No, you're right, man lol. I always up my calories when dealing with water retention. I've gone high these last 4 days to try and get it to release the water. Currently I've dropped 2 lbs of water, hoping to be around 220 by Monday. It is hard to gauge it though because I load up on sodium during the week so my body tends to hold stable till Thursday usually, maybe a slight drop by Friday night and then after my refeeds it all sheds off. I also don't take in a huge amount of sodium on the weekends and I try to flush it all out. Between my fat days and loading up on sodium, my body rarely looks right lol.

I'm cutting, man. I do regular high calorie days for the same reason, to drop weight the next day roughly. I cut hard though and I need the refeeds to keep the weight moving on the scale and the bar. Anytime I don't I have adverse effects, sadly. People like you and thesilent wont need them as much as me probably but that doesn't mean you can't benefit from it. Chronic cutting and lifting simply takes a toll on the body and the CNS causing water retention, poor lifts, and plateaus, etc. Sooner or later you need a break to deload, and a break to reward your hard work and give your body some badly needed R&R. Hope that makes sense to you.

    4/24 Thursday

    Intake

    Cals: 3304, 195g protein, 241g fat, 40g CHO

    Workout

    Lat pull downs (pully): 10x120, 10x120, 10x132, 10x168, 10x168, 10x168 (I don't know why this is so low but its moving forward I guess, I'm up a plate x3.)
Bicep curls straight bar (short one): 10x50, 10x55, 10x60 + bar (added 5 lbs and moving. The bar isn't added to the weight either, anyone know how much they weigh?)
DB bent over row: 10x90, 10x90, 10x90 (added 5 lbs x3. Happy to pull this mid-workout)
    Spider Curls DB: 7x25 & 3x20, 10x20, 10x20
    Straight arm pull downs: 10x132, 10x132, 10x132
Wide grip bicep curl (pully): 10x108, 10x108, 10x108 (highest I've gone so far I think)
    Hyper-extensions: 15, 15, 15

Yeah, so weight is still moving up I want to lift a lot more though so I'm never happy, haha. Me thinks I'm going to try something new next week. I want to see if I can't speed up the fat loss. I'm thinking about adding LISS or MISS cardio after lifting. The goal is ~437 extra burned calories on Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri. Increase calories on Wednesday, and keto refeed on the weekends like I am. My thinking is I can squeeze out an extra half pound a week, hence the 437 goal if anyone caught that. I have until Monday night at the gym to decide if I want to commit to this idea or not. I'm iffy on it.

You already know I'm a fan of PWO LISS. Why upping the cals on Weds?
If it is important to you, you will find a way.

The last time I added cardio to the mix I was doing a ~300 calorie burn a session. I felt like it hindered my results, but I think that was also before I started doing high calorie days/keto refeeds. So I'm thinking of keeping everything the same but increase cals on Wednesday and refeed on the weekend and hopefully I can get the same results but a little faster.

    4/25 Friday

    Intake

Cals: 2892, 193g protein, 197g fat, 37g CHO + the cheese and toppings from 3 pieces of pizza. So much for lowering my intake today haha.

    Workout

    DB bench press: 10x50, 10x60, 10x70, 10x90, 10x90, 10x90 (struggling a little but up 5 lbs)
Tricep extension: 10x168, 10x168, 10x168 (did the same weight by accident or maybe I remembered wrong last week)
    DB chest flies: 10x40, 10x40, 10x40 (added 5lbs)
    reverse grip tricep extension: 9x168, 10x156, 10x156
    Incline bench (machine): 10x180, 10x180, 10x180
    Tricep kick backs DB: 10x20, 10x20, 10x20
Planks: 1 set, 3 mins total, 30 seconds each oblique

Checked my weight again tonight, holding at 222. The same I was on the 14th. I'm aiming for 220 since my cals have been higher all week. Just don't think I'll hit 219 which is what it should be with my average loss per week. Got a lot of good eats for tomorrow. I'm pumped.

    4/26 Saturday

    Intake

    Cals: 4564, 198g protein, 377g fat, 25g net CHO

I had a crappy day today but settling down to a huge plate of comfort food is definitely making the fat kid inside happy. Look at that intake!!!

    And as always... FOOD PORN!!!

Some roast beef fried in bacon and rib grease with some bacon and Havarti cheese. Naughty!

