If you look around the internet a little you can pick up a 10% off coupon. I don't have my belt yet but my interactions with CS and their honesty on their IG leads me to feel very good about them as a brand. Plus with the IG pictures I can see their quality so my belt will be nice.

I noticed recently that the Amazon market for lever belts has EXPLODED! Tons of new brands out there, but one in particular that caught my eye was from RDX. I have purchased some thing from RDX before and the 1 ft spring for my boxing setup was top notch. They have a belt that looks pretty dangerous for only $49.99 shipped, probably nowhere near as refined as Pioneer but it makes you wonder if places are closing the gap. Nice to see more buckle options out there as well, wouldn't mind spicing up my boring Inzer lever with something cooler looking.

I hope it becomes like the hybrid holster market did. The nicest holster I ever bought was a horse hide backed crossbreed knockoff from ebay. It cost half what the big guys charged and had way more attention to detail.

Tons of brands, but most are probably the same exact belts but just sold under a different importers name. Ebay has a lot, too. You can tell that some sellers use the same stock photos. (they often tilt them so they don't look exactly like the others.) And they have poor ad copy. (ALL CAPS are my words)

Professional style power lifting belt is ideal for endurance training (ENDURANCE TRAINING?)
Made with unique oil tanned highly absorbent nubuck leather. (IS HIGHLY ABSORBENT A GOOD THING?)
Leather power lifting belt is ideal for power lifting, body building or general back support (FAIR ENOUGH)
Advance lever closure belt can be loosened in less than a second.
Does not turn overly soft and fold over as another brand's to do (TO DO? TO DO WHAT?)

to be fair, the RDX belt is embossed so it's at least a little different.

seems to me like doing a little research answered your question.

If you need one fast amazon sells Titan belts through a third party lifting large if I recall. That's how I bought my first belt because I wanted one right away.

Rep Premium Belt. Crazy price. 64% of the cost of the comparable Rogue belt. No price increase for larger sizes.

    https://www.repfitness.com/rep-premi...r-lifting-belt

Direct Comparison to Rogue's. Glued and double stitched, edges, etc. Looks like a stellar option for a lower cost belt with immediate availability. Would be interested to hear if anyone picks one up.

Looks like it's two layers of leather. Probably tooling leather? Would be interesting to compare it to some of the other suedeless belts.

Just got one yesterday.. Its my first belt so I have nothing to compare it to but the quality seems good. The leather is not as stiff as I thought it would be even though it is pretty thick. I tried it today to see how it feels and I like it.I tried a few squats and I found it to very helpful . I also did a few deadlifts and although it pinches a little,it was still pretty comfortable. I don't think it will take long to fully break in as the leather is pretty soft. It has some sort of covering over the edges which I'm assuming to keep moisture out .

Again, this is my first time using a belt but so far so good and I like the belt. We will see how it goes in the long run. I also bought a Repfitness Gladiator bar and gun rack for bar storage. All the products seem very good quality.

Thanks for the pictures! That sounds like belly leather. I can't help but wonder if it's from Weaver Leather.

That edging is super shiny, lol! Hard to tell for sure, but your pictures actually look like it's two pieces of belly leather sandwiched between two thin pieces of garment leather.

You may be right.. Had some Amazon gift card money left over from the Gladiator bar so I figured I would give the belt a shot..Never had or used one before so didn't want to spend a ton..Time will tell if the belt is as good as it looks

My Pioneer belt came in last week basically a month from order date even over the holidays in their rush. the quality is as expected and is fantastic. I switched it from a 10 to a 13mm belt mid process and my changes were made perfectly. Very happy with it and looking forward to actually using it instead of just looking at it.

It is just a basic belt with my name embroidered above the lever though.

    Huge disappointment.....

There was a thread over at the Starting Strength forum that I had bookmarked for reference....I believe it was cmarti's initial review of General Leathercraft.. It was very informative with Matt from Pioneer adding a lot of info but it seems to have been deleted. I wanted to revisit it because of some info that I think was in that thread that may be pertinent to an issue I have now

Yeah, Starting Strength has unfortunately turned into a really crappy forum over the past year. They've been banning users and deleting threads and posts left and right.

Me and some of the other members started our own forum. We did a belt giveaway with Pioneer, then Rip and Reynolds acted without a shred of professionalism towards Matt and are now deleting every reference to Pioneer and banning people for even recommending them.

    Really sad.

Anyway, the thread is archived until like mid 2016 on the way back machine. Anything I might be able to answer for you?

Damm that is some petty stuff from them. Too bad, that was an epic thread but glad it's archived.

I just remember that there was a couple guys that also have the 13mm treated belt and felt the layers slide around one another a bit. Think one of them emailed Pioneer about it and said it was normal. Just wanted to go back and confirm my memory on that because my belt started to do that as well. Not a biggie for now, I got an untreated 10mm from Pioneer back in December and been using that over the 13mm treated

Yeah that whole situation is pretty ridiculous. I got to see all the emails back and forth, plus the phone calls... I'll never send anyone to SS again. Ever.

