High GPA, and good resume, good interviewer. Company was looking for college grads too. Was 20 when I got the job.
Had other offers too that might have been considered "better".
The thing is you have to expand your thinking when looking for jobs. I didn't notice this until I jokingly applied for some higher paying jobs than what I thought I could get. This started sophomore year. Was getting paid similar to what I'm getting now before graduating, but decided to quit to focus on school (40hrs/week mandatory job). Never think something is out of your reach because anything is possible. Even if you do not have the experience. Also, make sure your resume and interview skills are on point. That is if you don't have the necessary network (which I don't).Simply put, I'm the grey area

what did your first job post-graduation pay? $90/day, $80/day if I were not a certified teacher
what was the job? substitute teacher
what was your major? history
I did get a job in membership sales at a gym last year, which paid $18,000/yr base plus commission, but I lost it since I wasn't making my sales goals, so I went back to my job as a substitute teacher and am still there. I'm currently trying to get a job that actually pays a living wage, but there's so much competition for jobs that I haven't had any luck thus far, even with temp agencies.Make Fihe Not Fat Again.

- i was at my first company for 3 years. each year got around a 4% merit increase
- went to second company and that offer was a 20% increase over first job
- stayed at second company for 3 years. one year got a 3% increase. promoted to senior analyst second year (pay increased another 13%)
- manipulated them with an outside job offer for another 15% increase (i dont necessarily recommend doing this)
- got hired at third job for a 33% increase (was fcking awesome, but job turned out to be a royal pain in the ass)
- just got fourth job with 13% increase (just got the offer last week)
so my advice is not to stay somewhere for too long if money is your concern.
at this point i do hope to find a job that where i feel i can be at for an extended period of time. I need to spend time building my resume further by taking more industry exams and what not. my last job was so damn rough that i wasnt able to do any extracurricular learning.
the numbers above are off the top of my head, so they could be a bit off but that is the general idea. biggest increases came by changing jobs

58K at 20 years old, but money isn't everything. People can come on here and claim to be making six figures, but that doesn't necessarily makes them successful. Successful is whether or not you're content with your life or not. Most people I know who make a lot of money have very stressful jobs and hate going to work.