Oh, you're such a filthy slut! 3 steak sizzler patties, horseradish cheddar cheese, 1 avocado, half lb red hot sausage, half a sauteed onion, 2 pieces of bacon, and at least 2oz of buffalo mayo. Yeah, I was seduced into happiness

I ate another massive plate of that one stuff I made last night around 12-1pm and had some coffee with heavy whipping cream. Has me full and pretty anti-food so I think I'm just going to call it good for the day and just suck down a gallon of water. I'm really not that concerned about my exact intake so I'm going to just post my caloric intake for the day and a guess for the macro break down based off of yesterday and what I didn't eat today.

    4/27 Sunday

    Intake

    Cals: ~3,000, 130-150g protein, 200g+ fat, 20g net CHO

Ready for Monday and ready to start the week. Still haven't decided about increasing my deficit or not. Guess I should think about that more tonight.

Is that sauce on the sizzlers horseradish cheddar cheese or buffalo mayo? Either way, you got a recipe for that? It looks good enough to put on everything.

The stuff on the sizzlers is a cheese with horseradish in it that I get at the meat market where I buy all my meat. The reddish sauce on top is the buffalo mayo. I bought it from the same place but I have a recipe for 'paleo mayo' that is good and can easily be modified for custom flavors.

The mayo and avocado made it win for sure.

    4/28 Monday

    Intake

    Cals: 2892, 193g protein, 197g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Military Press: 10x90, 10x140, 10x180, 10x220, 10x220, 10x220 (added 5 lbs)
    Hyper-extensions: 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15 (added a set)
Rear delt flies (pully): 10x185, 10x185, 10x185 (up 5 lbs)
    Side lateral Raises DB: 10x25, 10x25, 10x25
Wrist rolls: 2x20, 2x20, 2x20 (3 full sets of 2 reps, getting that kung fu grip!)

Weigh in sucked again, 223 lbs... A full week of higher calories plus a big weekend, including eating a pound of cheese this weekend.... yeah... sucks... At least my lifts were solid.

I knew this would happen when I woke up this morning, things just didn't look/feel right. It made me decide to increase my deficit this morning but I decided against that in the gym. My lifts are up and I care more about those than my scale progress. If I cut calories even more I'm afraid it'll hurt my lifting progress. Specially when I keep increasing sets for certain areas. Anyways, I decided I should get my diet back in line instead. I got addicted to adding heavy cream to my protein shake last week, so no more of that. New rules. Keep my intake at 2892 at least 3 out of 5 weekdays at least. For my keto refeeds on the weekend I'm going to start limiting my intake, no more 4500 calorie days. Instead, I'll limit myself to 1000 calories over maintenance, so about 3500 calories. This will put me back in line to where I was. No more BS, period.

    progress pictures....

and a side one for reference and variety....

    4/29 Tuesday

    Intake

    Cals: 2892, 193g protein, 197g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Leg press: 10x180, 10x270, 10x360, 10x450, 10x540, 10x630 (still struggling, not sure why)
    Seated calf raises: 20x100, 20x100, 20x100 (up 10 lbs)
    Abducters: 10x205, 10x205, 10x205 (up 5 lbs)
    Adducters: 10x205, 10x205, 10x205 (up 5 lbs)
Standing calf raises (the bob): 20x190, 20x190, 20x190 (up 10 lbs)
    **LANKS!!!**
5 sets, 1 minute planks, and a straight of lunges (added a round of planks/lunges - even more brutal)

So pretty much outside of the leg press everything has been going really well. Weighed in at 221, not great but its a good start, should drop again on Thursday or Friday. I need all the good mojo I can get right now lol.

Sending good vibes! You're doing fine, nothing wrong with a little trial/error while experimenting. The keto refreeds are still kind of a new idea, but now that you've got a plan and the dedication to stick to it, you'll be droppin' those lbs in no time.
If it is important to you, you will find a way.
If it's not, you will find an excuse.

    5/1 Thursday

    Intake

    Cals: 2892, 193g protein, 197g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Lat pull downs (pully): 10x120, 10x120, 10x132, 10x180, 10x180, 10x180 (Up a plate)
Bicep curls straight bar (short one): 10x60, 10x65, 10x65 + bar (added 5 lbs)
DB bent over row: 10x95, 10x95, 10x95 (up 5 lbs)
Bicep curls (behind the back): 10x36, 10x36, 10x36
Straight arm pull downs: 10x144, 10x144, 10x144 (up a plate)
Wide grip bicep curl (pully): 10x120, 10x120, 10x120 (up a plate)
    Hyper-extensions: 15, 15, 15

I pushed it extra hard today because I feel like I'm on some 'fuk people type chit' lately. Completely unmotivated to apply myself to a large number of things, except the gym. Got the weight on the bar pushing still, weighed in at 220 today, my gym partner finally broke 190 under my guidance.... Yeah, get sum.