And only the first 50-something pages are archived unfortunately, it's missing a year and a half of posts.

I do vaguely remember that part of the that though. I think they got that answer from a person answering the phone, not Matt directly. The layers shouldn't be sliding against each other I don't believe... Mine aren't. I'd hit him up about it and see what he says, then update this sticky.

I'm all about protecting your own interests but something about Rip always rubbed me the wrong way, seems very resistant to change and flexibility.

I can't speak to the belt/forum issue but for some context on this point:

    1) People get more set in their ways as they get older. His way works, better than most and equal to any but not the only way. I don't think he'd argue that. Lots of ways to skin a cat.

    2) You have to remember that since early 1980s the entire fitness industry was basically BS. I started training around 1988-89 and for years no one squatted and it wasn't until the late 1990s that deadlifting started to get done again (this is outside S&C but permeated that group too). Olympic lifting was dead. Crossfit and Rip brought a lot of that stuff back but that's recent and it took effort. Access to good training knowledge and programming is broadly available now. If someone is motivated and of average intelligence they will get a good plan and info together...back in the day - it was nearly unfindable unless you ran into OL/PL or S&C crowd. Just not available to the masses as Weider et al were busy selling bunk with juiced to the gills guys promoting it. Spend a few decades in that paradigm and having to rationalize/explain it to every 13 year old pencil neck kid who won't listen anyway...kind of burns you out.

    3) The whole deal gets very specialized and sport/individual specific past a certain point. One thing you pick up over time is that there's really no magic bullet. Never has been - no secret Bulgarian uber technique...just a different way to skin a cat. Magic for one guy causes regression on another. Hell, some guys can nail 1RM lifts frequently while others burn to the ground under the same yet have the same training level and maxes. It comes down to real fine tuning which is done 1:1 rather than through the masses. At that point there's really no theory but finding what works within a generally applicable paradigm. One of the best forums on the net used to be the old Go Heavy OL forum. You'd never know as it was a bunch of coaches shooting the sh**, but if someone asked something (rare) they'd get a really good answer. All those guys had their own favorite methods and success with pools of athletes but they also all understood there were plenty of ways to go about it (as long as one wasn't truly dumb - and hell even that can work with perseverance at times).

Anyway - Rip lived through that for decades/most of his life. We all take for granted that pushing up your 5RM or 5x5RM or 5x3RM in the squat, bench, dead, etc...is a damn good plan and you eat according to goals. That was simply not the case for a very long time. Nautilus, Weider, and the fitness/supplement industry killed a lot in an effort to rake in money from the masses - think about how many motivated kids they screwed over and who ended up unnecessarily turning to drugs, this is not ok. You spend that much time listening to **** or hearing people argue about stuff that we know doesn't work well like it's a religion (HIT cough cough) and you tend to be fairly selective in who you bother listening to.

Actually, no, he absolutely claims "his way" is the best, bar none. That they're the only ones examining the process and improving upon it. It's ludicrous, but that's what's happening over there.

This is all off-topic for the thread at hand, but even Mike T made a video calling out Rip after he said a bunch of stupid stuff last year. I'm telling you this as someone with thousands of posts on that forum.

Interesting, wouldn't have guessed that. I know Rip, met years ago when he was releasing original SS as a coaches' manual. We spoke on-off for a decade shooting the sh** on various topics (economics, gvt policy, and S&C). We haven't spoken in a few years, been meaning to reach out but life is busy, and other than reading an occasional Facebook piece I don't really follow much. This is at odds with what I recall but things change and I don't have any context outside of personal interaction. I've read enough of your posts that I know you are pretty legit so I give credit to what you are saying.

Things are definitely different now from then. Once upon a time he took constructive criticism and feedback to refine his opinions or writing. Lately though it's been the exact opposite, literally mocking, belittling, and banning/blocking anyone that doesn't outright agree with him, even on topics he used to claim no knowledge/authority.

The quality of the last year or so of new SSCs is laughable, and the best coaches he has are either leaving or being pushed out because they don't agree with him on many topics, especially anything outside the realm of literal novice training.

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, it doesn't seem like it should be right, the 13mm double suede and the 10mm untreated leather belts doesn't have this issue

Been reading up, but I am getting an awful headache.

I would really like to get a pioneer belt. They seem highly recommended.

I want 4 inch wide 10 mm thick.

I also wanted it in leather. I was under the impression this was the best way to go, but they only seem to have them in suede.

Is this considered as good as leather?

I don't know about suede being as "good" as leather, but I do know that suede provides more customization (embroidery and colour). I would try emailing them to see what they can do for you. If you get a lever belt, see if they can do the taper like this one:

Some previous posters have reported minor pinching issues with the 13mm lever belts, but I haven't had any with mine because it has the taper.
