURO - anyone use it? I'm planning to post my car up

    https://turo.com/us/en

I've never used in on the customer side, I use Costco and get rentals for $30/ day.

But w/ working from home, my car is just... sitting here, as I pay insurance and make payments?

Anyone been a host before with their car?

I plan to sign up and price it aggressively. I have a 2016 Mazda 6, Grand Touring, Should get approx $45-50 a day

No, they are used to pound on or for something you wouldn’t want to do in your own. Someone I know used one to pick up a puppy and it chit all over the back. He said he went to a self serve car wash and opened the back seats and sprayed it out. Too high risk. I usually buy new and keep for a long time

    appreciate the feedback. Repped.

I "like" my car, but it's far from a total dream car. I'm putting like 20 miles a week on it.

I looked at selling it but this market is crappy, as expected.

    Yes, it sucks.

I've rented Z06 Vettes, Vipers, a "500whp" R32 Golf, and 911's.. Most of the time the renter is some jerk off who can't afford their payment and needs assistance by renting out their pride and joy. I've walked out on a couple rentals after meeting the owner too, as I could just tell I'm walking into a trap.. The Viper guys have been cool, the 911 guys are 50/50.

My friend has rented 3 different Nissan GTR's. All three had clearly been detuned with a safe-mode map flashed onto the ECU. Totally killing the experience. The last one he returned 10 minutes after driving off. All three GTR rentals the ad claims "600hp", 0-60 and all this glory but it's never been the truth.

What you rent from Turo is the owner, not the car. You'll always get different personalities. A few of the guys have their own personal fleets where I'd pull up to their house and there would be 15 cars out there all in the driveway and the streets. Their neighbors hate them.

One renter was keeping tabs on my buddy by texting him all throughout the night.. "Oh I see you're at the lake! Have fun out there!" "Hey I noticed you're on the I-17 north, where are you taking the car?"

Lots of clunkers on there too demanding a high premium... Most of the time, it's a crap experience. With that said, we have had a couple good rentals where the owner and his car were great. The GTR guys are by far, without question the worst. Followed by the Corvette/Camaro dudes... Biggest douche was an AMG GT dude who had no business being in Turo.

^ reps on recharge. very helpful, thx man.

I've noticed that, on certain reviews, some ppl sound like complete tools.

I've taken enough UBers to know it really is about the experience, and I'll tailor it that way. Thx

You seem to be renting an ordinary car, treat it that way. You're not sitting on a pot of gold. Be friendly and cool. Rock chips happen, dents and dings don't. Do your due diligence. If you notice the guy who wants to rent your car is a scumbag, send him off by telling him something happened to the car or something.

LOL. I work from home. Make a good salary. Don't HAVE TO COMMUTE ANYMORE for the forseeable future.

Car note is $290 a month. If i can make $250/ mo with this app, with minimal effort, pays down the note almost completely. I'm just doing my due diligence so I don't get bent over like your sweet, sweet mother.

i wouldnt have put it so brashly, but this guy is pretty much correct
its one thing to have a car that you bought just to rent it out, but to rent out your personal car to strangers is just insane. i cant even fathom the mind of a person who would do such a thing.

Thanks for your take on it. I get it if it's a performance car. I see a guy's Corvette Stingray for $150 a day and I'll prob. rent that bad boy soon.

But this is a Mazda 6. Kelly blue book right now is $13k. I might be pointing like 1000 miles on it for the next 6 months. So it's just burning a hole in my wallet w/ insurance and payments.

you got to expect the worse, when you go to the grocery store do you really want to drive a car that's had a bunch of strangers use it, prob got boogers and bodily fluids scattered everywhere, do you want to worry about the reliability of a car that's been dogged by a bunch of strangers that week. not worth it if its your only car regardless of how much its worth.

I'd like to add something OP.. Your car being a 2016 is fairly old for rental status. Somebody can rent a 2019/2020/2021 for $45-50 all day and it would most likely be nicer than your Mazda 6... All the major companies rent cars for as cheap as $15-18 per day and they can pick up from the airport. Easy peasy convenience. You'd be limited to local people mainly and even then it may be difficult to find renters.

You might fantasizing a little too much with thinking you'll be getting that much for your car. Either way, it doesn't hurt to try.

I don't think people go on turo to rent a Mazda 6

I could just go to enterprise and rent a car for 20/day, would rather work with a big company and have peace of mind than a random dude renting out their car on turo

Turo charges random extra **** too, brb have to wash the car before you return it? da fk?

    For example

Just went on Turo and types in Chicago, IL

First thing that popped up was a Yaris for $27/day + $81 in estimated fees lmao, wtf are these fees?

    Then I scroll down

$80 prepaid refuel fee (in what world does it cost $80 to fill up a yaris)?

$30 post trip cleaning fee...ayylmao, I don't remember enterprise ever charging me a fee for that

And this particular car is 200 miles a day included, enterprise is unlimited miles

Other than people wanting to test drive cool cars, I don't know how turo is still alive

any thoughts on a more niche category, like a 8 seater suv good for road trips/camping (land cruiser). I doubt anyone renting that for a family trip would bag on it.

What year? LC would be nice... I'd personally be tempted to exercise it's 4x4 capabilities... When my friends and I rent a car, we use them to their full potential (and some).

But w/ working from home, my car is just... sitting here, as I pay insurance and make payments?

Anyone been a host before with their car?

I plan to sign up and price it aggressively. I have a 2016 Mazda 6, Grand Touring, Should get approx $45-50 a day
I think you are gonna have a hard time renting your car to tourists for 30-50 when people can get a mustang for like 10 more or an corvette for like 70 a day.

    I don't think it's worth it honestly.

Totally agree with this. I use costco discounts when I travel and have been happy with renting from traditional companies. BUT... there are ppl out there who love Apps and will do it just to be, different I guess?

I'm trying it , and if nothing happens for a few weeks, oh well. it cost me 45 mins to take some pics and tupe up some info.

Good points of view from yall.

Def. a market for this. Rental co. charge noticeably high prices for mini vans and Suv's, do a quick search and you might be able to get $60+ a day

It would be a good way to make money if you could trust the people but fuk that. Its only 4-5 years old and if you took good care of it and barely drive it, lower mileage? I wouldnt trust them from wrecking your chit.

have to look into what you really get too. If you rent it out on turo for 40 a day what do you get of the 40 and what about the extra fees what percent do you get of a gas refill fee ect.
