Forgot about the USB Type C Connector that the LG Nexus 5X uses. Christmas portable battery charger is now only going to charge the bluetooth speaker I just got.

I guess for $200 it's "decent" but I don't see the similarities.
- Snapdragon 615 vs 808
- 5.5 inch screen vs 5.2 inch screen
- Micro SD slot vs No Micro SD slot
Anyways, my point is that they aren't similar and thus you should not expect a similar experience. About the only specs they share are 2 GB of Ram and 16 GB of storage. Personally, I wouldn't buy it just for those two specs alone. Not to mention that for around the same price, you could have purchased a Nexus 6 last month.

My greatest, deepest apologies for wording it that way.
They are both mid-range phones but the specs for the Honor 5X seem to quite impressive for a $200 phone: http://phandroid.com/2016/01/06/hono...sus-zenfone-2/ I have the Nexus 5X but will be watching others experiences with the Honor 5X for the future.

Lol, just didn't want you thinking your experience would be the same. I'm sure most of us know someone who tried a cheap Android phone, had issues with it, then switched to iOS while complaining that Android sucked.
I agree about it having decent specs for $200. I think it's great how several manufacturers now make "budget" phones with good specs. In fact, I've had one of these "budget" phones (ZenFone 2) since summer and my experience with it has been great.

I currently have a Ruby Red Samsung S5 Active with a Pelican case. I love this phone and I only use it with WiFi because a year back I moved to NY and still can't find a job so the phone is still in the black list. I will be finding out what creditor has my balance to hopefully pay it off soon. The phone has starter to get slow so I'm planning on having it reset soon.

The Nexus 7 has a good deal more functionality with rooting and custom roms. Even the original 2012 Nexus 7 I used to have had its functionality revived after almost 3 years with new Android updates and roms.
But if you're simply looking at something that will handle PDF's, Kindle Fire might be the way to go if it's cheaper.Stop it. Get some help.

What's a good app for movie streaming to chromecast? I bought my boys a chromecast for Xmas. Showbox (or something like tgat) used to be good, but it stupid now. Even a site would be ok.

If you're looking for something to read PDF's I would look for a tablet with a very high resolution. A higher resolution will make the text much sharper, making it easier on your eyes.
As for the $50 kindle fire vs Nexus 7. Depending on the model of the Nexus 7 (some have different resolutions), I would go for the Nexus 7.
Nexus 7 2012: 800 x 1280 pixels (~216 ppi pixel density)
Nexus 7 2013: 1200 x 1920 pixels (~323 ppi pixel density)
Kindle Fire ($50): 1024 x 600 pixels (~171 ppi pixel density)
I went with the Nexus 10 for reading my ebooks since the resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels (~299 ppi pixel density) with a 10.1" screen.
