When doing weights do you include the barbell?

This is a bit odd of a question but for those of you who are using the 20kg Olympic Barbell in your weights - do you include the barbell when writing your exercises down or telling someone?

I know a couple guys who are built really good and one of them squats 130kg < not much but he doesn't do squats that much I think and only adds on weight every few months. But I spoke to his mate and he said that he includes the 20kg barbell when people ask how much he squats/lifts

So in reality he only Squats 110kg with out the 20kg barbell put in and his mate said that most guys include the barbell in their weight when telling people/writing them down.

I've noticed a lot of you who are doing squats (example) and write down 200lb x3 or what ever they are doing are you all including the barbell or not?

I'm squatting 100kg atm (stalling) but in reality take out the 20kg barbell it's only 80kg

Just a little curious what others do when telling people/writing them down ...

Why would you not incorporate the bar into the overall weight of the lift. Let's think about this logically OP.

Weight you are moving counts. Count the barbell itself.

huh, that's.... kind of a legit question. I usually don't include the barbell, that way the weight I lifted for any given exercise is easily transferrable, for example from BB rows to machine rows or whatever. also cause I'm lazy to do math to know how much plates I have to put on the barbell. just think of it as a bonus 20kg that you can lift more, our dirty little secret

Always count the barbell, it will eliminate confusion if you can't remember of didn't wrote down how much weight you did in your last workout.

Look man, in every kind of powerlifting/weightlifting organisation they do count the weight of the bar too. You do squat the bar too, right?

You need to ask yourself a question, and that question is this: Does the bar weigh anything? Depending on the answer to that question, you will or will not weigh it. I'll leave the rest up to you.

OPie, barbells don't weigh anything, so there is no need to add their weight. What would you do, anyway? 45+45+0 = 90. No need to actually add the zero, mate.

oh, also, do the weights you use have holes in them? If so, you need to subtract that from the overall weight.
