Your college degree in exercise science is probably how they found you. NHE is very new but very elite. If they contacted you, that says a lot about you.

Good luck brother. Here's some more info:

    Wink

I went through the recruitment process for this position a few months back and I can say from experience that it was pretty thorough. In terms of what to expect, you can read their entire recruitment process on their website. Everything that is posted online regarding each step is accurate.
Not a lot of trainers have heard of NHE, they are not as mainstream as ACE and NASM but many people say they have more professional programs which are geared toward college students. ACE and NASM don’t really require a college education although it helps. Long story short, I ended up requesting a change in consideration. After a long talk with my husband, we decided that the content writer position was better suited to my talents. I teach at a local college and writing in depth material coincides better with my true interests and skills. Sitting around and designing programs seemed boring to me as something required fulltime, day in and day out. NHE is an outstanding organization run by very bright people. They only hire the best (not tooting my own horn or anything). I hope this helps you.

If you get offered a job at NHE, take it. With the exception of ACSM and CSCS, they but all other personal trainer certifications to shame. You don’t have to second guess someone with their certificate because only really qualified trainers can get certified there.

    There’s a huge discussion on Linkedin…

Making it difficult to get a personal trainer certificate is the only way to earn the respect of other fitness and health professionals. It's also the only way to prevent a wave of wannabes from taking over this once beloved...and lucrative... industry.

Okay, I went through this whole process - let me detail it for you. I actually read all the LinkedIn threads, and threads on here, before I did anything, and here is what happened. For starters, I have a BS in Exercise Science, NASM-CPT, NASM-CES, working on CSCS, and write for various fitness sites like Stack, CutandJacked, EliteFTS, and since then, was published here (woohoo!).

PS - Ronin, or anyone else, can you verify this company is real? Do you actually work for them?

Okay, so got a similar email you did. Searched, found all the questionable reviews, and the LinkedIn thread. Ohhh boy the LinkedIn thread.

Anyway, I applied, and Anthony Edwards responded. I wrote him a sample program, which he accepted, then filled out a letter of intent. He then replied saying I was approved pending passing the exam, guaranteeing I'd be hired if I pass. At this point, all communication has been prompt, so I assume he's real. Look at the exam, it looks manageable, but a lot of info.

After much thought, I bought the study guide. No, they didn't tell me too, I did it on my own. I figured $200 was good investment for what they offered. Studied for 3 whole weeks, every day. First exam attempt, I felt extremely confident - yeah it was hard, but I studied, have a solid education, and felt confident. Exam took me 3 hours, mostly short answer, and in 2 hours they say I failed. Sketchy, since I don't see how it could be graded that fast.

Now, I am an extremely fast test taker. In five years of college, I ALWAYS finished exams as one of the first three people. So as I went through, anything I was less than 100% sure of, I wrote down.

After failing, I took another attempt two weeks later. At this point I was convinced it was a scam, so I actually spend the time to print the whole study guide out, specifically review the questions I had from before, and take the exam again. Now I flew through this time since it was the same questions, anything I wasn't 100% sure of I double checked, and by my calculations I should have received a 90% or higher.

    Again, failed.

I tell you that I printed the guide, and only used it for one or two references, as some reviews and threads say that if you get caught cheating, you fail. Well, I didn't have the study guide open in the browser obviously, and I didn't even use the one I had printed except once, so no way I cheated. Still failed - although this grading took a week. He told me the max grading time was a week, so on day 6 I emailed to inquire, and immediately received a failing grade email. S-K-E-T-C-H-Y.

I went back to the LinkedIn thread, and guess what. All my posts were blocked. I posted all my issues and questions, and they were never approved. I even messaged some of the posters who claim to work for NHE, and they never replied.

At this point my conclusion is the following:

NHE, while it MAY be real, scams people by offering the PFMS position. I know they don't ask you to buy the study guide, but some like me, do. The LinkedIn is fake and censored, as are many threads. Heck, some of the people here praising it may be NHE, who knows. The info is solid, and I feel like it would be a great certification to have, and who knows, maybe they would have passed me if I hadn't been applying. Try and pass it, but do NOT buy the study guide. They never return phone calls, and I haven't seen anyone on LinkedIn who claims to work for them that looks like a real person.

