USPA Houston Fall Classic - 10/14/17
Squat
65 kg / 143 lb
75 kg / 165 lb
85 kg / 187.3 lb
Bench
52.5 kg / 115.5 lb
57.5 kg / 126.5 lb
60 kg / 132.3 lb FAIL
Deadlift
122.5 kg / 270.1 lb
132.5 kg / 292.1 lb
137.5 kg / 303 lb FAIL
Squat went off without a hitch. My 3rd squat was still a bit too easy. I am having a hard time gauging squat attempts because I struggle with them during training.
Bench was a little aggravating. The guy lifting off during the women's bench handed me my first attempt with one hand and the bar wobbled in the air. I asked him before my 2nd attempt to use two hands so he did. After the hand off he stood on the riser so long that the head judge had to tell him to move so he could give the "start" command. It felt like I was holding 126.5 in the air for an eternity waiting for the command. It probably wasn't long but it felt like it. I failed 132.3 again. I really want to get that one. That's two meets I've failed it.
I started deads with 270. Wade planned for me to go to 286.6 for the second attempt. We started talking about bumping my 3rd attempt from 297 to 303 so he told me to bump my 2nd attempt from 286.6 to 292.1. That would make it easier to jump to 303 on 3rd attempt. I deadlifted 270 relatively easy. My second attempt of 292.1 was much harder and much uglier because I didn't load well. Same issue with 303 but because 2nd attempt was a struggle I didn't have any energy left to fight 303. On video I gave up pretty quickly but I could tell it wasn't going to go past an inch off the floor. My back was fried.
I ended up with a deadlift PR and a meet squat PR. I got 3rd in the open 56kg class (123 lbs) so I wasn't last
The girl who got first place said my deadlift weights were "crazy" so she must have smoked me in squat to get first. She was such a sweet and humble girl and it was her first meet which is pretty awesome. The girl who got 2nd was a complete azzhole and I was hoping I'd at least beat her. I've never seen someone with worse sportsmanship. She bombed her 2nd and 3rd squat and started cussing and yelling at her husband who was helping her as if it were his fault. Pretty sure she cried too. After she bombed her first bench attempt I saw her pouting in the lobby. Someone asked her how it was going after bench and she just looked at them and turned around without answering. I never once saw her ask how anyone else was doing, cheer for anyone else or anything like that. I'm glad people like her are rare at a meet. I also saw a team from Lake Charles from the last meet that I had befriended. A couple of the girls who I remember competing in the last meet were coaching others in this meet. They were super helpful knowing I was by myself and would tell me how many out I was or if I was in the hall they'd come tell me when my flight was starting to warm up. I ended up buying one of their team shirts to support them. I also made another friend with a girl competing in masters. I'm hoping she competes in the next area meet in March.POWERLIFTING TRAINING JOURNAL

Well done, Penny
Shame about some being just being so into themselves and no supportive of others. There's always somebody. Shame really, as she's the one taking the enjoyment out of it for herself.- Fallen Angel -

Way too go! Squats definitely looked like cake.
Sorry about the bench issue though.
Wow, that chick who came in second sounds like a real piece of work. I understand being disappointed, but that's just chitty. From what I see of those who discuss their meets, they're usually fun, and sociable. She'd have a better time if she just took herself less seriously.PRs: 95lbs/126lbs/212lbs

Squat was pretty easy as I kind of figured it would be. It's hard to know for sure how it will go because I'm struggling with them in training. Makes it hard to gauge them. I guess it beats doing well in training and sucking in a meet?
The next meet is not until March so hopefully I'll get more than 200 then.POWERLIFTING TRAINING JOURNAL

I took all last week off from lifting. I needed to recharge and I wanted to rest my back. I'm hoping that by the time I deadlift again on Friday I will feel some relief.
It felt good to be back today even if everything felt heavier than it normally would.
I had Lasik on Thursday. It was so nice not to try to poke contacts in my eyes at 4am this morning!
Also GO 'STROS!!!

I had never experienced anyone like her at a meet before. Hopefully never again either.
Thanks, Zak. It turned out that those guys were volunteers from some organization so I'm guessing they had never done lift offs before. Maybe....
I wish I had done Lasik sooner!
It all turned out to be good timing. Of course now that I'm back to lifting this week I'm regretting that time off. I'm so fuking sore today!POWERLIFTING TRAINING JOURNAL
