You are more than likely VERY VERY VERY quad dominant. It happens in some athletes. At about parallel your hamstring are at maximum extension as you sit back, they began to lose tension the deeper you go and your quads go into extension and build a stretch reflex when going ATG.
You probably have extremely weak hamstrings and glutes if your having trouble moving more weight with parallel squats as opposed to ATG (barring any technique issues you may not be aware of)
Core strength/breaking at the knees first/mobility+flexabilityTo the ego, the present moment hardly exists. Only past and future are considered important. This total reversal of the truth accounts for the fact that in the ego mode the mind is so dysfunctional. It is always concerned with keeping the past alive, because without it - who are you?

Just highly doubt anyone that squats about two plates can actually do it ATG.
After realizing how bad my flexibility was on squats (i did two plates thinking I was the chit), I stopped doing squats and worked on flexibility.
I am now a snob in the gym. I look at most people squatting and just cringe. Its so obvious how non flexible they are. I'm sure the misc is the exact same way.
Just check out this video down below. The old man is probably more flexible than 99% of the misc. Watch 2:00 in exactly.

It's impressive for people who don't have the flexibility to atg in the first place. But if you do, it's not really that impressive. I've been barely lifting the past 4-5 months, like 2 or 3 times per month, and I can still do 225 atg pretty easily.

Rarely see anybody go parallel (real parallel not hams parallel) over 185.
Honestly just seeing atg is impressive even if its only a plate lol.
225 atg is my working set, I think 1rm I hit 275 but I might have been helped. My brother was spotting me and he touched my elbows but he said he didn't actually help me lol.
I always go hips below knees too, regardless of weight. Lots of assistance work helps with strength.Last edited by hellbilly1912; 12-23-2013 at 04:15 PM.

Also some of you guys don't realize that some people are simply not built for that 'ATG looking' squat no matter how flexible they are. Look at Lu Xiaojun squat for instance. He's probably more flexible than 99.9% of the miscers but his squat doesn't completely look ATG compared to guys like Clarence Kennedy. But that depth is still ATG for him while he maintains straight torso angle. So, if you think everyone can touch their upper hamstring to calves with enough flexibility then you are wrong.

nowhere near impressive impo
I'm at 275 right now 3x4 atg,
i wanna get to 3plWhen I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that being shredded was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘shredded’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

Different for everyone, some people can squat that the first time they do squats others can't even do the bar, that's why I think it's do retarded to say you should be at such and such a weight easily in a month or whatever
I do it because i can, i can because i want to, i want to because you sed i couldent.

Honestly it depends on your goals and what your looking for.
Since I do a lot of Olympic lifting, I focus on breaking at the knees and hips at nearly the same time (maybe knees slightly ahead). If you look at a squatter who leads with their hips, in order to maintain a neutral spine, they must tilt the truck forward, loading your hamstrings and glutes with the weight (at least to parallel) this is how you see most powerlifters squat. Again, not wrong, it just depends on your goal.
The reason why I, and a lot of Oly lifters focus on breaking at the knees is this forces you to keep your back vertical. A vertical back is essential in receiving the bar in the Clean and the Snatch. Any tilt in your trunk is going to lead to dumping the bar forward when trying to receive it.
To become good at the O-lifts, any movement you do must mimic the clean and snatch as much as possible since the lifts test not only strength but neuro-muscular efficiency.
I think what most people do (and when I say most I mean actual lifters) is a hybrid style squat which is High bar/lead with the hips/trunk tilts a bit/Natural Bottom out position
There is nothing wrong with any form, again, it just depends on your goals and what your looking for.Last edited by apolloman; 12-23-2013 at 06:45 PM.