Oh and the best part? I still get emails every few days saying they found my resume and I qualify. Emailed back asking to be taken off their list, and no response.

Yes i got the email like 4 times saying i qualified.First time i got an email i must say i am shocked because i wasnt expect that.I applied for it first time and got response from anothony edwards.

Here is what he said in first email

"I was notified that you contacted our human resources department in relation to the personal fitness management specialist job position. Before continuing forward, we typically ask each job candidate to design a fitness program for evaluation purposes. This position is essentially one-dimensional in that the sole responsibility is to design fitness programs. Because of this fact, it is imperative that we first establish your level of expertise to determine viability.

Before deciding whether or not you wish to compose a fitness program for evaluation purposes, please view both the PFMS job description and recruitment process web pages. The information contained on both web pages will enable you to better comprehend the PFMS job responsibilities and each recruitment stage from the beginning of the recruitment process to the final hiring decision. After reviewing all of the information provided, you should have a much clearer overview of the position's responsibilities, purpose and its associated recruitment components. The information contained therein should also assist you in ascertaining whether or not you possess the qualifications required to satisfy both the job responsibilities and recruitment process. There is both a PFMS job description and recruitment process web page link positioned at the top of my web office (contact link below).

If you believe you possess the appropriate qualifications for the PFMS position and would have some available time to compose a fitness program for me to evaluate, I can forward a basic fitness assessment called a fitness management profile form. This form will contain the subject's specificities to assist in the development of your fitness program. Simply write back if you wish to proceed and I will forward you the FMPF link."

Hey Brother, maybe you don’t know what a scam is but from everything you posted it sounds as though you wished it were just so that you could land a job. What I mean is, you admitted cheating on the exam by pre answering questions, printing the guide and using it during exam administration. You didn’t ‘fail’ the exam… your exam answers were nullified for cheating. There is a huge difference. You may have gotten ninety percent of the answers correct but because you copied them or referenced the guide, they were all nullified. This is not what a scam is. The scam would have been to pass you, provide you with a certificate and send you out into the field. This cannot be logically argued.

They contacted you because you have a college related degree and multiple personal trainer certifications. If they were trying to pick people to sell study guides to, they certainly wouldn’t select someone like you. You don’t need one. That within itself disproves your ‘theory’. It sounds like FitGuy was a prime mark for a study guide because he was underqualified and would possibly need one to pass the exam but instead of making him go through the process and lead him down the path to purchasing one, they ceased consideration of him and didn’t allow him to get any further in the process. If they only cared about selling study guides, first they would require it as part of the process, and secondly they wouldn’t care about what was on your resume. They wouldn’t ask to see FitGuy’s resume and after discovering he may be underqualified, they would have still put him through the process to get him to buy a study guide. FitGuy proves it’s a legitimate process and to say he’s not real and works for NHE is a HUGE stretch.

The bottom line is you cheated and got caught. You spent six hours total on the exam process and it didn’t amount to jack. That makes you very angry. That is the motivation for flaming them. It’s not complicated to understand. The next natural course of action for you was to go online and tell everyone they are a scam. I’ve seen this exact same story over and over again. You can almost predict it. Pass the exam, the company is great and awesome…Fail the exam, the company is a sham and never existed in the first place. My take… if I found out a certifying body was passing people who indisputably cheated on the exit exam and then sent those same people out into the field as certified professionals I would call the attorney general. That is fraud which is a crime in any state. The public’s safety would be at a huge risk (which because of the quality of personal trainers we have today already is in enough risk). Your post proves they don’t do that and in my book, I respect that. Hey FitGuy, maybe send them your picture. You look qualified to me.

Now it’s SuperBowl Sunday and I need to prepare my 12 layer dip!!!

Hi everybody, I was scheduled to take the exam this morning but I screwed up with the instructions. This is a great thread and I too have gone through the entire NHE hiring process. The emails we get initially are sent by the job search site, not NHE. It’s a generic email that doesn’t address you by name and so that is an issue with the job resume company. Typically there is an ‘opt out’ option so maybe try doing that. The first real email from NHE is also generic in fashion. I think they want everyone to be absolutely certain of the job requirements and recruitment requirements PRIOR to deciding they wish to continue. In law, this is referred to as ‘full disclosure’ and it is smart of them to do that. That way, you can’t later say, ‘hey I wasn’t told I need to take an exam’. Anyway, I plan on rescheduling my exam because out of the four companies I’m pursuing, NHE is at the top. The money isn’t that great but I like the vision of their business model. Good luck!

