    Exclamation sleep apnea bros GTFIH!

just got diagnosed with sleep apnea after spending the night hooked up to a machine.

getting a CPAP machine tomorrow... I haven't had a good nights sleep in over a year and always wondered what was wrong.

    anyone have experience with this?

I was a polysomnography tech for a few years. Had several patients say it was a night and day difference with energy levels, mental clarity, feeling rested, etc.

Many of our patients were morbidly obese or chronic pain patients that were getting central apneas due to opiates.

It might take a little while to get used to the mask but I bet you'll notice a big difference, especially if you have moderate to severe sleep apnea. Do you remember your numbers from your test?

My father has this. I snore loud and never feel rested after sleeping. I always thought I possibly had it and never took a sleep study. I really don't want to tolerate sleeping with a cpap mask on.

nasal pillows (mask) are soft and would be a better fit for you probably, rather than the nose + mouth mask. most severe patients require a full mask because they need bipap rather than simple cpap. the sound of the machine usually puts people asleep as is.

They didn't tell me any numbers, but only that I have "mild" sleep apnea. I'm actually excited at the potential of getting good sleep.

Do you have your tonsils still?

Did they offer you surgery as an alternative to the CPAP?

My buddy has a CPAP and he told me it is like night and day. Almost makes me want to try it. I never wake up and feel rested. It takes me a little for my brain to wake up.

This helped me. Tonsils, adenoids and turbinate reduction and my snoring is pretty much gone unless I drink.

For individuals with normal ENT anatomy, clinical studies suggest surgical intervention is not as effective, and should be considered a last resort in OSA. Most non-invasive treatments work well for OSA, though in severe cases surgery is unavoidable.

light sleeper, so cpap machine actually wakes me up at night more than apnea crew. lol. i wake up on avg. 2-3 times a night from the stupid mask moving on my face. i guess it beats not breathing, but i can't get a good night's sleep...not that i was anyway since i have apnea.

with the mask or nose mask, can't sleep on side or back, can't move head too much, feel like i'm stuck in a coffin. i lost some weight and apnea got better. 215 -> 195lbs. haven't used the machine in a while. prolly still stop breathing, but i feel less groggy in the morning.

The thing about cpap is u need to get a quiet machines(which most machines should be nowadays).

Most importantly, u need to get a good, comfortable mask...if u have to be picky be picky....get a good one.

    People with sleep apnea:
When they go to sleep at night, they dont know thay they stopped breathing many times in one night. When u wake up in morning, u feel tired as hell. Why u ask? Cause even though u feel like ur sleeping but due to stop breathing so often, your organs are not getting the oxygen it needs. Therefore, when u wake up, youre exhausted and tired all day long

    2 forms of apnea:
    1. Obstructed sleep apnea: extra tissues blocking your airways

    2) central: ur brain tells u to stop breathing

    Cpap is the bomb

U will feel big difference bro
    Good luck

Thanks for the response brah. How was the surgery?

A friend had the surgery too and he had good results
Wasn't nearly as bad as I'd heard. I was 33 at the time and was in a good amount of pain the first day and nearly pain free by the third day. The only problem I had was some hemorrhaging about a week post op, bled a really good amount and had to go back in to get cauterized.

@Eskimo...there's a place close to me that does an injection that ends up scarring the soft palate. It's really inexpensive, been thinking about doing that just to clear up what snoring I still have.

No tonsils but that was years ago. For me, they did not recommend surgery.

To be honest the biggest problem was not getting the correct CPAP machine for me. The biggest struggle I had was finding a mask that was actually comfortable on my face. That took the good amount of trial and error to find a mask that actually fit me correctly and that let me sleep throughout the whole entire night. What I finally found that helped me find the right mask for me was this resource: http://www.snoringabc.com/best-cpap-mask/. I suggest that you don't settle for something that is semi-comfortable. Keep on trying something else until you are completely comfortable with a mask that you have.
