    Electronics engineer here.

Feel free to consult me for advice.

I work mostly in industrial companies. I started as an automation engineer in a telecom company, then I became a system engineer in the defense sector. I am currently a hardware engineer in the automobile industry. I have on purpose aimed to diversify my skill sets. I have majored in Data Science, but have 0 experience in that domain to this date.

I'm definitely eyeballing an MBA in the near future to grind bigger positions easily.

You're going through one of the most difficult experiences a human can go through in life. Be easy on yourself for a little while and know that things will get better, and that you'll have a whole career ahead of you to solve challenges. I can only imagine the difficulty you're going through right now, but I know the strength you acquire from your life experiences will make you a better engineer (and more effective being, in general). Keep your drive strong and you'll make it through.

had to withdraw from Calc II....FML....at it again in the spring.

my professor wasn't the greatest though I do not blame solely that. I will say he did refuse to teach u-substitution.....I had to watch Professor Leonard videos to supplement the class...however I ended up falling behind as my professor for some reason wouldn't follow the book.

He used his own methods of solving integration.....hard to explain....anyway FML.

However the good news is I have an A in Physics I...and I can still take Statics, Materials Science, Physics of Matter (Physics II) all in the spring as they only require Calc II as a co-req....so I guess it hasn't really hindered my progress.

Man, I'm just so sad. I'm in my 3rd year. Worked hard to get a good gpa, 85%.
I do good in all of the classes hut when it comes to applying to co op internships.

    **** sucks.
I've applied at the start of the semester and I was looking forward to it but I still haven't found anything.

I've only gotten one interview and that was the very first one I applied to.

But they didn't call back. Nobody else did and this is for a co op (internship).

Can't imagine what the fuk it's gonna be like once I graduate with a useless chitty ass degree.

Classes aren't even hard for me. I get marks way above class average. But now, I can't stand it.

    Fuk engineering.

Are you applying with the same resume to all the positions? As annoying and as frustrating as it is, you need to tweak each resume you submit to the job posting. A lot of companies now use computers to filter resumes that don't include key words in the job description. Something to think about

Haven't been on the forum in a looong time but glad to see the Engineering thread is still alive.

Graduating in about 4 weeks with that sweet BS in Aerospace Engineering. Lucked out on an internship at a big company on the Space Coast and waiting for that job offer.

Came here to say success is inevitable as long as you keep pushing. Some classes suck, others are worse, but find that niche in your field you enjoy and exploit the hell out of it. (For me it's CFD and simulations).

    GL out there bro's

I love energy. The company I work for is the #1 power transmission firm in the US. I don't do any of the engineering (I focus on economic consulting primarily), but it's a great field to be in. You won't be unemployed in your lifetime and will make an easy six figures. I'll send you a PM.

Would you say difficulty increases, decreases, or is somewhat steady as you move into junior/senior level coursework?

Man it really depends. I will tell you if you're like me you'll get really, really good at Calc 3 and DE later compared to how you were in the actual class.

I think it really depends upon how you interested you are in each subject and how you do in them.
Physics 1/2 will cover a majority of engineering in some arbitrary way.
Strong calc 3 means you will be strong in a LOT of classes in ME but not necessarily ChE. If you want to be a really creative chode, be strong in linear algebra above all else like me

What to do guys I need advice ......? get a job and finish part-time or just finish my degree.

Just to preface this: I am a Computer Science student. With a little over then a semester left. I honestly so sick of school to the point where I do no work for my classes and my grades are dropping I have no motivation essentially.

I have already done two tech internships at pretty prestigious companies. Additionally, I am taking next semester off to intern at tech company the internships pays well $/60hr plus a stipend for housing + 1.5/hr for overtime >40 hours. post-tax for housing in Seattle. The summer I will also be interning at a Tech company the pay is $8000 - 9000/mo and and stipend for housing.

The thing is I am trying to Mimic the UWaterloo model of doing co-ops that way my resume is strong and get experience before entering the Industry fulltime. Also was just tired of being a broke college student and I use the money to help my family as well. The place I am interning next semester pays New Grads 215k -250k, so I really want a return offer. Additionally, I need to get it, because my parents are getting old my dad is 61 and my mom is around 55 so I don't want them to be working that much and I want them to focus on their health and happiness. Thus I was thinking of just joining the company fulltime and then eventually finish my degree part-time by taking classes at community college transferring the remaining credits. I talked to my advisor and I will be able to do it. Honestly, my last reason for this is in my school you need like 15 credits a semester to graduate on time, and most of those classes are STEM or computing courses and I don't think you can take 3 or more technical courses and master or even get a trivial understanding of the material, and these are courses, such as Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems, Compiler..etc that are going to be vital in career and make me a better programmer. Thus, I want just take one/two classes at time so I can really master the material. Just looking for advice and feedback for my plan, thanks.

    Thank brah

What are some career options out there for a chem eng fresh grad? The job market in my country looks bad right now. I'm in year 3 of 4, second upper honours. Doing my first internship while looking for another one for the summer

Good job going after an internship!!! That is the first thing you must do for a job now days. I would use LinkedIn to see what internships are out there. I would also go to your local AIChE meeting and see what companies are there. Any other conferences that are nearby are useful to see who all is there.

I have seen some really odd companies that hire ChE’s. I have friends who went to Apple after a few years at ExxonMobil. Guy I know went to Amazon. I think the best place to search is LinkedIn. But some of the companies post jobs that a ChE would work for since we know how to solve problems and think analytically. A ChE would work great at a lot of economic type jobs for instance.

In the end you just want to get a job to start to get experience being an actual ChE. If you see a company or job and don’t get it don’t worry about that too much. Just get some relevant ChE experience.
    RIP Dad

Thanks. I should get started on LinkedIn and I'll never admit this IRL but it's kind of intimidating because it seems like everyone is a better prospect than me.

My strategy so far is to not think of myself as a ChE and just go after whatever job/internship that fits my interest, but I agree that knowing professionals in the industries is definitely important. I'll check out AIChE. My ultimate career interests for now are commodity trading, and project management, both of which will require years of experience in lesser roles, so I just want to get started and be patient. Thanks again

Look dude I had a 4.0 and I only got 1 offer & that was with 4 sessions of co-oping/internship. It is what it is. Do your best. Prep for interviews. Get help with your resume. Start poking around for info about working during your internship. Go get it. Figure out who to ask questions to both here & real life. Learn during it.

I get that. I loved trading. But most of the ones I know started as a ChE at a plant. So it does not matter a damn but where you start at or what you start out doing. Just get experience.

Statics is easy in terms of the material, but what can make it challenging is the fact that it's supposed to be one of the classes that plays gatekeeper/weed out class, so teachers tend to grade extraordinarily harshly and also give difficult questions. I'm an EE, but I also took 8 ME courses. Statics was the easiest from a material POV, but it's the only one I got a B in because there were only 4 tests of 3 questions each, so 12 questions. I got like 3 points on one of the questions (which put me at a max of a 92) and even though I did well on the others, I had very little margin, so few points here or there added up and I finished with an 88 in the class.

There are a lot of factors that go into how well you do in a class and how easy it is to understand the material is but one of those. How good the book you're using is, how effective your study methods are, how good the professor is, how strict the professor is when grading, etc all also play a role, and arguably a more important one at that.

Quick question, I have found myself lately wishing for one more monitor. Reason being I would like to be able to have two applications open and one screen for references. For instance my assembly on one monitor, a part I may be updating within the assembly one another, and references on the 3rd.

Or Matlab on one, SW on another, and references on another.

Feedback? Am I being ridiculous? 3 just seems very "grandmas boyish" but I do think I could utilize it.
