Thanks. Fell off the wagon again lol. It's been so long ago, but we ended up not shooting that weekend. Don't even remember why we didn't. Too bad because I was looking forward to it!

As soon as I get going again, something happens and I fall off the wagon again :/ My dog did not tolerate the anesthesia for his radiation treatments very well. His upper airway is damaged from the tumor/tumor removal and he got really phlegmy after three treatments. Ended up in the ER in an oxygen cage for five days. The good news is the tumor has not grown back in this throat, but the mass in his middle ear that we thought was severe inflammation is in fact cancer. We won’t put him through another surgery to remove it. He has been through so much already. So we have stopped radiation treatments and will continue chemo. Poor guy has been near death two times now and keeps fighting back. We joke that maybe he is a cat.

I decided I’m done with 5/3/1. I just can’t seem to lift 4/week. I haven’t lifted in almost two weeks. So I’m switching back to PR’s DUP routine which I can make into 3/week. Funny thing….I started this program a year ago to the date Sad thing….my lifts aren’t anywhere close to where they were a year ago

I had planned on 155 for working sets of squats. But the warm up of 135 told me otherwise. I’m annoyed, but it is what it is. Trying not to flip out about it. Ok I did a little, but got over it pretty quickly Everything else felt pretty good.

Prepped a bunch of food today. Have not done that in forever! I was almost giddy weighing and organizing everything today. Makes it so much easier when food is there and ready to go.

Really hoping to be more active in here. Everyone here is so good at keeping up with journals...I'm lucky to even log in and update my own lol!

So I had planned on doing a KB class tonight. I did my workout yesterday in the morning and was on my feet all day working around the house, working outside and going to the grocery store. I finally sat down last night to update my journal. Well, I went to get up and I couldn't!! My right hip flexor was pissing and moaning and I almost fell over when I tried to stand up. It was pathetic. I couldn't get comfortable in bed last night which was so annoying. I was able to get out of bed without falling over this morning. As the day went on I felt evenly sore on both sides and it seemed a bit better, but I still couldn't bend over or squat down. I have to plug in my dog's vaporizer at work which is under a desk and requires me to get on the floor to plug it in...I felt like an 80 year old getting down/up! WTF...is this how 42 is going to be?!?! Oy vey!! Tomorrow's workout should be interesting. I hope I can make it to KB class on Wednesday. I generally like being a little sore, but this is ridiculous. Sucks getting old!

    135x3
    135x3

    135x3
    135x3

    Pullups

    Pallof Press
    25x12
    25x12
    25x12

My legs were still super sore tonight, but I managed to get this done. I figured I’d try front squats since I hadn’t done them in forever. Well, it turns out I still hate them! Bench felt so heavy at 75, so I lowered it a bit. Felt ok, but last set was kind of blah. DLs were not very fast at all. My hammies were screaming at me.

Hoping to go to KB class tomorrow night. I haven’t been in a few weeks…I hope she doesn’t try to kill me!

Thanks FA! I survived lol! They are pretty intense. We warm up with 5 minutes of turkish get-ups and then do different ladders throughout. Swings, squats, clean, press, then deadlifts and pushups, then swings, squats and bear crawls (who would think that crawling like a bear would be so damn hard...my quads were on fire!), swings and various types of carries (overhead, suitcase or racked). Each class is always different, so that makes it fun.

I haven't worked out in a couple of weeks and knew I couldn't go right back to where I was...but 135 on squats :/ Oh well!

I'm horrible at counting and keeping track. I have to log each rep/set. If I try to do all 5 sets without logging it, I forget which set I am on! But yet I can remember every word to Guns N Roses Sweet Child O Mine lol!

Thanks Hammie! He's being so spoiled...not like he wasn't before...but even more now! I have several friends IRL who have lost their pets recently or dealing with sick pets. It breaks my heart. I feel like I'm more sad when it is a pet vs a human. A human can understand why they are sick, but poor animals don't know why the hell that can't run and play like they used to.

That is cool about the apple watch. What app do you use on your phone? I work out at home and just have my laptop downstairs with me and log everything that way.

    135x12

Legs were a wee bit sore still, but not too bad. Lats and shoulders were the ones screaming today. Speed squats at 105 felt pretty good. Lowered incline bench since I hadn’t done it in a while. DLs were kind of tough, but not awful.

I’m so excited that I got in all 3 workouts and a KB class this week!! I’m getting closer to loving lifting again and that makes me happy

I was looking back at when I was lifting consistently (August 2016 ) my squat was 190, DL was 180 and bench was 90 (I think it had been 100 at one point). Those numbers seem so far away I’m determined to get back there though!!

It'll come back quicker than you think. Muscle memory and all that I was just talking to my coach yesterday about how pull-ups are one of those use 'em or lose 'em thing. I had stopped doing them for a while and even though I was technically stronger, when I randomly decided to start doing them again, I could barely get one.

    How's your sweet pup doing?

I hope so. Right now my muscle memory is like wtf Totally agree about the pull-ups. I think I was up to 3 sets of 4 or 5 (still nothing compared to Hammie!! And at a KB class a while back, I managed to do 7. But nope....1.5 it is for now!

