- February from what is being said. KitKat offers literally nothing over Jellybean in terms of daily usage. KitKat main focus is for underpowered devices. Both the N5 and Moto X are not
- Big difference how? ****tier battery life? Poor visibility in the day vs the AMOLED in the Moto X? 1080p on a 5" screen isn't going to yield any difference when viewing Youtube/Netflix or reading a blog article vs the 720p on the X. 1080p on a smartphone is completely subjective.
- Again, subjective. The dual core on the X easily competes with the quad cores found in the N5, S4, and One. Number of cores do no make a better processor(Ask AMD). Android is at a point where it needs to loose the Delvik environment and go full ART or something else. It's not the hardware holding Android back, it's clearly the software.
- This is where the 2 devices break apart. Real world situations peg the X as a superior device in terms of battery life. A couple things attribute to this, smaller res screen, less cores to eating battery, Motorola optimizations.
I believe if you actually rely on your device and you want a smartphone that isn't going to break the bank and last the day under heavy usage and withstands drops, the X would be your phone. If you want a big flashy device that doesn't excel in really anything then by all means the N5 is you're device.
Keep in mind that Google now owns Motorola, and the ONLY reason the N5 has better specs than the X is because LG and Google have a contract and I'm sure as hell positive that Google isn't allowed to be making super phones until that contract is over. In the mean time you can fully expect proper support (software upgrades) to the X as you would the Nexus line.Last edited by l00t3d; 12-05-2013 at 12:39 PM. Reason: because reasons

I bought my first smart phone yesterday! I'm extremely tech savvy and when it comes to computers, but I never took the plunge. I'm so glad that I finally got one, though. So much awesome stuff to play with and I don't need my gosh system anymore. I didn't get a really expensive phone. I got an HTC Desire from Virgin Mobile.
Hope y'all are all doing well.

reviews put the nexus 5's battery equal to or better than the moto x
display has been said to be the most accurate display out of any android phone to date, most people are just used to amoled displays with their oversaturated colors, amoled only does better with blacks(no racist)
and with the 4.4.1 update that is rolling out as of today, the camera issues are minimal(UI still sucks ass, but the speed and autofocus has improved greatly to where neither is a problem)I'll have the milk steak, boiled over hard, and your finest jelly beans…raw

From where? Everything pegs the X as clearly the winner, citing the X typically has 4-8 hours MORE than the N5.
There's absolutely no way you're going have the same battery life as the X with twice the pixels, double the resolution, 2 more cores to power.

Also Moto X has 4.4 now. So now that's a moot point.Rep WI brahs on sight.

I don't know about this
If we had to estimate just how much more life, on average, the Moto X gets over the Nexus 5 in terms of juice, we'd say that the Moto X can get up to 4-8 hours more on a single charge than the Nexus 5.
At the low end, it might not sound like a huge difference, but those few hours between getting home from work and going to sleep is big - especially if you're going to spend those hours being out on the town.
If you're considering either phone and battery life is a dealbreaker for you, we'd highly recommend getting the Moto X.
Most comparison reviews I saw say something similar. And that isn't even with MotoX on KitKat, which should improve the battery life by a bit.

To the note 3 bros
amazon has a brand called caseology, or amazon search note 3 batteries.
For 19.99 you get an extra 2 external batteries AND a battery charger. So typically I have one battery in my phone, 1 fully charged I carry with me and then typically one on the external battery charger.
The batteries are the same exact size and last just as long.Modified PHAT master race

With all these above, I dont see any thing that convinces me that Moto X is better than Nexus 5. I based it purely on specs, with similar OS then what do you think is better?
720 vs 1080 on a 4.7 and 5 inch screen may not be obvious? The difference in PPIs makes it more obvious. Look at it, your eyes wont lie to you.
CPU - its hard to be subjective if you are comparing 1.7 Dual and 2.3 Quad - They both have the snapdragon chipset and Krait CPU but Moto is clocked lower. No question which one is better here if you want to maximize your phone's capabilities.
Battery doesnt distinguish them apart as N5 got Kitkat which got better power management and Moto got smaller screen which consume less power so for me they got the same battery status. They both are not good.
Google ownership of Motorolla doesnt mean anything about this comparison. Specs-wise, N5 is superior than Moto X.
That's my take on it. If I were to choose, I'll take N5, because I dont want a phone that just works, I dont like its screen (as there are better ones out there), I want something I can push harder.
I got your point, that Moto specs can work, but I dont wanna buy something that's already 1 gen old when I get it. If Moto X is a lot cheaper than N5 then fine, for practical reason, I'll take it over N5.
BTW, I dont have a N5, I have the old Note 2, its still so much powerful but honestly, the screen looks obviously inferior comparing it to Note 3 or S4. Its that obvious. 720 vs 1080 and difference in PPI.Last edited by jinda628; 12-06-2013 at 07:36 AM.

in any case, i enjoy the developer/google software support the nexus line offers. i enjoy having the latest software on a well built phone with top-grade hardware for a reasonable price. i enjoy having the flexibility garnered by not signing a 2 year contract. these are some (absolutely not all) of the reasons i bought a nexus phone. i am not saying the moto x is a bad phone, i actually really like it. i just think your comments eluded to the X being clearly superior, and i disagree. different strokes....

i tend to trust anandtech with their reviews, they are pretty thorough, most if not all their reviewers are engineers, and i'd take their results over someone from the verge or engadget any day

So I went to TMO to add another line for my mom and get the sim. I have 2 lines under my name right now and I'm paying $155 all unlimited before tax. I will have to add $30 monthly if I have to a 3rd line on my old plan.
They dont offer my plan anymore so the rep offered upgrading my new plan if I will upgrade my main line which got the Note 2. He offered me a new plan with 3 lines with the same unlimited everything (no throttling) for $125/mo. All I have to do is put a $100 down on Note 3 and will have to pay $25/mo for new phone installment. So this plan will be $150/mo with 3 lines. This kind of bailed me out of my 2 yrs contract on my Note 2. Yes, I was still in the "old contract" thing on my Note 2.
I gave in to it I got a new Note 3 and kept my Note 2 and doesnt have to pay the pre-termination fee for not completing the old contract. The new plan also got Jump already.
So now, to TMO Note 3 users, what ROMs are you using? Is there still a problem with Knox and eFuse?Steam - jinda28

You got stock and unrooted?
I think rooting doesn't trigger knox counter (still unsure though) but only flashing custom recovery and custom ROM.
I dont know much about it yet but based from what I read, Knox counter is 0x0 by default. That it goes to 0x1 after flashing ROMs and its supposed to void the warranty. And so far, there is no way to bring it back to 0x0.
I just need to root so I can use some of the apps that need root access but still got to be sure that I wont trigger the counter. I kind of like the stock ROM so far and I can always use any launcher to hide the TW look.

I'm on Sprint and I have heavily thought about rooting my phone but after a month I have no complaints about TouchWiz for the stock rom so I have not gone ahead and have done it the only thing I use my phone for are the basic social apps in a few games here and there and some of the calculators for classmaybe in a few months or year down the road when I'm tired of this layout I'll go ahead and rooted in everything but so far I have found no issues in the stock no 3 it is still lightning fast and does everything I need my phone to do with ease.Modified PHAT master race

also if my above grammar was bad that was me testing out google voice text for the first time to an actual length I'm using it now to have used it for a little text messages here and there but this is the first time I tested it out on an actual paragraph from what I've gathered it messes up a few words here and there throughout something this large
