Received my Mech flip-downs yesterday for my R3BT. He had one pair left I believe. Can't say enough good things about them. The finish is awesome and the fit is perfect. Packaging was terrific. Thanks, Mech.

PS: Please start making monos again soon

Nice flip downs👍👍. I hope Mech comes back too ☹️

I was hopeful to see about maybe having him build handles/arm rests for my Legend Belt Squat machine and a few other things...

I welded this 45deg hyper back in 2004, before I had access to a laser cutter or even a MIG. Whole thing is TIG welded, then some welds were redone with stick. All holes were done on a mill.
I gave it away about 10 years ago, and it's been in a few gyms, last one being an ex gf. Finally got it back after she prefered the GH roller and ran out of space.
It looks like crap, but the pads feel awesome and it gets the job done.
I forgot how much I loved this movement.

BTW: a lot of bare steel tubing, used in various garages/basements for 13 years and not much rust.

July must be the season of 45 degree hypers (I just purchased the Body-Solid one last week waiting for it to arrive).

What a tank! Hahaha as I was reading the post I thought it was gonna be available at first! Congrats on getting the 45 back Mech.

Lol, some of it is telespar, but only added on top for band pegs. Frame is 2x2 11g.
And the roller selector tube as well, although it's nested in something stronger.
As I said, this was before laser tube cutter.

    That would be very interesting.
I would consider things like your monolifts and rack-mounted reverse hyper.

Like many, many others, I've been waiting to see if you might ever come out of "retirement".

In the past few months, I've made some pretty good progress on my bench, and now I REALLY want one of those Thompson Fat Pad benches you made a few months ago.

Assuming you don't come out of retirement soon, any chance you could post on here or e-mail or PM me the CAD designs so someone else could fab it?

You just assured yourself that Mech will never make anything for you.
He's actually going to be the lead designer on Marcy's new 'home' line of 18 gauge equipment. He said he's done dealing with stronger gauge steel and using 18 gauge will make things so much easier.

I don't know about that, last I heard he sources his steel from Canada which we all know is inferior to what we have here in the United States. Of course I almost returned my Mono's when I heard the news, but the cost of shipping would be prohibitive and I'm all out of duct tape (used it on my stinky plates).

Assuming you don't come out of retirement soon, any chance you could post on here or e-mail or PM me the CAD designs so someone else could fab it?

It's fine as long as you stay under the 135 lbs max.

Another option is local. Someone at a metal/fab shop can easily cut a few inches off. Each leg of the Monster Bench has 3 holes and if you drop it down one once cut enough you get a 17" bench.

That said, no wheels and those Monster foot pads make the bench unweildly unless stationary.

I still don't get why you guys would prefer to permanently cut a bench down instead of building a platform up for your feet.

What if someone comes out with something better than the Fat Pad but isn't as thick?

I could justify another bench since I could set up stations for lifting (multiple dumbbells set up for an easy drop set).
I cannot justify building a wooden platform that's only used when benching & figuring out where to store it. That would also make setting up a real pain as my feet move a lot while creating tension.

Also, I know I can't play "what if" scenarios. It's possible that no one will ever make or, or it will come out in 5 years. If I needed it for shoulder stability, I'd rather get it 5 years earlier & not risk further damage to the joint.

You do bring up an interesting point though. I find it puzzling that on one has gone to any of the custom fabricators & asked if they could make a 14.5" wide pad (or width of your choice). Why is the pad 4.5" thick, though? Making it a standard thickness would open up the market for this pad. In my case, I have a bench pad that has still held up for about 15+ years, but it has a tear. This would be a really simple, nice upgrade, but now I have to modify my bench or build a foot platform? To hell with that!

Yea I am kinda on the fence about it too - my pad is torn, why not put the money toward a fat pad.

What I don't get is some people claiming they need the bench to be 17" because that is competition height, but you aren't using a fat pad in competitions.

It does seem like this would be an easy enough project for a few sales.

I've been wondering this for a while... Their sales would increase like 10 fold if they could make this a standard thickness that you could just swap with any flat bench. I'm no equipment designer/engineer, so who knows if that's even possible, but it SEEMS like it could be done..