My sweet boy is hanging in there. We stopped radiation after 3 treatments because his airway wasn't tolerating the anesthesia. He's still doing oral chemo and we'll see how that goes. For the most part he still acts normal and you really can't tell he is sick. He has a slight head tilt still and every so often he stumbles, but he is still playing, eating and being silly. Until that all stops, we will just keep spoiling him

Winter was back in St. Louis over the weekend. I’m sure it will be summer in a few days. Mother nature sure has been confused lately.

We haven’t been to the lake in a few weeks. It is so nice staying home and getting stuff done around the house!! I cleaned out our linen closet yesterday. So much crap in there. I don’t even keep our towels and sheets in there. Threw away tons of expired cold medicine. We keep some in our pantry in the kitchen and I guess some in our linen closet. Had no idea any of it was even in there. So many little sample sizes of shampoo, lotions, face creams, etc. The few things remaining are now in nice clear shoe box containers. We shall see how long it stays like this!

Had mexican for dinner tonight for FIL’s 75th birthday. Skipped out on margaritas, but had lots of guacamole and chips

Nice work with the weights. I like a slightly wide stance, not what I'd call "wide stance" but not narrow either, lol. And yay for butt fire! From the RDLs, and not the Mexican food.

Yummy, though I'd pick the margarita over guac, and chips... partially because I don't now if I like guac.

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been MIA. Thanks for checking in on me!

After losing my dog in March, I was a complete mess. He went everywhere with us and was like our child. My heart was broken and I didn't care about anything!!

In May I attempted working out again. Jacked up my knee and thought for sure I would need surgery. Did a few MAT and chiro sessions and nothing was helping. Had to go through the whole process and finally got an MRI in August. Found out that nothing was wrong :/ But I still had horrible pain when I would go up/down stairs. Back to MAT and had several sessions and determined my glutes weren't firing and my quads were taking over causing this pain in my knee. But I still didn't care about working out. I just jacked around with light weights and KBs and made no real effort. I used to love lifting and honestly I was at the point that I didn't care if I ever lifted again.

During all of this we got a new puppy...another Boston Terrier. Still asking myself WHY did we do this?? Puppies are crazy and he is nothing like my sweet Yadi But he's getting better and I do love him a little bit. We named him Beacon. Found this quote and thought it was fitting "A mother's happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories". So he was supposed to be my Beacon of Light, but he's been a little turd for the most part. Instead of lifting, I've been obsessing with feeding Beacon a raw diet. A diy raw diet of meats, organs, bones, etc. He has been eating better than I have.

Hubby has been giving me trouble and saying he misses his workout partner, etc. So I finally got my butt into the gym Tuesday night and actually did a squat with a barbell!! I think my max squat before was 185 or 190...and I barely got 95 lol!! I'm mad at myself for waiting so long to start again. Have lost any muscle I put on in the previous three years. Luckily I had been starving myself, so my weight is ok.

So I hope to be back in here more often. Can't wait to catch up in the journals. It is great to see so many familiar journals still going strong!!

    Happy New Year!!

    2018 goals:
Lift more than I did in 2017, which won't be hard because I haven't lifted much since March 2017
Build back the muscle I lost while I went through a "I hate lifting" phase
    Love lifting again

    Hey Jen, welcome back!

It may take time to get used to Beacon. I can appreciate what it must be like to have lost your Yadi. I had to have my cat Charlie put to sleep on new year's day and I've had to push myself to keep lifting and keep it together at work, when all I want to do is hide away/sleep. I've not felt sadness like this before.

So is your knee better now? I'm sure you'll get back up to where you were pretty quickly - all about the muscle memory I guess?

Thank you! It feels good to be back! Knock on wood, my knee is doing pretty good.

Saw in your journal about Charlie. So sorry. I completely understand not feeling sadness like this before. Same for me. Yadi's been gone for 9 months and I think about him daily and can count on one hand the amount of days that I haven't cried in 9 months. Beacon has helped fill the void in my heart, but he's also making me miss Yadi so much because he's such a little turd. He's doing much better. I really love him when he's sleeping He goes to work with us everyday, but for the past two weeks he's been going to doggie school during the day. He has two more weeks to go.

Lifting hasn't been too exciting yet. I'm doing a program that Partyrocking had posted a while back. Just getting used to actually using a barbell and working on form and stuff like that. So far my knee isn't complaining about anything. I love that my glutes are sore! I'm hoping that I will continue to love it!

Hopefully doggie school will help him be less of a turd lol. I think it's hard not to compare a new pet with the previous one we loved so much. Yadi will always be in your heart

Hope your lifting continues to go well

    Welcome back!

Sorry about Yadi! Hopefully doggie school helps w/ Beacon.

I know what it feels like to have a little turd for a dog. Just yesterday, our dog ate the cleaning cloth for our glasses. Just barged into the guest room, grabbed it, and swallowed it.

    Sorry about your doggy.
Puppy may be a pain, but he'll be a doggy soon enough. Pups are always a handful, mostly with training.

Yay forgetting back in the gym, and for motivational hubs. It's helpful when your partner lifts so you have that support.
