    Missy we think got third...she was rolling right along in the care deadlift and tweaked a hamstring/SI joint...she finished and even won the truck pull but, it very dissapointed. Still, 3rd is a big deal at a natl event.

    Not sure what Thad placed but, no zero's and was one of the few to finish the truck pull.

    I have low expectations of this contest. I was so under prepared and probably what I have going for me is experience and strength from PL. First even was circus db and my competition zero'd so, I did one rep and won the event. Next was car deadlift. 3rd place got 6 reps and 2nd 9, so I pulled 10 for the win. I never expected to be be in first after 2 event. 3rd event was tire flip and sled drag. I got 3rd in this and was still in first. i was pretty frustrated as the tire should have been a good event. We had an odd tire and my 1st and 3flips were great but, 2 and 4 I got a smooth side, old tire, and I struggled and strained my right hand. I was still up though. Truck arm over arm was a concern. We were supposed to d a 2" rope and it was 3". I knew I couldn't beat them with my hand so I did enough to score points. I was dissapointed as I knew these guys are better at stones. 3rd place went frist and got 2, I was tied for first going into stones and basically knew I was going to get 2nd best cae scenario and I think he gassed himself on the truck. He zero'd...I loaded the 275 stone and walked away with the win. THis one is a feather in my hat. Epsecaily since I felt like I could have won last year and didn't get to compete. This is the 3rd strength sport I've been able to win natls. I'm truly shcoked and humbled.

    I think I have everyone online taken care of with sessions mostly. I'm working a little today and then we are going to get out and see a few things. I am pretty sure this is what it feels like to be hit by a car.

    So, I made a purchase today that wasn't bourbon...

    I got 2 of the hammers and two weights for Highland games. Next years nationals in SM will have some throwing, like a sand bag toss. So, I have a pal that is going to help me with a standard and I will begin the process of learning to the throwing events. There is a local HG in Hermitage and then some close by so, I may try to do a comp a year to see if I can be any good at all at this.

    Missy and I loaded sand into two kegs to make a 100 and 125 and then loaded 30 into a Rogue throwing bag. MIssy qualified for USS Pro Womens worlds. They will be in Memphis in October so, she has to start training for that. The hip/ham injury may not allow for squatting right now but, she did walk with the yoke yesterday with about 35% and then did a few other things. So, time will tell. FOr natls next year, we will be throwing 3 bags over a standard instead of stones. This could be a good event for me.

    just to be warmed up sufficiently

    Close stance seems to be easy out of the gate and honestly, this is what I have done for 15 years now. Sometimes instead of comp, I'll do a wide set and just make sure the hips are good. This is all I do though and then add weight. Squats have always been like that but, I can tell you, as I age, it may come to doing a few things prior to getting under the bar.

    Starting out closer makes sense.

    I'm glad you put my wide stance at the end. They aggravate my hip flexors so if done first I'm pretty sure I'd be ruined for comp stance.
