This Spurs team is not that great, as in this roster this year is not an all-time great team. Their legacy and continuity over the years is remarkable, but let's be real...this isn't even the greatest Spurs team of this Dunca-led era.
In short, it is a false comparison, because it is not as if Lebron is taking on the greatest Spurs team, but a very efficient model of it.
This year's spurs are led in scoring by Parker, Duncan and Leonard at 16, 15, and 12.8 per game. Rebounds by Duncan and Leonard/Splitter with 9.7 and 6. Assists by Parker at 5.7.
now, as to the comparison...Jordan DID beat those teams listed at their best.
1991 Lakers 58-24 record- All in their primes Magic (19/12.5/7), Worthy (21/4.6), Perkins (13.5/7.4), Scott (14.5), Divac (11/8), Green (9/6).
1992 Blazers 57-25 record- All in their primes Drexler (25/6.6/6.7), Porter (18/5.8), Kersey (12.6/8), Williams (11/8.8), Duckworth (10.7/6), Robinson (12.4/5), Ainge (9.7).
1993 Suns 62-20 record- All Prime (MVP)Barkley (25.6/12/5), Majerle (16.9/4.7/3.8), KJ (16/8), Dumas (15.8/4.6), Ceballos (12.8/5.5), Chambers (12/4.7), Ainge (11.8/3).
1996 Sonics 64-18 record- All Prime Kemp (19.6/11), Payton (19/7.5/4/2.9steals), Schrempf (17/5/4), Hawkins (15.6/3.6), and a 34 y/o Perkins (11.8/4.5).
1997 Jazz 64-18 record with Older Prime (stats hadn't dipped) (MVP) Malone (27/9.9/4.5), Hornacek (14.5/4.4), Stockton (14.4/10.5), Russell (10.8/4.1), and Ostertag (7/7).
In sum, the the Bulls beat teams with equal or better records. Every team had players that scored more PPG. Every team had better rebounders (minus the Lakers). Every team had players better at distributing assists. I'd delve into defensive efficiency too, but those state are shameful during the same year, let alone comparing them across eras.
This isn't a knock against SAS. They're a great team trying to write an amazing end to their legacy, but they aren't even at their best. Please stop with this arbitrary and inaccurate bullsh8t and just enjoy the playoffs.
