    Insanely dry lips!!

Does anyone else suffer from insanely dry lips?! I live in a cold climate and of course in winter everything is dryer but this is ridiculous. My lips are constantly peeling, cracking and red because they are so dry. I am starting to think it could all be because I am over doing it with the vaseline to ty and moisturize them.

Does anyone have any better rememdies? I'm desperate!

In the shower I like to use my electric toothbrush on my lips. Then as soon as I get out I put Vit E oil on them. Reapply right before bed. It's been super cold on and off here and my lips are in pretty good shape from doing the above

Hmm good idea! I actually do that with my electric toothbrush as well but then I find myself just putting straight lotion on them after. I never thought to get Vit E oil.
    I will try it. Thanks!

Just ordinary lip balm does the trick - stopped the cracking anyway.

I find my lips have a tendency of becoming immune to lip balms after a while. They will work for a week or two and then be completely useless. I swear, I have bought over 200 brands over the course of the last 2-3 years. I did manage to find a brand that I haven't managed to become immune to (have been using for almost a year)...Kisstixx (couldn't believe I found one that worked from an episode of Shark Tank). The only problem with that brand is the lip balms tastes so good that you may have a tendency of licking it off.

I have 'Burts Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm with vitamin E and peppermint, and just in case you're French and didn't quite get that - Baume pour les levres a la cire d'abeille, a la vitamine e et a la menthe poivree.

Before you all start jumping up and down - I have an English keyboard that doesn't contain an accent button.

The peppermint stops you from licking it off, and well I don't know what the bees wax side of it does.

I've always had chapped lips and had to get stuff on prescription from the doctor but it looked like shiit and wasn't practical to wear in public. Anything with lanolin is a godsend and will sort your lips right out. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour cream is brilliant, a bit pricey but has multiple uses and will last you ages . Otherwise maybe look for something lanolin based that women use for nursing.

Hahah I didn't say I was from Canada. All it said was a cold climate, but good guess. And no I'm not French.

Burts Bees is good, I should give that a try. I have been using straigh tVaseline lately but that isn't even halping anymore. I am going to look into the Lanolin for sure. If that doesn't work, I think it might be time for a prescription.

    Thanks everyone!

I used to be a chapstick / lip stuff addict; eventually I cut it out after using just coconut or olive oil. I only need to reapply some of the oil in cold weather; but since I live in Florida, it's unnecessary.

Without getting too into it -- after using similar products and always NEEDING something lip-related by my side, when I researched ingredients I realized it wasn't really moisturizing at all, and only applying a layer over the lips that eventually feels drying.

It just becomes a cycle of use/dry/reuse.

I used to have this problem - like beyond ridiculous peeling and cracking. The dermatologist gave me some steroid cream to use for just a couple of days to heal it up a little, and told me I was probably messing with them more than I realized. I swore that wasn't the case, but caught myself reaching up to peel the dry spots quite a bit once I was being more mindful of it (ew I know). Once they healed a little, I was able to keep myself from touching/licking/messing with them, and while I still have a problem from time to time, vaseline or burt's bees will do the trick now. I got some lanolin too, but it's just so thick! Anyway good luck. I feel your pain.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the importance of water. Keep yourself hydrated in the colder months to help prevent dry skin/lips. I drink at least 1gal/day. If the water is too cold to comfortably drink, just add hot water to warm it up to room temperature & chug away.

As someone stated- water is key to preventing dry skin. I try to drink 7 large glasses a day because here in New England it feels like -30

I did a little google research and learned a few things....did you change up your toothpaste? (I did, and it is already helping. And I know already that I can't use Crest at all). Also, do you by chance use paperclips at work and stick them in your mouth. Yep I used to do that too......if you have a nickel allergy that will cause problems.

I recently bought Burt's Bees and changed my toothpaste and it is helping...slowly...look for a toothpaste that does not contain (I believe it is called) Sodium laurel sulphate ( ? ). I read all the causes on Dr. Oz's site (believe me, I don't read much of his stuff because I think it turns people into a bunch of hypochondriacs but it actually made sense on this one).

Wow, sorry to hear that. I have never done it but my friend swears by naturopaths. If you rdoctor won't help you out then maybe try one of those. I'd assume it is somethign as simple as an allergy and might take the process of eliminiation to figure it out unfortunately. I know how crazy it drives me so I can sympathize with you

hey every1 i finally found something that works for my lips.

it is called vaseline lip therapy with cocoa butter.

i bought it yesterday and within like 3 hours of applying it for the first time my lips started to peel a very thin clear layer of skin. i put some more on throughout the day and before bed. i woke up with almost perfect lips!

it not only made them really soft and moist, but it changed them from a reddish color to a soft pink color.

and it smells really great too =] hope this helps!

That's awesome! I might have to try that one!

I was going to mention that for the last 2 days I stopped using anything on my lips except some pure lotion and some antibiotic ointment for a crack. They are SO much better. I was piling on so much crap on my lips that I considered maybe this was my problem. All those lip balms just aren't good in excess!

Get Blistex DCT Lip Balm SPF 20!! They sell it at the front of CVS and drugstores, its in a little pink container. When I had really bad chapped lips I tried EVERYTHING, exfoliating, drinking tons of water, vaseline, and this is the only thing that worked. Put on a thick layer of it before bed.

I have severe KP so my skin is very dry and sensitive...can't use anything with SLS or mineral oil/petroleum (and all of their derivatives) but I have found soap that helps my skin and their lip balms are amazing and actually work. The company is Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. I believe they're based out of Ohio. Lots of good stuff

Burt's Bees crew checking in. I use the one with honey. Recently switched over from Chapstick. Noticed I don't use it nearly as much during the day because it lasts longer. Will also stay on during meals too which I like too. Also, when I use a sugar scrub in the shower I'll lightly use some on my lips too.

In the UK we have something called baby lips, if not Nivea lip balm.. They do a repair one.. Makes your lips insanely soft!
