Thanks man. Turns out I was probably in ketosis earlier than I thought. I'd only been testing first thing in the morning, but my sis suggested to test again later in the day (she does low carb) & sure enough I got a stronger reading than I did in the morning. Either way sh!t is working so I'm happy.Delirious Mutant.

03-23-2014, 03:14 AM #5350- Your mindset influences your outcome. It's time to take out phrases like "I can't" or "I don't have time" and replace them with phrases like "I will make the time" and "I will keep working at it until I find a way that works." Success starts with the right mindset and believing in yourself and your dreams.

Haven't posted in a couple days here, but on the topic of carbohydrate intake: I believe the carry over effect is very minimal in surplus/deficit conditions. Surplus, you will stay "leaner" but it's going to be minuscule differences in the end. In a deficit, well a net deficit is a deficit. The higher TEF is very small and the higher satiation factor present with a keto/low carb intake could very well make up for it, depending on the individual. For long term adherence I would always say higher fat, moderate protein, and higher fiber carb sources if you choose to include them in any quantities greater than ketosis.
After talking to some other posters as well as reading other sources, I think it would be a good idea to try a HF/LC diet and track performance, satiation, mood, etc. It would also be wise if you don't enjoy carbohydrate rich foods, have a past family history that would make you more susceptible for any type of medical/metabolic condition, or are looking for a easier way to eat a more whole food diet.
On a side note, Necon how is the keto treating you?
Lee, I didn't get to read the last few pages but from the few above ^ I am getting the idea that you are debating a CKD/higher fat intake bulk in general? My Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=169516313

Necon, ketostix aren't reliable. They're subject to things like dehydration. Take a test before cardio and after, I guarantee after you'll receive a darker reading. They can tell you that you're producing ketones, but past that I'd be wary.
Current plan is slight deficit through week with a big refeed weekly. We'll see, since I'll be starting it when I'm stage lean, it might be silly to worry much. I'd ideally like to stay under 10% and get up to around 240ish by next spring. So I'm planning to take it slow like 2-3 lbs a month, but it'll also depend on where I am with my physique. Goal is to do the HW class next summer which means I'd love to be at a stage weight near 225 when I do it.

Well after doing some research and help form a friend:
"Dad had a barium swallow because when someone gets dys****ia over the age of 50, there is a high suspicion for eso****eal cancer. However, if he has a history of reflux, a peptic stricture is a lot more likely."
" a 1% chance. The only reason we screen it so heavily is because eso****eal cancer is a death sentence. Your dad doesn't have it if this just popped out of the blue...usually there is progressive dys****ia.
Seeing my dad does have Crohn Disease it is unrelated, but it has a strong genetic connection so if I were you, I'd watch for symptoms like blood in stool or random fevers. Crohn does sharply increase your risk of colon cancer, but your dad is probably getting annual prophylactic colonoscopies so he should be fine as long as he's monitored."
Damn...
Parents had enough, packed up and are heading home.
Played CS for almost 2 years and played in the CAL League (Cyberathlete Amateur league) online vs other teams
Played in a few lan parties too.

Exactly this^^^Ketostix are pretty useless. Keep a low enough carb level and you will be in ketosis. Everyone falls into the trap of thinking "being in ketosis" is the important part of the diet. It is important mostly because it helps with energy(much more mental clarity for me) and craving reduction. Everyone always stresses about being knocked out of ketosis too. Doesn't matter, continue and you will be back shortly. Keto as with any other diet isn't magic and fat loss depends on caloric deficit but remaining in ketosis will help energy levels and reduce cravings. The longer you run the diet the faster you return to ketosis after a carbup as well. I highly recommend getting Lyle Mcdonald's book for some good info(pricey but worth it). Not a keto expert but I have run it quite a few times. Feel free to shoot questions and hopefully I can answer or if not refer to the book. <End of incoherent rambling.>

July 18th. So I have lots of time. Prep officially starts May 16th, which is 10 weeks out, but I've already started tightening things up a lot over the past week. I want to hopefully be ready a little early and bump calories into the show. When I start prep, though, I'll be changing things so that fat loss should go faster.
Necon, or anyone, let me know if you would like Lyle's book.
