op speaks the truth.
this group of people grew up with social skills. everyone in your neighborhood your age was a friend somehow. even if you fought you'd still end up playing a game with them again.
football in the street , all time quarterback was the older kids who had nothing to do etc
you could play a game called smear the queer at school and the teachers would announce it like it was a gift
you learned to deal with stuff like bullies, talking face to face and if you got a girls number you didn't hide behind texts or creep her fb. you had to deal with the butterflies of timing when you were going to call, what you were going to say and trying not to sound to eager..until her DAD answers and you had to ASK him if she was home to talk on the phone..all that chit built character.
we were the only gen to witness tupac, biggie, kurt cobain, dude from alice n chainz and blind melon rise to fame and die tragically. Everything was original - the television shows were all instant classics (transformers , gijoe, ninja turtles) music was at its peak ; rap had nwa, ice cube dre snoop pac biggie jayz just starting up- those were the days
op is rep'd

Get to know your parents: you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings: they're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Enjoy your body: use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it: it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Quite possible GOAT time thread. Haven't read it but OP's post is spot on.
I am a 1985 child. A merger between the new and the old. A beautiful canvas on which the west and east have collided to create a masterpiece. That is a true 80s child.
1990 and beyond? Get out my way.
The new generations are dumb as shi*, act like sheep and have no idea what they are doing. Just mindless drones.

I was born in 1993 and still played outside everyday in the summer. But who was bike rides and road hockey?
I respect wood.
The sloots were jocking.
Perfect human misc standards.

1988 crew. Never had to ask to go outside, especially when we lived on a base. I remember my dad "getting the internet" at work and we went to look at the American Girls site once and were like "meh." But I learned to type really fast on ICQ later. Didn't have a cellphone until I was 17. Still only use it for calls/texts unless I need directions.

1986 checking in.
Classic case of "This generation sucks, we used to have it/be so much better". It's what today's kids will say in 20 years too.
That said, I can't agree more that kids today suck balls when it comes to social skills and their sense of entitlement. I think the latter is actually the worst thing happening now. The world doesn't ow you sh!t boy.
On the other hand, I believe things will change and the financial crisis will somewhat reset some things like how easy it used to be to lend money. It's not a bad thing that young people just can't go buy a house without any financial backing anymore.. so perhaps there still is hope. But I'm drunk now so there's that.Iron, sometimes it sets my teeth on edge, other times it helps me control the chaos.

I bent the top of a stop sign up, and ran a shoelace through the hole and tried that. It didn't work too well. I thought my sled was the coolest even though it didn't work at all, lol
One year in high school this kid somehow got ahold of the hood of a Honda Civic. That has been the best sled to date."That's the cool thing about lifting weights, man. They get older, I stay the same age." - David Wooderson

87. So many feels itt
I disagree with all the hate to the new kids though. I feel every generation says "oh man kids these days" lmao. Things change. What it means to 'be social' changes. I might even argue some degree of the supposedly antisocial behavior could be attributed to the nature of the landscape and the fear mongering. Brb mass killings, chris hansen, etc. Just some thoughts. What kind of people can share every aspect of their life online, Skype for hours with friends, text constantly all day but 'have no social skills'? Maybe they just don't like talking to old ****s who don't get it?
back to the nostalgia:
forts
fighting
trampolines
burning stuff in the woods
bikes and jumps and ****
wandering for hours
TREE FORTS ERMEHGERD
bikini pics in magazines like gq etc lmao
not carrying a phone
not checking a phone constantly
not instinctually pulling out a phone for distraction when waiting in line etc
IGNORING PEOPLE cause no phone