I'm out... like a boner in sweatpants.

Oh, and another song to share because its frickin' amazing to lift to IMO.

Been dog sitting, man. Haven't really gotten around to it with having two 'kids' on my hands. Not fun at all lol.

    5/3 Saturday & 5/4 Sunday

Didn't track closely for either day since I'm at my parents dog sitting. I racked up 2400 calories + half rack of ribs each day with some BBQ sauce.

    5/5 Monday

    Intake

    Cals: 2892, 193g protein, 197g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Military Press: 10x90, 10x140, 10x180, 10x225, 10x225, 10x225 (added 5 lbs)
    Hyper-extensions: 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15, 15 (added a set)
Rear delt flies (pully): 10x190, 10x1190, 10x190 (up 5 lbs)
Side lateral Raises DB: 10x30, 10x25, 10x25 (slowly trying to increase the weight)
    Wrist rolls: 2x20, 2x20, 2x20, 2x20 (added a set)

I might need to change my weigh in day to Friday or something. Weighed in at 225 lbs. Weird, water retention.... So frustrating. I even avoided da cheese this weekend. Them lifts keep going up though .

    Picture time!

I always do It is just so hard because I feel like I'm always hungry. All I want to do is plow through food left and right. My appetite on the weekdays is so frickin' huge I feel like. Might need to take a week off from the deficit and just eat at maintenance. Outside of my protein intake, I can really have a lot of fun with an extra 600-1000 calories :P Whipping cream protein shakes, peanut butter and coconut oil, more cheese.... Mmmmm..... I got good ideas for this weekend

    5/6 Tuesday

    Intake

    Cals: 3012, 191g protein, 213g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Leg press: 10x180, 10x270, 10x360, 10x450, 10x540, 10x630
    Seated calf raises: 20x110, 20x110, 20x110 (up 10 lbs)
    Abducters: 10x210, 10x210, 10x210 (up 5 lbs)
    Adducters: 10x210, 10x210, 10x210 (up 5 lbs)
Standing calf raises (the bob): 20x200, 20x200, 20x200 (up 10 lbs)
    **LANKS!!!**
6 sets, 1 minute planks, and a straight of lunges (added a round of planks/lunges - we going HAM!!)

Checked my weight, pre-workout was 222, post-workout and shower was 221. I've decided when I finally dip under 220 that isn't on the weekend from flushing all my sodium out I want to reward myself with some food I'm craving. Right now I'm craving a philly steak sandwich, some lovely mexican food, and an apple fritter. I'm also getting bored with my food, its good, but I'm craving less veggies and more meat and fat and a lot of cheese. Going to see why I can come up with to replace it with. Thank God leg day is over!!!

You just can't help yourself eh! LOL You start dreaming of food and before you know it, 5k cals gone!

I feel you on the hunger thing. I am starting to pack in a lot of veggies just to help fill the gap as it were. Definitely going to stop the shakes as well as need real food!!!!

Your numbers are all going up so good job sir!

Everyone is jealous of my macros until they realize that food cost money and the more you need, the more you shell out weekly for that fuel

Hey, I saw your thread, and your pictures. You got no reason to be jealous! In fact, I'm jealous of your food lol.

    5/8 Thursday

    Intake

    Cals: 3012, 191g protein, 213g fat, 37g CHO

    Workout

    Lat pull downs (pully): 10x120, 10x120, 10x132, 10x192, 10x180, 10x180
Bicep curls straight bar (short one): 10x60, 10x65, 10x65 + bar
    DB bent over row: 10x95, 10x95, 10x95
Bicep curls (behind the back): 10x36, 10x36, 10x36
narrow grip lat pull down: 10x132, 10x132, 10x132
Wide grip bicep curl (pully): 10x120

I ended my workout when I was about 90% done. Mentally I just couldn't do it anymore. I started off strong trying to push it on the lat downs but the body just wouldn't go more so I went with last week's lifts and still struggled my butt off. I don't know if my struggles are from the lack of sleep I've had all week just finally catching up to me or what but I'm just too tired.

