Dave P did some closet work like you're talking about. I believe he posted a link in this thread. It had a real modern flare but would help you get going.
Do you have any cadd software? I've always found laying things out in cadd really helps with making things work/fit and give you a rough idea of cost.
Have you ever built any furniture? I would say it would be really similar. Drawers are going to be the most difficult. If you're done it before it should go pretty easy.

depending on what you have for tools, it may be better for you to buy a closet system as opposed to building your own. there are a lot of tools required that you wouldn't think of (joiners, sanders, air tools, levels, drills) but if you have the time and the experience in doing some finish carpentry then by all means build your own!
you could also look into having a local shop build one up for you, some shops can be quite reasonable for pricing. and they can have it done quick!

Yes. I use DraftSight (free).
I'm actually a structural engineer so the planning is not what I'm worried about. It's execution and precision. And I didn't give it a lot of thought yet but the finishing will be pretty extensive to get it to match a store purchased one which may be a lot of the hidden cost. Hm...
Maybe I should just start saving...D/SQ/B = 405/335/270 = 1010#
I finally made it.

I did this when i first bought my house. The main living room had a weird L shape. I put up a partition wall and made part of the room into a storage area. Also all of the walls were wood paneling so i tore all of that down and put up drywall. Also installed surround sound speakers into the wall and replaced insulation where needed. Did it ALL myself.

Got some painting done this weekend. Repainting door frames this week is next, followed by painting and and cutting baseboard. Floors are getting installed in 3 weeks from tomorrow.

Decent weekend, didn't get everything done I wanted to. Pallets took a lot longer to take apart that I planned.
Rustic looking pallet shelves, all stained, just need to let them dry and hang them.
Covered firewood holder, will probably put some shingles on it later.
Got all the wood torn down and started on the top of the pallet table. I'm going to attempt to lay the top in a V pattern, then stain it a washed light blue color.

Thanks brah. The stain was Minwax Red Mahogany.. which is actually left over from staining the deck... which as you can see I need to put a few more coats on. Most of the shading you see was from the actual pallets. I didn't sand them down or clean them or anything, just left them all beat up.
I looked at a bunch of pictures, but didn't really see anything I liked. So I just grabbed a pallet that was beat to hell and kinda pieced it together as I went. There are a lot of rusty nails, cracks, and some neat stamping on a few of the pieces of wood.Internet Muscle Squad

Haha. It's going to be pretty nice. That far right end is probably 7' off the ground so it gives a really nice view of the lot and surroundings. I just really hope that 5/4" treated decking holds up. I'm going to put a water proofing over it when I'm done so hopefully it will last.
I'm also glad I put that step in. Gives it some depth. Thanks for the tip guys.Last edited by gixxer0.6g; 03-09-2015 at 12:21 PM.
