Went from 3 x 5 x 185 to 3 x 3 x 365 in 5 months of squatting a minimum of 3 times a week, trying to add 5 pounds each session.
5 pounds each session went to just 2 times week, then eventually just one time a week. 3 x 5, went to 2 x 5, to 1 x 5, (with drop sets, always drop sets), then eventually to triples. Some 20 rep squat sets for sh 1ts and giggles (and some hypertrophy benefits)
Diet, sometimes I got my cals in and on some days/weeks it was meh. If I was feeling like sh 1t going in, then I just use a weight I used 2-3 weeks ago and go for reps and focus on bar speed. Even on warmups with 135, 185, and 225 I always focus on bar speed.
That's it really, still trying to get to 500

No idea how you guys can be squatting for a year seriously and still only on 2 plates. Something is seriously wrong with either your training, diet, or intensity. Probably all of them. Progressively overload. Doesnt matter how you do it, just do it someway. 3 sets of 5 and adding 5 lbs every other workout or every workout if you can should atleast get you to a 3 plate squat. You should be just as intense on squats as you are on bench, or curls, or whatever your favorite exercise is. and squat more than once a week. Twice a week has worked for me. You just gotta want it

Good form and time will get you a good squat. I lower the weight a little and put my butt on my calves. After doing this for a couple weeks go back to a parellel squat and you'll be suprised at the weight change. If you feel like your butt is going to fall out your form is probably poor. Fucus on correct form with a weight that is ALMOST too much, but one that you can control through the movement. Maybe find a spotter so you have more confidence in the lift.

took me 2.5 years of serious training to be able to hit 350X1 on squat.
i used to think i was a beast when i managed to hit 225, now all i can think about is getting to dat dere 405
just keep squatting OP, and do a variety of training, mix in high weight low reps some days, low/moderate weight and high reps another.
use a belt when u are reaching for a higher weight, just try not to rely on it too much. if u can hit a weight atleast 5 times, dont use a belt

for me its the diet. Ive been on a calorie deficit for the whole time ive been lifting. Cant really help it because i was a fat PoS when i started.
I can already hit 225 for 5 reps, im aiming for 3 sets of 5 on 225 by the one year mark. Ill probably get around 240 if my programming is accurate.“No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training…what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”

thats a good theory but u also have to remember that everyone different. just because u got certain gains in X amount of time doesnt mean everyone else will, theres just alot of variables to account for. sure u can control for variables by having a good program and eating right, getting in ur macros and resting, but theres alot of other things in the mix as well.
also, whats the big hurry to get so strong so quickly, i mean sure we have a tendency to want the most right away, but u gotta remember that if ur in this for the long term, your strength is going to plateau anyways. just because u can add 10 lbs bi-weekly right now doesnt mean that u will be able to do that indefinitely.
i would much rather prefer to make slow and steady gains, while staying safe, and be able to keep making gains for a longer period of time.
once u become a very advanced bodybuilder ur only going to be able to add strength marginally.

I am not talking about any time table, im simply saying a 2 plate squat shouldnt be that difficult for many people to achieve if you are a serious lifter. My 120 pound girlfriend has been squatting for less than a year and can do 165 for 3 sets of 5 and she started out with the bar. pretty sure you guys can achieve some good results too.
Whats the big hurry? There is no rush. If you can progress faster than not, why would you chose to not progress? It is not less safe. I feel like most of you just make some dumb excuses like that. Oh i want to stay safe so ill add 5 pounds a month. And obviously you wont be able to add 5lb every workout or every other one, but why not until you can't anymore?
You are not a very advanced bodybuilder so don't train like one or have the mentality of one.Log
