Wetty, Q - Now that youre back amongst humans, and have seen both sides of the fence, you are somewhat an authority on the subject:

How should we view fat people?

Should they be pitied, or are they just lazy bums?


You can speak to the fact that being deathly obese is depressing and crushes all motivation. However, you are also a testament to willpower. The answer being "its not easy", but it can be done. If the argument for why you are fat is "its not easy to lose weight" then you firmly land in the lazy category.

There is no catch all answer or approach because, as with most things in regards to human behavior, it is as unique as the individual. Some people respond to adversity, others respond to kindness. Myself? I responded to a combination of humor and having logical small steps outlined for me. What works will depend on many factors, such as the root cause was for their weight gain, what obstacles, real or imagined, keep them from reversing their state. Their support system and the people they keep around them, their cultural background, etc.

I don't think being fat is much different from any other human flaw other than the fact that its highly visible. What I think my story proves, though, is that simply writing off someone who is obese as a lost cause is doing a disservice. Attitudes can be changed. Bad habits can be reversed. Some may take more convincing than others, but if you believe that ever human has potential, than it seems worthwhile to figure out which approach will help them.

It's been a while since I've been around this part of the board...or the board at all for that matter. As perosnal life has taken large priority lately due to some big changes.

However, another member was kind enough to touch base on ******** and link me the video as well as as certain moment (18:10-18:20 time frame) in it.

I want to say that I have honestly taken very few greater pleasures in life than having had the opportunity to spend some time with you in person and just talk with you about anything and everything.

You have one of the greatest mindsets in life and I still to this day tell, and show, your story to any friends/family who have shown interest in changing their lifestyle, but didn't believe they could.

I wanted to thank you personally for the mention in the video, but also let you know that you have done more for so many people than any gesture I could have done for you.

First, the weigh in. Outstanding considering your hiccups over the month. Well done!

Second, that video! Just awesome! I saw it come up on FB but I thought it was the story from July being recycled.

Third, the time off. A break is definitely beneficial. I think you should do them more but plan them so you don't feel like you're screwing up. You're probably at the point and doing this long enough that you're able to manage them and get back on track. They are valuable psychologically too.
