Your really going to tell a customer to leave and kick them out of your Store? That is not very business practice. Especially as a manager, they will call Corporate office (there are numbers on the wall for suggestions/comments) and i will get an email about it a week later after corporate got a complaint for having a customer being kicked out so they could close the store.

Had it happen before to another store.
let me tell you. I could tell you stories upon stories about other managers and what they have done and the complaints against them, some of them were not very pretty.

nope i wouldn't outright be like "you guys gotta leave i'm closing soon." instead i'd just say "Hey guys, i just wanna give you a heads up i'm closing in 15 minutes" and 90% of the time people would leave. never had an issue with people staying late.

people are crazy though, sometimes i had people asking to come in well after 10pm....like wtf store hours on the door. needless to say i hated interacting with most customers because they were rude (most not all). i get your position tho, i'd probably do the same

Crazy. I worked in a few sit down type restaurants as a high school part time job, and there is no way I was ever working at a restaurant again.

I am very conscious about this and rarely eat somewhere this late but if an employee did this to me I would complain and never go back. Is an extra 15 min really worth making your customer feel unwanted? Very poor business practice

wow i'm glad subway didnt have that ordering policy. i woulda hated my job if that was the case. thats pretty ridiculous though, how often you end up staying late?

All the complaints above is the exact reason why i already got a job in construction for this summer
13$ an hour, but fam and i need it. At least i wont be dealing with stuck up customers like some of you working, in sit down restuarants

not sure if you've ever worked at a restaurant, but at the end of the day you just wanna go home after dealing with customers who argue with you about the price of a sandwich.

i get the business side of it and if i owned the restaurant i would care, but fact is i don't get paid for staying past 10. so if a customer is there taking his/her sweet time its just blatantly rude in my eyes

Never worked at a restaurant but worked retail. Had people call 5 min before closing wanting to come in. I stayed and took care of them and they contacted my boss about it. I was alone and could easily have said nope were closed. It's all about quality of service and taking pride

the mcdonalds near campus at u of i used to tell us the ice cream machine was broken if we came there after 10pm because the workers didn't want to stay later and have to clean the machine after their shift. a little transparent, but hey i'd probably do the same if i'd worked there.

Not really, its nice to be able to run the shop, but in essence there is a lot more responsibility. Its easier in the summer with more closers and more business being we are right by the peninsula, so we get a ton of travelers. But when we close with only 3 people you have to close one part of the store + Do all the paperwork, deposit etc. which can be time consuming.



Overtime if you hit over 40 hours a week.

Lol you'd love me then... I used to lock the does and turn off the lights if customers were still in the store past closing (retail not restaurant)... I'd give them 5 minutes then i would verbally tell them we are closed and they need to hurryup and make their choice.
