Your dad's a wise man brah. Wouldn't feel the same if he was working 80 hrs a week living paycheck to paycheck scraping by for food and chit to support his family. When you have it all you forget what it's like to have nothing.

Well, he has times where he does need to work 60-80 hours in a week. It's not all the time though. My dad was a constant presence at my house growing up. When he had to work on weekends, he did it at home so he could at least be around if one of his kids wanted to show him something cool, or needed his advice and help. He is a great father, and while I have no desire for kids in the next 10 years for sure, if I ever have them, I know who I'll be like. I respect him, because he never acted like he was rich. First 5 years of my life, I lived in downtown Wilmington, DE. Straight up hood. Then we moved to the suburbs north of the city, and then to a big azz house. I watched him work his way up, but he never lost sight of the important things in his life.

I should add that he is on a business trip in Dallas right now, and he STILL took time to listen to my new track 6 times in order to give me his musical opinion. That is a kickass dad!

The misc is a great place to read posts because it has such a wide range of people from different locations, races, age groups, values and beliefs etc who all have had different life experiences, but we all share a common interest of bodybuilding, exercising in general or dieting.

Everyone in this thread share a lesson YOU have learned in life so far through your experiences.


I'll start:

Cut out everyone from your life who brings you negativity, even if it leaves you with no friends. You will make new ones with similar interests if you do what interests you.

I done this with most of my friends who I had throughout high school years after I left. I realised we had nothing in common anymore because they were in pursuit of something different from their life than me. They used to bring me a lot of negativity because I didn't go out drinking with them and go clubbing, I received a lot of insults from them. I hate clubbing and getting wasted didn't interest me (not because of diet). I would rather chill myself and drink 1 beer watching a movie than go to a bar and get smashed.

Once I cut them out completely I had no "friends" I could go out with but I quickly made new ones I liked better because I met them through a similar interest. I started going to the gym instead of using my chitty home gym and met some sick people there with similar interests and some of us go for a post workout meal a few times a week. I met other people at uni on my course who were chill. I go to watch my local football team and met some dudes there and now we all go to games together.

The point I'm making is not to be afraid to cut out people from your life who bring you negativity because you will meet new people who you have more in common through doing what interests you. Do what YOU want to do. I have even cut out my cousin because of the negativity he brought me. Surround yourself with people who positively impact you and do the same with them.

Don't expect to see positive changes in your life if you surround yourself with negative people. Surround yourself with people who only lift you up, life is full of people who want to bring you down.

If you speak honestly and from the heart people can generally tell and appreciate you for it. I've said some of the most idiotic things to chicks, strangers, whatever and in most cases it's worked out just fine. I'm not saying blurt out every single feeling or thought that comes to mind, rather it's generally better to say something real rather than a line or something you've concocted in order to get the reaction you want.

So often does "i feel...." become a statement that has an objective basis is reality,this is bull**** and called emotional reasoning.Attempting to navigate through life based upon intuition is a bad idea,and it'll **** you up.Be sure to question your emotional state and how you perceive reality.Your brain loves "shortcuts" called heuristics which reduces the cognitive load required to reason.Your brain loves to make assumptions and if at times you don't correct harmful patterns of thoughts then you'll lose your mind,i learned this the hard way.Im bi-polar and i've have taken every medication on the market and have seen at least 6 therapists since i was a teenager(first one at 14).Nobody told me this,i learned this through trial and error and because of my discovery my mental illness isn't as debilitating, frankly my suggestion has application for just about anyone.

If you go through life looking for negativity it's all you'll find.10 people could treat you with great empathy and compassion,but if 1 person wrongs you then suddenly you might spiral into a cycle of cynicism.This is called confirmation bias;you expect people to treat you like **** and you'll therefore discount the experiences of everyone who fails to uphold that schema.This point relates heavily to my first point.

There a multiple ways to get to the same place in life,don't rule out the alternatives.

As someone with Crohn's this strongly applies. It's defined my life more than anything else for the past 10 years. I still have trouble accepting how much I've lost from it, both in terms of time and sacrifices of my lifestyle, but it's the hand I was dealt and I have no choice.
