    Bulking vs Constant Weight?

So I was recently wondering whether or not, for an 85kg lifter who is relatively new but wants to compete @ 85, I should bulk up and then cut down, or just stay at 85kg LEAN and just maintain and gain strength.

i've was told, in my first year of competing to not care about what weight class i was in, just learn technique and get strong. Once you get used to the training and the competing, then you can play around with what weight you want to be.

Totally agree with this!! My coach did not specify this when I started, and I regret it.

If you're already lean I don't understand why you'd bulk and then cut back to the same weight?

Unless you're considering bulking for the strength gains and then trying to keep them as high as possible when you cut (maybe that's actually legit, I have no idea)?

I see too many newbies freaking out because they're hitting high numbers and putting on weight at the same time. They think that if they move to the next weight class, they won't be able to win medals or their sinclair will drop.

Yep!! I wish my coach would not have bothered to mention my weight at all for the first couple of years. Instead, he kept harping on me to stay down in the 77's so I lost a good deal of time where I could have gotten stronger while not bothering with my weight, or what weight class I would be in.

I think most noobz should just focus on learning the lifts and getting stronger in the proper positions rather than what weight class they should be in!!
