    Bench Press : Overhead Press Ratio

    What is your ratio on your bench press to overhead press?

    Curious because when I was comparing stats with some people they brought it to my attention that my OHP was really high compared to my bench.

    Best Bench was 325 but its actually currently closer to the 305 to 315 range but my OHP is 225. Literally just got that the other day.

    Is a 3:2 ratio a normal ratio or am I ahead of the game in shoulders and behind in chest and tricep development?

    Just wanted some outside opinions.

    yours is a bit higher than mine in favor of ohp. i think you should be able to bench 330-350

    I've never maxed on flat bench or OHP, but for 5 reps I can bench 165 lbs (probably more like 185 now) and OHP 105. I actually have not barbell flat benched for probably a month come to think of it.

    I can bench 265 and OHP 155. This is probably because my ohp work is always after my bench work

    I'd love to tap 350. That's my next big goal on bench. I'm hoping to get my triceps stronger and my chest stronger and get that 350 mark

    I can do 245 OHP and max on bench around 365 but my chest has problems so I tend to shy away from barbell bench.

    My stats:
    bodyweight 150
    bench 200 (1.3x bw)
    ohp 140 (0.9x bw)
    bench to ohp ratio = 1.4:1 (close to yours)

    By the "OHP 1x bw and Bench 1.5x bw" standards, your OHP is stronger than your bench, but not by too much. Pretty normal I think. Maybe focus on chest strength a little more now.

    OHP 245 BP 425... but I don't train OHP like I do the bench... I know a lot of guys that OHP a lot more than me that can't bench anything close to my max... I think it really depends on how you train.

    I'm about the same ratio as above. OHP 235 (standing, starting on chest, absolutely strict) and bench 375. Some peoples OHP is higher or lower IMO because some don't start all the way down at chest, are seated, or cheat with legs or leanback if standing.

    I think people are pretty consistent about judging a "proper" legit bench, but kinda all over the board about what they'd personally consider a "proper" OHP

    for heavier sets with Dbells at 4 reps is 130's for flat and 105 seated overhead.

    I dislike doing shoulder exercises seated. I do a few db versions seated but I remember reading a little quip about shoulder exercises and its always stuck in my head.

    "You can do a lot of shoulder exercises seated... you can also pee while seated... but why would you"

    That's prolly not a good reason to not do it but it still weighs on my mind lol.
