Very broadly speaking, what is considered "standard" sometimes comes from an organization (and sometimes is preceded by tradition), but has also been determined (to some extent or another) by manufacturers. For a variety of reasons (sometimes mordita to the organization) or through collaboration (in the neutral sense) with that organization. Finally, by geography. And of course sometimes geography dictates whether it's kilos or pounds (and before that there's even a history of different systems of measurement before kilos took effect -- e.g. Germany, France, Russia). Finally, the sort of false equivalence of standards for pounds and kilos (i.e. making the 55 red to "match" the 25 kilo plate). Not to mention that there were various sizes plates up through the past 100 years in imperial: both the 45 and the 50. And there were advocates on both sides. And that's just plates. Bars is a whole other story.
Having said that, of those countries using pounds (or formerly using pounds), can anyone point to a particular specification and the year that specification was written to designate color for plates in pounds?

Was searching for a set of adjustable dumbbells for a year in my home area (Pittsburgh). Only a marginal set or even single dumbbell of Powerblocks. Finally a 130lbs Powerblock and stand set comes up - I buy. Literally a few weeks later a full set of Ironmasters to 125. None of these were priced well but decently off retail and available. Feast of famine apparently.

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.

Did you get both? That way you can try both for awhile then sell the set you like least? I really like my PBs but if Ironmasters came up on CL at a decent price I would probably get them just so I could definitively know which set I liked better. Or keep them both and use the Ironmasters for higher numbers so I don't have to worry if I have to drop one.

If I didn't have my 5-100 rubber hexes, I would take ironmaster dumbells all day over powerblocks. For reasons such as cwcmac state, you can drop ironman terms at heavier weight.
Very good starter set. Great quality at a cheap price. Some would say it's even a good price in flipping...

I did think about it (and I looked at them 3 times now so some internal battle and they just got pulled so someone got them) but honestly I'm loving the PBs. I'm a barbell guy at heart so these make some extra assistance work fast/easy. They've transformed my assistance work as I've dropped the barbell for some of it due to time pressure. I don't drop dumbbells routinely so no issue there and they are also for my kids to use so I value the easy swap.
If the price was "wow" I'd do it and maybe eventually I'll play with them but I have zero desire after the PBs. Very happy with them and speed.▪█─────█▪ Rogue Barbell Crew #27 ▪█─────█▪

Is this lat machine a good buy?
Hello seller has a Paramount 700 LAT machine for $125. He is not the original owner. He bought it from a gym that was replacing their equipment a few years ago. Weight stack is 200lb.he said he not too long replaced the cables. One of the rollers has a pretty bad tear.

Yeah I have lost a few good deals because I don't have the time or a vehicle to move the equipment. Normally I got to tell the seller I can pick up on weekend when I can get someone to let me borrow a truck. That has not worked for me most of the times since the seller wants to get rid of the equipment quickly.
