Last week I had a mole removed and they sent it away for a biopsy. Got a call today that it was "stage 4 melanoma".
Now I'm freaking out. Has anyone delt with this?
Am i a goner?

12-26-2013, 12:05 PM #4Stage IV: The 5-year survival rate is about 15% to 20%. The 10-year survival is about 10% to 15%. The outlook is better if the spread is only to distant parts of the skin or distant lymph nodes rather than to other organs, and if the blood level of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is normal.
Stay safe, OP.

Where was the site of the melanoma? Stage IV melanoma means that the cancer metastasized and spread to other distant lymph nodes and organs. Did they look at any other lymph nodes or diagnose you with any other cancers?
Unfortunately, stage IV melanoma has a poor survival rate.
EDIT: FYI
If you notice any of these, get them checked out ASAP.أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله Ùˆ أشهد أن Ù…Øمد رسول الله

Stage IV melanoma is by definition distant metastasis and you haven't even had a sentinel node biopsy, something doesn't make sense.
Most important prognostic factor for melanoma is depth of invasion. If deep enough in mm or with histological imaging showing increased cell division, then a sentinel lymph node biopsy is warranted as lymph nodes will be the first place for the cancer to spread. If this is negative it is assumed cancer has not spread. If positive they do further workup to determine if it's spread elsewhere (stage IV).
How the fuk are you stage 4 cuh?

Stage IV is pretty rough, I'm sure you googled it. Good luck.

Thanks guys, the mole was always normal until earlier this year it got cut/ripped off during some rough intercourse. I didnt think anything of it until the past few weeks when the mole was opening and bleeding every night diring sleep.
Also maybe its is not stage four. As others pointed out there is no telling if it has spread or not until i have the sentinal biopsy.
Thanks guys and stay stafe.