Thank you very much! I sent Lisa Hillenbach an email this morning explaining how I misunderstood the instructions and she has agreed to let me try again next week. I just hope I didn't screw this up She is my hiring manager and so I thought it best to keep her in the loop as to how things are progressing on my end. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered her on a weekend?

Matt Dustin-You tried to cheat on the exam, which means you needed to in order to pass. No one cheats unless they feel it is a necessary requirement for them to pass. Everyone knows it’s the wrong thing to do, especially when you are being tested for your expertise. The question that begs to be asked is, ‘how legitimate is your exercise science degree from Towson?’ Saying this idea of cheating just happened upon you and it’s not something you ever considered doing before is not one anyone with common sense would believe. If I was your employer, I’d reconsider your tenure there.

There are honest people and there are dishonest people. FitGuy23 was honest and true. He said he ALMOST has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Most people would lie and say they already have one. He may not have been considered because of it, but at least he is an honest person who deserves to be hired by someone. You, on the other hand, seem to be a fraud.

You cheated, got busted and that's that. No one wants a guy who claims to be well educated In a particular field but without provocation buys a study guide to cheat off of.

When your clients Google your name , they will find this thread and they too will question your legitimacy. Maybe you really do not have a B.S. Degree. If you did, you wouldn't have bought a stupid study guide in the first place.

All in all you got what you deserved. Stop writing your post novels explaining yourself because no one really cares.

Dude relax.... you don't have to write a 1000 word response. It's embarrassing. If you cheated then own up to it. It really sounds like that is exactly what happened. There are other cheaters on the web with the exact same story as yours.

Yeah was unnecessary, I realized that. Got a little fired up.

Honestly man, I wish I had cheated, as in word-for-word copied, then I'd at least know why I got disqualified and be fine with that. But trying to write down topics I was unsure of, and re-reviewing those areas for a week? Nah, that's not cheating. I've never taken multiple attempts at any other exams but I'd imagine if I failed another exam and got the chance to retake, I'd do the same thing.

In all seriousness though, all I ever see is people asking about NHE, people saying it's a scam (like me), and people like you guys, who defend them. Where are the NHE employees for all of this? That's all I want to know.

But I realized it came off as too aggressive, that's why I took it down. I'm not trying to flame the NHE or anyone, or else I would have done this months ago when it all went happened. Just trying to start a discussion and ask if you guys, who are always involved in NHE posts, work for them, or know someone who does. Which you still haven't answered.

Why would anyone from NHE post a response? There is nothing to respond to? Actually I would be a bit bewildered if someone from there dignified such a ridiculous claim with a response. As for me, this topic has been addressed and is dead.

This isn't a site for wannabe models. It's a bodybuilding site. No one cares what your f**king face looks like. Visit the site and you'll understand the people who post here. Physiques are all that matter.

I'm not 'always involved' in anything. I try to respond to each and every post in this particular section of the site whenever I'm online. I have 800 posts and only a tiny fraction relate to any one specific subject. I joined to help people. You joined to flame. Your post count is evidence of that. You have no problem writing a freakin 5000 word novel when you want to explain yourself, but can't spare a moment when it comes to addressing the hundreds of questions that go through this site on a daily basis. You are not a true fitness professional at heart. It's only about you and what you can get out of it.

I was contacted last week by NHE for the PTMS position. They found my resume on monster. I have almost 25yrs personal training experience certified by ACE. I'm a little worried about taking the masters exam as I am 44yrs old and don't have the memory retention I used to have. Will it be necessary to study anatomy again? It's great to know all the body parts in English and Latin, but if you don't have practical you don't have anything. I have had people come to me to get hired as a trainer with a 4yr degree in exercise science and don't know the first thing on how to contour a machine to a person's body. Will I hire them? No. Certs and degrees are great, But if you cant get a client from point A to point B in ample time without sustaining an in jury you are of no use. So, why the master's cert? Marketable? perhaps, but you’re marketing you not a piece of paper
