What is the purpose of the fat pad again? I understand the benefit of having a wide pad, but I prefer a firm padding that doesn't really compress. So what is the benefit of having something 4" thick?

So what's the question then? lol
This.
My bench has little tabs/wings that stick out that support the bench. Longer tabs would support a wider bench pad, killing the the need for 2 layers of plywood.
Width wise, shoulder stability.
Thickness wise, overcoming engineering issues of benches meant to support 10" to 12" pads via 2 layers of plywood. Not sure about the rest.
My Rae Crowther pad is almost like using soft plywood, lol. If it was 12", it would be a great bench.
The fat pad seems like a great idea on paper, but it's not compatible with anything. It really wasn't thought through. Unless you need a bench, using this pad on an existing one turns a basic upgrade into a project. I'm curious how many pads Rogue actually sells.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

Amen...I hear people benching with 20"+ benches and saying it doesn't matter. I'm 6'3" and have plenty long legs...it's night and day. My Monster bench and FatPad sat idle, outside of resting my butt, for 6+ months for this reason. Enter Mech's custom bench frame...I use it all the time. That said my Rogue Adjustable is just fine and the 12" pad is great too...this is pretty much my incline/seated and dedicated dumbbell bench now. I've always thought Rogue doesn't get enough credit for the pads...really rock solid stuff, good dimensions, material and well made. I actually miss my Rogue pad on the Reverse Hyper.

your probably right but to those of us with a history of shoulder troubles it feels good to bench on and thats worth the extra cash.
My history of shoulder issues kept me mostly avoiding the bench press so maybe I'm not setting up correctly but I feel perfectly comfortable on the bench and the added height doesn't bother me a bit. I actually prefer it.
Of course my experience with regular pad width/height tended to be big box store weight benches or adjustable benches so a good quality bench of a standard width/height could be just as good.

As has been said, fat pad is 1.5" of plywood and 3" of foam. How thick is the regular rogue pad? 2.5" overall? So 3/4" plywood, 1-3/4" foam?
The double plywood is most likely because of the extra overhang on the sides. Seeing as bench pressing is nearing 1100 lbs, it's probably safer to have it doubled.▪█──█▪ Equipment Crew #61 ▪█──█▪

Three boxes that travelled to USA and then with LTL to europe, after a few months they finally arrived.
Attention to safe packaging, everything numbered since it would land first to empirefitnessequipment and then continue. A huge amount o buble wrap, the recycling container filled up.Last edited by BOZZ; 08-24-2017 at 12:16 PM.

Pro quality items, know I do understand what all the hype is about, photos do not do justice. Also excellent communication service and assistance since I had to manage items fron canada to a used fitness equipment warehouse and then to a port etc etc europe, customs... Again the best aspect is that there are people you are happy to deal with, others not. Mech6 is one of the good ones by far. http://imgur.com/a/dhe7s
I also am the proud owner of the last indexable chin up bars and one of the last monolift pairs he made, unique i guess in greece, lol.

Whenever I see this thread bumped I think it's Mech saying he's back to building custom things and I get all happy. Then I'm let down when I see that's not the case.
Congrats Taso on the great equipment{5'7" and under #1}

Has any other manufacturer come out with a rack mounted reverse hyper with the ability to be attached to a separate stand alone frame like Mech's yet? I didn't think I needed/wanted a reverse hyper until my back started getting sore recently. I don't have much room for a floor standing one at the moment.
I've tried contacting BWTG for custom builds in the past but he just referred me to beast metals in CA due to shipping costs from NY.▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #48 ▪██─────██▪

To Mech's point above - trying a RH means using one for a while and seeing the effect on your back. The route I went was the Rogue RH-2...cheapest model available at the time and still quality. if you can spare enough room even temporarily, you'll determine if it's helpful to you. Rogue has strong resale so you'll be able to get rid of it in the event it doesn't work OR works so well you want one as a permanent addition to your gym. At that point you might get someone to fabricate you brackets for it (Mech if he gets into that again or other) and just toss the legs.
Personally, I'll never be without one now. It's an item that will be pried from my cold dead hands.▪█─────█▪ Rogue Barbell Crew #27 ▪█─────█▪
