    Log press vs. barbell press?

Ive never tried a log press although i was watching an amateur strongman competition in my area and was surprised at how low the weight was - I'm just wondering is a log press harder or easier than a barbell press? and maybe an explanation as to why?

The log is probably easier than a barbell because you have decreased ROM (higher when it rests on shoulders)

just a guess, don't have personal experience

The diameter of the log plays a big role in this. An 8" diameter log feels WAY different than a 12" or 13" diameter log.

My 12" log is harder to press than a barbell strict or push press. Diameter is a big factor in this despite a neutral hammer grip which is a stronger grip for me. The log bar feels so much more natural though.

I have never pressed a log however from what I have read I don't think that the increased challenge comes from the pressing aspect but from the cleaning aspec where the majority of the weight would be farther out in front of the body. I would think the neutral hand grip would allow you to press more though. I'm working on finding a log to build one now so experience may prove my theory wrong

With my training group, we had been using a log that was 11inches, then got a new one that was over 12 and it kicked all our asses for a couple weeks. (Also didn't help that we didn't know the true weight of it)