I'm still very frustrated with my current progress. I started off good and there isn't much of a change from when I started to now. Diet has changed by only ~100 calories. My lifts have been solid, and my weight loss has been sketchy lately. Been dealing with a lot of resistance to weight loss, a lot of water retention, and my body feels beat up from lifting heavy. The only thing I can think of is A) time to deload and B) my deficit has caught up to me. I don't think I need to deload yet exactly, but I do think my deficit has caught up with me.

I went digging in my keto experiment log and remember when I was hitting 2700-2800 calories without refeeds for 4 weeks with zero results and poor gym performance. Soon as I upped my cals back to 3500-3800 I started losing weight, I think 2 lbs a week. I misread this at the time as that my deficit was too much and that the higher intake was actually at 10-20% deficit for me. It donged on my awhile ago that my maintenance is actually 3800-4000. I was in a deficit and my body was holding water and etc, and when I returned to a higher intake my body was dumping it and returning to normal. Lately I've been mad hungry through the week. I believe this is my body saying it needs more cals. I guess one might call it a plateau, but instead of restricting calories more I'm actually going to up them. Starting tomorrow I'm going to increase my intake, and I'll follow this higher intake all next week, and possibly even longer depending on what I see. I shouldn't see a weight increase. Probably will hold steady, like I did once a long time ago, and then start dropping again.

If you're jealous of my macros now... just wait till I add an extra 500+

    Good Work Man!

Ive been tracking your progress since day 1, and have silently been cheering you on. I finally decided to register on this forum! so yeah newbie member here . Ive been doing the keto for about a month now, with my main focus of fat loss not weight loss. I have to say your food choices, as good as they look are not for me. I notice you run into weight loss problems due to possible water retention. Could it be possible that your sodium intake is way to high? I mean you consume a lot of processed meats hot dogs, bacon, etc. could that be the problem. My main diet consists of natural animal fats that occur naturally in salmon, steak, chicken thighs, never do i eat processed meat, due to not only the high sodium but other things such as nitrates. I usually just season my meat and that's where my sodium intake comes from. After the 1st week of being on this diet of good fats; no butter,no canola/vegtable oil, no trans fats, and sticking to the "good" fats (coconut oil is my best friend ). My water weight went to a normal level where i don't feel puffy or bloated, but i have a more natural feel, my face looks skinnier and could tell my body has been a little more defined. Also do you use keto stix at all? although not completely accurate they help to let you know where you are in ketosis. Any thoughts man would love to hear them. And again good-job on the progress were rooting for you.

Thanks, man, I'll try to be gentle with the food porn this weekend, maybe . When do you step back on the scale?

Glad to see you finally registered so you aren't on full creep mode . Fat loss is weight loss?? I'm thankful for your input but everything I know is pointing to cortisol. Lack of sleep lately from stress and dogs, chronic deficit, large deficit, lifting heavy, etc. Usually I can flush my body of my sodium with a caffeinated drink. I know this because when I do I can see my body thin out, plus the scale shows a 3-4 lb drop and I tend to cramp up. I honestly don't eat a lot of processed food except on the weekends but we all need to cut loose at some point. My daily intake is ~4,000 plus what is in my food naturally. It hasn't been a problem before and I haven't changed anything so I'm thinking the deficit and everything is finally catching up to me again. This is all based off what I'm seeing, what I know from reading, and what I've seen in the past. Last time I had this happen my lifts started to suffer and my weight stayed the same for 4 weeks. Soon as I increased my intake, I stayed the same for a week then started dropping 2 lbs a week for 4 weeks and then I got sick. I'll post a picture of my weekday diet so you can see for yourself. Though I'm sure next week will definitely be a lot more processed food than I'm use to just because I need a change up, we'll see, still deciding.

    5/9 Friday

    Intake

Cals: 3752, 199g protein, 269g fat, 37g CHO (added 8 oz heavy whipping cream to increase my calories)

    Workout

DB bench press: 10x50, 10x60, 10x70, 10x85, 10x85, 10x85 (dropped down 5 lbs just to take it easier)
Tricep extension: 10x192, 10x192, 10x192 (up a plate to see if I could, only one plate left in the stack)
    DB chest flies: 10x50, 10x50, 10x50 (added 5lbs)
    pully skull crushers: 15x108, 15x108, 15x108

Time for some R&R and a lot of food!
